So I got the rucksack from one of your other videos, and I gotta say, I love it. Kinda wish it was bigger, as I am a broad, tall, and, well, fat guy, however the material, quality, and just look is awesome. Well worth the money imo. So thanks for letting me know about it!

Because of their jetpack oriented combat, openly unapologetic dirty fighting and uncontained goblin energy. Also Sevatar surfed _a fucking Starfighter_ and dove through a window into a ship's bridge from said Starfighter. Like come on, not even the Khan did that kind of shit.

Warhammer 40k fanbase can be devided into 2
1. Night Lords fans
2. Those who didnt read ADB's Night Lords trilogy
I read ADB's Night Lords trilogy. Great Books with interesting characters. And I still fucking hate the Night Lords. A character that is interesting and engaging doesn't make them any less despicable when they get off on torturing people to death. (Yes, I include Talos in that category. "Lesson" my ass.)
I'm an asshole and I love them, adb wrote them and it reminded me of me and my friends sometimes. Not the genocide and murder, but the dark humor and rough housing. Also when we played online games we always tried to find an edge over our opponents even if it meant getting the ban hammer.
@@thomascullinan6319your right,.they are despicable, which makes them awesome (in a fictional setting ofc) they are in a grimdark setting and revel in that. I still like the Word Bearers more (except Erebus because f that guy)
Great books. Fuck the Night Lords.
@@justicar5 The World Eaters revel in the grimdark setting. Hell, a lot of chapters do, even some of the loyalist ones. The Night Lords are just flat-out fucking gross and there is absolutely nothing awesome about them.
Night Lords are interesting because they kind of really suck at the actual job of being a space marine. Like, the way they operate, why even bother making most of them supersoldiers?
Except Sevatar; It's almost like 95% of the legion's actual martial skill got crammed into him and him alone.
Definitely a combination of Night Lord battle doctrine, Gendor Skraivok deliberately recruiting kids who have no business becoming Space Marines, and Konrad inability/unwillingness to fix things.
If Night Lords were fighting the kind of battles the others legions were doing at the time (massive wars against mighty empires), I feel a lot of those inferior Marines would have been filtered out. You don't need to be superhuman in order to brutalize a bunch of terrified human civvies, but it definitely helps.
Isn’t it said that most night lords are just criminals there’s barely any that are actual soldiers
I disagree the night lords had a role to play, they make amazing enforcers one of the only legions that made worlds comply from just the word they were entering the system
@@UndaLupus I would give up if I saw any legion of space marines heading to my planet
@@Mkrause762yes but plenty of planets were willing to fight the legions. No world wanted to fight the Night Lords. Their name alone would make worlds surrender.

I'm bad and I love it.
Hey at least they’re honest unlike some other legions.🐱
Other legions claim they have virtues like courage, honor, strength, and dignity. The Night Lords have integrity and that’s all they need.
Ah yes, the Night Lords fan. You often smell this creature before you see him. The faint scent of ammonia and Hot Topic is unmistakable
My wife, who I mention in my comment, DID work at Hot Topic on Saturdays just for the employee discount. She supervised a hospital lab for her day job.
.... as a nightlords fangirl I cannot deny this hot topic accusation
Night Lords fans are the Cleveland Browns fans of 40K.
Just pictured Bricky with guy-liner
I like the Night Lords for the same reason I like Frank Horrigan. In an era where a lot of popular IPs are obsessed with trying to make sympathetic villains, it's cathartic to see unrepentant war criminals instead.
Also, like you said, they don't fight like space marines and, funny enough, despite being the most brutal chapter, they probably killed the least. Instead of warring with entire planets, they scare planets into compliance.
In other words, them being evil doesn't unskin your wife and kids.
Night Lords is proof of how propaganda works when it's done well, and humanises the subject, even when it's about people who flay skin and torture people
Eldar are what happens when that propaganda sucks
One of my favorite things about the night lords is that they have an ego about themselves or at least some weird sense of honor. Like in First Heretic when they see the Gal Vorbak for the first time they're openly revulsed by them. Like "we play at being monsters, but you sick freaks actually became monsters"
Last time I was this early, Magnus hadn't done anything wrong yet.
And both eyes
That could be anywhen
I like Magnus, but he did EVERYTHING wrong.
That could be any point in time.
I appreciate night lords for being one the most interesting traitor legions, they were in a way the first traitor by destroying nostramo. As well as the fact that there the only legion with a primarch showing a mental illness/ mental decay
Man, you saying that Konrad is the only primarch mentally ill?
Like, Mortarion, Perturabo, Angron, Lorgar, Fulgrim, Lion and Ferrus?
I mean it's easier to name the primarchs that don't have glaring mental issues tbh.
For me its for two reasons.
1. They're aesthetically awesome with the vamperic/slavic look, along with the lightning accents.
2. They are just fucked up in so many ways, particularly in being the 'masters of fear' yet are probably the biggest cowards of all space marines. Possibly of any faction even (like the Drukari).
Basically I love them for being baby bitch edge lords. Theyre a great Grimdark faction for such heinous crimes but have real character in sadness and wanted honour.
Night lord: BAAGH fear me mortal-
Gets sprayed by water
Night lord: sssssshhhhh
I like how human they really are. You can see glimpses of how they could’ve been heroes with talos and sevatar. Also despite being cowards they produce some of the best fighters out there
My wife was asked by a GW rep over from Nottingham for DragonCon, "Why Night Lords?"
She was towering over him, 5'10 before the six inch heels, spilling out of a black leather corset. She wanted a VIII Legion t-shirt and they were out.
She leaned over, stared him in the eye, and sneered, "Because Konrad Curze was an unappreciated genius who did nothing wrong."
The poor guy nearly passed out.
This dude Won life I’m convinced

Shut up or make up a story less pathetic
I turned traitor after reading the Night Lords book and some of the Night Lords HH short stories. It's also refreshing having a Traitor Legion that is not totally turbo fucked by Chaos corruption, and have some understandable (albeit not entirely agreeable) motives for turning traitor
In the words of Jeff Foxworthy "you can only make fun of them if you are one, and I are one"
In my dirt-brain opinion, it's the characters and how well they've been written that draw the fans in to the Night Lords. And it's ironic in that those characters are often telling them, "We kinda suck.' But about two seconds after a self-hatred fueled soliloquy they prove your underdog point and do something badass and you just can't help but *like* them.
Absolutely digged the video, as always, and keep up the great work.
P.S. Your primach series is tier 1 stuff. I've shown your Dorn video as almost an essay on character study to a few different people

If you guys haven't listened to the Night Lords omnibus audiobook version read by Andrew Wincott you should give it a listen. He gets the slavic accent of our beloved skitzo batboys just right. Oh and Talos' speech in the third book *chefs kiss*. Also apart from the Tenth company boys I love Kheron Ophion. That idea of the single brave soul in a legion of cowards hits home with me

I can say...because they are oddly one of the most human space marine legions. We can thank the trilogy really. It does give us a legion where we have a tragic nature to it. As we can look on Konrad, who just needed a hug.
The other legions needed daemons and gods to turn them evil, Night Lords just are. They were practically raised to be so. Yet, they are self-aware of it. They do not lie to themselves of their nature. And again, because of the trilogy, we can see that they are more than this. Be it Talos, Uzas, or even the warsage...there is simply humanity still within them that can be seen through the flayed skin and general horror, they are just large children that want to be loved by their mentally ill father.
It was heartbreaking when emperor said to kurze that he did farsee things in the future, but always CHOSED the bad paths... Kurze always saw only bad future for him and thought it was inevitable future to him..
I was moved by Talos's conviction, and impressed by both their effectiveness during The Crusade, as well as their underdog status as a traitor legion. For this reason I play them on the tabletop.
Edit: The Night Lords Chaos Lord in the Morvenn Vahl book is named Kol Rakul, The Death of Saints. His name in Nostroman likely means Cold and Cruel. It is also worth noting that titles among The Night Lords are either self-imposed, or ironic, so either Kol gave himself the title as he has some history with The Argent Shroud, or he has ran from every battle against The Sororitas lol.
Personally I feel like part of the reason Night Lords are liked so much is because I feel like either consciousnessly or subconsciously a lot of people realize that if Space Marines ever became real they would most likely be like the Night Lords.
Like just think, if you took a child that was forced through barbaric trials by combat that kill 99% of grown men and gave them literal superhuman abilities and conditioning to where they basically only fully understand combat you're likely not gonna get the philosophical Blood Angels, reasonable Ultramarines, or caring Salamanders, you're probably gonna end up with the opportunistic, violence-driven, and power-obsessed Night Lords.
AVE DOMINUS NOX!

Arthur roasts the night lords fan base for 10 or so minutes
I'm not a huge night lords fan per say, but they do interest me.
Blood Angels were my first army so there is bias in what i say. But the thing I came to love about the Blood Angels is how they choose to rise above their lesser instincts. To choose to struggle against the temptation to give in, and to win through force of will.
The night lords interest me as they feel like an opposite, where they blood angels are optimistic the night lords are pessimistic.
How Konrad and Sanguinis viewed their foresight shows is most succinctly.
Their contrast is far more interesting to me compared to say the world eaters / angron and the blood angels / Sanguinis.
Neat point. I do hate that it seems that Blood Angels often get used as “generic dickhead marines who get cacked” in a lot of non Blood Angel stories since they are an interesting chapter to me.
i’m not a huge fan of the night lords. but i am a huge fan of arthur talking about the night lords
Heh, ADB made people like Night Lords with his Omnibus) Talos was a baddie but with goals, and every other significant character in this series was nicely presented. I really like second book, when Talos decides to hop on former NL's battleship and Huron and his warband portrayed as absolute chaos degenerates (shit and blood everywhere, fully corrupted navigator). Even Exalted was not a totally chaos depraved demon-monster until the very end
“What happened during your upbringing to cause you to turn out this way?”
“Nothing, I’m just evil.” - Nightlords probably
They have the coolest color scheme in the setting, don't @ me + I find them relatable in some personal aspects(not the edgy murder and torture is good shit) + being the thing that goes bump in the night is cool as fuck.
I always had the idea of a Nightlord Warband going on killing sprees on Imperial Worlds as the idea of mercy kills. They slaughter the people because they know the dream the Emperor had is dead and the people are the reason for it. They wish not the people to live in Imperium as the dream is dead.
I see my beloved dark angles “abandoning” an “important battle” to slay the *redacted* and the only copium I’m huffing is “for the Emperor”
4:30 Listen man I look at The Wrath cannibalize the remnants of a battlefield, using the corpse bits for all kinds of things, and I go "Hell yeah I love these living blenders."
"The Night Lords committed a war crime!"
"Lol. Yep."
"Some blackened pride still burns inside this bloody shell of treason." Great vid! Subbed!
Didn’t use the word “Scrungly” one time. 0/10 my Night Lord immersion is ruined.
Answer before watching:
1. Primarch was right about everything, and has an end to his story.
2. God-tier writing on the omnibus, you can't dislike the Night Lords after reading it.
3. By far most humane and ethical Legion (during crusade)
4. Insanely high non chaos/non corrupted (aside from raptors) possibly reunited warband/legion under Decimus if it ever came to fruition.
5. Sevatar
Kurze got the short end of the stick on nearly everything. But he's also nuts

The Night Lords Trilogy novels, them being prolly the best Chaos books. That's all.
The same reason kids like Apple Jacks, we just do. The excellent trilogy by ADB definitely helps too. The bitchin spooky aesthetic, unusual method of warfare, they’re just pimpin.

-A fan of World Eaters and Iron Warriors 😘
While I don’t like Night Lords in the slightest and my immediate thought to see Night Lords is "ew Night Lords," I have a friend who absolutely loves them for the reasons that they suck.
He loves that they're a bunch cowardly assholes who would rather run away from a fight with the Imperial Guard to go butcher that orphanage over there. The fact that they are so anathema to what it means to be a Space Marine is what makes them interesting. And I can get that. Won't change my opinion of them but I understand.
I like them because they were the only legion to both have their primarch hate them and have that feeling be mutual. They were never shown any love, respect, decency, or honor and now they are incapable of showing those things.
Nightlords do the shit that chaos likes while also hating chaos. They have no real plans on making things better, they want these huge ideas to come to pass, they are both violent and depraved, but never on behalf of someone else. Nightlords exists purely for nightlords and and really don't care what people say about how underhanded and evil they are.
They know exactly what they are and don't bother to lie to themselves about it, and characters like that are decently uncommon in the universe where every single faction has some sob story to justify using lobotomized slave cyborgs as a punch clock
"Time to hide", double meaning? If the Night Lords are around theres sure some flaying coming around.
Let me take a crack at it as an outsider. Konrad Curze, from the summary videos I remember addressing him, seems like Batman if the joker's, "We're not so different." motif was right. And now there are a bunch of 'mini' corrupted batmen running around the galaxy doing "hot girl shit".
get out of my walls dude. only i am allowed in there.
To all night lords fan that also like anime, are you guys also fans of Overlord?

They’re one of my favourite traitors, they seem unapologetically evil - yes - but not the same as Chaos. The don’t necessarily revel in it, but they just simply don’t care. Plus they look badass and have a unique social structure

When Savitar was being pressured by his friends to take revenge for the Nighthaunter's wounding, he asked politely if they would change their minds and run away instead of dying pointlessly.
They politely disagreed, and so he spaced them. On the spot, with no warning. The one guy who noticed and got away in time, Savitar let live because that's behavior he personally finds intelligent and should be rewarded.

" We have come for you"
Night Lords fans aren't weird or counter culture. Night Lords have a cool asthetic, their popular well written novel series depicts them as tragic anti heros, being horric scum of the galaxy in a hyperbole grimdark setting makes them pretty average on the "shocking brutality" scale. You aren't super edgelord outliers for thinking a popular legion with common cool tropes is cool.
That's just my 2 cents anyways, you guys do you.
to me they are so different compared to the other legions. All of them are an archetype of military specialization and culture like the ultramarines are the martial space romans, the death guard are space zombies, iron warriors are greek siege masters, dark angels medieval monstrer hunters/secret society etc. The night lords by comparassion are so... normal, they are no forge masters, they are not artists, they are not warriors, yes they are the scum of nostramo and terra but when you put them next to the offspring of europeran nobility of the emperor's children or the free spirit riders of the white scars they kind of look like an average joe. Plus they are some of the most distinctive legion of all when comes to aestethics.
And then you have THE two great night lords: Talos and Sevatar. Talos lives through the worst era of the legion and still holds to its ideals, he tries to keep his company, his family together for the same the reasons he keeps fighting the empirium, he doesn't have anything else. They don't have a homeworld, they don't have a primarch, they barely have people, and yet they are significantly loyal to each other more than any other traitor legion. Because tghey only have each other. Who wouldn't empathise with someone trying to hold to what is dear for them?
And Sevatar shows us a beginining of the end for the legion, when you see his way through the crusade and the heresy you see how he realised slowly what they are doing is wrong, not the skinning people alive part, but doing it for the fun of it, leting be guided by a father that doesn't care for them and is going nuts. He sees the hipocresy of Curze when he insisted there was no other way to apeace nostramo, yet he calls bullshit on it, that dialogue between the two really feels like a son finally been mature and brave enough to call on his father's defects and confronting it. The final step on Sev's arch is when a child shows him kindness and humannity and when she is crippled he enacts swift nostraman justice upon the responsible, even though the kid was his enemy.
They are a deeply flawed legion with deeply flawed characters, and those are the best ones. Ave Dominus Nox.
As a nightlord fan i have to say that i personally love them because when getting into the hobby non of the factions really did it for me(this is before votann) and i especially found space marines kinda boring (this is before i found out about chapter) and well i was recommended the nl omnibus and immediately fell in love with these truly horrible villains who are so far removed from humanity that the comeback to being human.
They are the scum of nostomo and irredeemable but lightening claws and raptors are such a look (also pls gw give me back 3rd edition raptor asthetics i know they are literally older then i am but pls they go hard)
As a night lords' fan, I'm glad I don't interact with the fanbase, cause what the hell is that lol?!
I like that compared to basically everyone else they are the most pathetic out of all the demigods that even when they had a 4-1 advantage they lost to the angels sanguin who are one of the weaker chapters out there . So it’s fun to see them flail around like big boys only to run into a Mack truck going straight towards them at 80 mph then as they are in the ground still twitching and groaning in pain they try to act like the big dog again.

@@chainsawsubtlety9828 No, in the sense that every fan of 40k has embraced being edgy at least a bit.
