    I still find it bizarre that people who obviously love and respect and are in awe of nature and animals, feel the need to hunt them down and kill them? Using a sophisticated weapon against an animal eating in its own habitat seems a bit perverse and disrespectful! Use a camera!!

      Maybe because Animals are food? Think about the thousands of years people have lived and hunted in Alaska, yet these animals arent extinct. What does that tell you 🤔

    If you're a self proclaimed hunter/woodsman who's trapped in the Alaskan wilderness with nothing but your rifle, and you're worried about how long your oat bars are going to last before you starve to death, then you're not a woodsman. You're just a trophy hunter who's useless without a guide. You did it wrong right from the start. Stay home. You're out of your league.

      Not so sure about that. in the next video he explains about not being able to make a fire and how he considered hunting but didn't want to eat raw meat. I also think that having meat around in such a busy bear habitat is asking for trouble. In the end he was too far gone to use his gun to signal for help, but that would have been another possibility. So there were a number of reasons not to use it for hunting even if you were the best hunter/woodsman in the world

    Hunting and fishing was a need for tens of thousands of years for the hunter-gathers, but that all changed with learning how to properly can goods, packaged meats, etc. It's no longer necessary. I used to hunt and harvest elk, muleys, wolves, etc. but I never felt good about killing animals so I quit (but I still catch and eat fish. Guess that makes me a hypocrite...so sue me). Shooting a Grizzly is just a total bullshit machismo thing that no longer has any meaning. How about instead of a large bore rifle, you try some hand to paw combat with a bear? Then I'd be impressed. Shooting one with a 7mm or a .338 Win Mag doesn't impress me one bit. You can pull a trigger...big fucking deal. I'm also sorry about your friend though. That really sucks.

    This is not a survival story, rather a miracle. He is very lucky to have been found.
    Staying put, finding shelter in a tree is the most stupid thing to do under such circumstances.
    He didnt even try to find a better shelter/ path out.
    He might as well have put a bucket over his head, assuming that if i cant see it, its not really happening.

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar 3 роки тому +6

      Staying put is the quickest way to be found, actually. Wandering off in an area you're not familiar with increases the risk of not being found because no one will know where to look. If people expect you to be in a certain area and you're not there, then it becomes a guessing game and search & rescue have to spend more time and resources to search a broader area. Stay put, BUILD a shelter, find food, prepare a signal, be patient. Survival basics for such a circumstance, according to my experience. However, dude has a rifle while trapped in the Alaskan wilderness that's loaded with wild game and fish, and he's worried about his oat bars lasting. He's definitely useless without a guide. This is what happens when suburbia meets the wild.
