I have used Simple Green (eco friendly) for the past 20 years for all sorts of cleaning, but especially I have used it with micro fiber rag on my personal 9 year old F150 that is all leather interior and followed up after dry with a leather conditioner and it has remained what I consider a 8 out of 10 results and no damage has been made using these 3 steps! Thanks Scott for another great subject as usual!
0:05 to 3:54 if you want a quick before/after for how it dulled the leather's surface. A sealer or something like griots 3-in-1 might shine it back up, but yeah, keep in mind it's knocking down the surface quite a bit through abraision a'la wet-sanding.
Thank you for explanation of the plastic coating my sister gave me her old Honda pilot 06 she never cleaned the leather so this spring I’m going tackle it nice to have little knowledge of the interior leather.
A decent way to think about the eraser is using it, in a sense, as you would claybar/nanoskin. If the paint isn't contaminated, avoid claying. If the leather isn't caked with grime, don't erase. But for those off chance cars with hammered leather, these erasers are a great trick.
Some will think I'm crazy but I use Tide and a paint brush or horse hair brush to deep clean my car's leather anually and Magic Eraser and Chemical Guys brand to detail. For weekly cleaning/maintenance I use a soft damp cloth and either Surf City brand or Chemical Guys brand cleaner/conditioner. Unlike cleaners made soecifically for leather that don't deep clean because they're too mild, Tide and warm water gets the dirt, oil and grime out. But you MUST remove any residual Tide with leather cleaner and follow up with conditioner. It's kind of like using clay bar for your paint.
IMO the best leather cleaner is Quick and Brite paste used full strength. The dirt on a white couch came off instantly - same for my cars. Leaves leather supple. Just rub it on with a cloth and wait a minute or two and wipe off. Never seen anything like it after trying everything to clean a white leather sofa.
I used magic eraser after using a color lock brush and leather cleaner to then take out old SMALL spot stains that didn't come out of beige old leather (gently, worked amazing on my old car) then treated with a nourishing leather cream. I wouldn't recommend on large areas but it's great for small stubborn stains.
I like to feed my Leather with Mink oil. I use a product from the shoe snob shop called mink oil renovator, not cheap, but it smells nice, plus if it is good on £500 pairs of shoes it is fine for me.
Yes you are right Scott use it once, then keep maintaining the seats with either Lexol Wipes or Meguiars Rich Leather Wipes or what ever you use., Magic Eraser is not something you use everytime you clean your seats. I used Magic Eraser on My Infiniti FX45 that has Weat Color interior it's like a very light beige Color. They came out Factory New. I used 1 part Degreaser "Grease Lightning" Sold at Home Depot, to 5 parts water and a Magic eraser with light pressure, on my Wheat Color door panels and Leather Seats. Came out Factory New.
For me SuperClean 4/1 spraying on, allow to dwell for 15-20 seconds and simply mopping off with a microfiber has been a very effective way to clean VERY neglected leather. Haven't used the Magic Eraser in quite awhile on leather. :)
My most aggressive approach is a Dobie sponge with Meg's Super Degreaser. Not too creative I know, and sounds a bit harsh with the SD, but with heavy oils or grease it really gets at it in a hurry. The SD is surprisingly safe all in all, but I would watch the runs (as with any cleaner, you can see in this vid), they can be hard to blend out if left too long. The Dobie sponge is the real secret here, great on everything a magic eraser might do, but fairly less risky and aggressive.
I have 20 years detailing experience, and this video is wrong on so many points. 1) You never and I mean never spray anything directly onto leather seats. 2) A magic eraser can be made soft by soaking. 3) You do not apply excessive pressure a light pressure is all that is needed. 4) You don't have to use harsh chemicals with a magic eraser, you can soak it in plain water, even though I like a mix of water and vinegar. Then you go over it when cleaned with a protector product. A magic eraser is not meant for continual use. Maybe once a year. Go back and do these steps and you will probably want to redo this video.
all my car friends say DO NOT use a magic eraser. Yes its abrassive....but its not sand paper. Its abrassive only enough to take out the oil, dirt and grime. I used it once every two months....i literally ONLY use water, and it works wonders. Leather for the last 2 years has still looked like i just bought the car. I dont like that bullshit i hear to not use one....because to everyones theory....my leather should be gone and faded by now
Is there a way to repair the coating on leather? I used my finger nail to remove some grit off of my steering wheel, now I've noticed there is a small area where the finish has been worn off.
well it would not be a good pick for headlight restoration because if headlight is really bad you probably need to start out with 800 grit first and work your way up to 3000 grit before polishing
I bought my car used and i have white patches on my black leather. Im thinking some dumbass sprayed armor all straight on the leather. Any suggestions on how to remove it?
Scott!!! Love your video’s!!! I’ve been detailing for about 9 months now, you’re video’s have been super helpful from time to time, can I get your number to talk to you more about detailing and waxes?
I have noticed some significant denim dye transfer on my car leather. Can I use the colourlock brush (black bristles) on my white leather seats? I'm located in Dallas are you able to safely remove the dye transfer?
What leather post-cleaning liquid ceramic protectant do you recommend? A great one is "QP On 3.0" however almost no one sells it and it's $80 per can. :(
I Accidentally used a magic eraser on my bmw steering wheel without knowing it is an abrasive, what do I have to use to reseal the leather now that I guess i stripped away the protective layer? the steering wheel is a matte finish so I dont want a sealer that makes it shiny. Thank you
Magic Eraser is abrasive and the brush is not. I have this brush : very safe. But they sell it only one size ; i find it a little bit too small so it's no not easy to handle, specially when it got wet by the cleaner.
You shouldn't ever use a dry magic eraser!!! For cleaning in the car you need to just leave that magic eraser in some water it will soften it up even more than just wetting it. So when you go to use it squeeze it out & spray cleaner on the magic eraser & gently wipe. Ppl never ever use it dry & that's for cleaning anything!! There's also no need to put that pressure on it or go back n forth with it like that either! Yes it'll dull the leather bc you just took the protective top coat off by using it dry! This was a very incorrect way of showing ppl how to do this!!
There is a guy who owns a detail shop by us and swears by using #0000 fine steal wool with Sprayway Glass cleaner is absolutely phenomenal cleaning interior vinyl - leather seats. Your thoughts on this?
hmmm...steal wool even at #0000 will shed its fibers all over the place!..no thank you:)...but hey if he likes it and his clients keep calling him back, what can i say:)
thats not true..we know your statement to be false because its a government requirement for a company to class a product as abrasive when the grit is lower than 6000...so the magic eraser is probably more in line with 6000 grit...but i agree that a magic eraser can damage the leather if used wrong for sure..another thing to consider is when using the magic eraser and more PRESSURE is applied the abrasive number can be lower than 5000 grit because of the pressure being applied but they don't have to classify it as an abrasive because on its own it meets the government requirement unless a lot of pressure is applied...kind of crazy how these laws work...much love Toni:)
I was removing finger paint and this leather seat is coated leather, the coating is not dyed, so yes I was pulling up dirt because the seats hadn't been cleaned in years

Leather is supposed to have a matte finish, not be shiny. That's how it comes from the factory. look it up
Thank you for explanation of the plastic coating my sister gave me her old Honda pilot 06 she never cleaned the leather so this spring I’m going tackle it nice to have little knowledge of the interior leather.

ok G great comparison

Once again, full detailed explanations. Thank you
Used griots 3 in 1 leather cleaner conditioner and it left white residue all over my leather. The brush is always best.

Howard Stern is that you???🤪🤪🤪
Nah, it’s ray romano
@@imonlyso-so-okie901 It's Ray Stern actually. Or Howard Romano
I like to feed my Leather with Mink oil. I use a product from the shoe snob shop called mink oil renovator, not cheap, but it smells nice, plus if it is good on £500 pairs of shoes it is fine for me.
Thanks for this.. other videos were not telling me what damage can happen and how.
Yes you are right Scott use it once, then keep maintaining the seats with either Lexol Wipes or Meguiars Rich Leather Wipes or what ever you use.,

Scott you need to start adding links! On were to buy the products / equipment you show case
Twice a month or once every two weeks.🤔🤔🤔
Yeah right !!!
always know i can trust i am getting trustful info on this channel. appreciate it
Why did you choose to use the Magic Eraser dry instead of wet? The directions are pretty clear on that.
well lets be honest...the instructions don't say to use it on leather:)
Good one Scott. LOL
Dallas, you need to stop promoting dry or semi dry application of any product.
He spayed it thats wet
Best video I have seen no bs
For me SuperClean 4/1 spraying on, allow to dwell for 15-20 seconds and simply mopping off with a microfiber has been a very effective way to clean VERY neglected leather. Haven't used the Magic Eraser in quite awhile on leather. :)
i agree!..deadly combo:)...i mean that in a good way..lol

thanks...cool tip:)
No problem, great vids by the way, one of my favorite detailing channels as soon as I checked you out!
Hi Scott
Love the videos
Very informative
Could you show how you treat scuff marks on interior plastic panels?
Much appreciated!
d tasca no idea. try some polishing compound? just throwing that out there
Wonder how it does on glass for pulling off bugs ect. As opposed to 0000 steel wool or clay
Probably pretty good.
Better
Works great
I've used it and seen it used to Super clean glass...inside and out. Works great

How to get rid of gum from leather seat? My son put it on and I don't know how to take it off?
What about using the tackiness of claybar to pull grime uo out of deep grain?
Since its equivalent to 3k grit sandpaper . Has anyone used to do a headlight restoration
well it would not be a good pick for headlight restoration because if headlight is really bad you probably need to start out with 800 grit first and work your way up to 3000 grit before polishing
What would you use to recover a seat that had been damaged or was dry and didn't have a plastic coating on the leather?
should you use a conditioner after a cleaning?
Good Info on textured leather vs.smooth leather
2:38 dirt? Not dye? :)
So how do you get the sheen back
Is it removing dye?
Thanks for the tip. I have to do my car and wife's car soon.
What pat of N.Y. are you from? (Never heard a Texan sound like Ray Romano)
Do your wife’s car first
I think Magic Eraser is fine against denim stains!
does it get sun tan lotion off black enteriors?
If it has a plastic coating it is not leather, it is bonded 'leather', an inferior product to real top grain or split grande leather.
well welcome to 90% of all car leather...even in a high end Bentley!
Is mine bonded leather? It's red and was called "Semi aniline" leather.
I bought my car used and i have white patches on my black leather. Im thinking some dumbass sprayed armor all straight on the leather. Any suggestions on how to remove it?
Aren’t you supposed to soak the eraser in water?
An option to avoid abrasion is to soak the eraser in water .
how would that do it.
Scott!!! Love your video’s!!! I’ve been detailing for about 9 months now, you’re video’s have been super helpful from time to time, can I get your number to talk to you more about detailing and waxes?
Queens or Brooklyn? Me Yonkers. Let's go Mets! Good videos!
I have noticed some significant denim dye transfer on my car leather. Can I use the colourlock brush (black bristles) on my white leather seats? I'm located in Dallas are you able to safely remove the dye transfer?
Txfamily5 diluted woolite
used on my 14yo steering wheel on e90, now i have to replace leather because it's flaking
What brush are you using?
Holy crap I thought I was watching everybody loves Raymond. He sounds exactly like him lol.
What leather post-cleaning liquid ceramic protectant do you recommend? A great one is "QP On 3.0" however almost no one sells it and it's $80 per can. :(
I've never heard of anyone coating leather with ceramic. I thought that's only for glass and paint.
I Accidentally used a magic eraser on my bmw steering wheel without knowing it is an abrasive, what do I have to use to reseal the leather now that I guess i stripped away the protective layer? the steering wheel is a matte finish so I dont want a sealer that makes it shiny. Thank you
303 uv protection might work? It's not shiny

An apc and drill brush
WOW!....thats the ticket:)
I use it and it’s legit
do not use on leather steering wheels, I use a soft brush, soap and water, 303 protector.
So if you have smooth leather with no texture, your good to go with minimal pressure...
Texas? Sounds like Texas by way of Ronkonkoma
very close!!...Port Jeff my friend:)
Don't most people have a seat cover anyway? I mean leather seats in the summer? Ouch.
Would magic eraser takes sprayed paint off leather?
It melamine baking soda and borax
Why don't you use window cleaner?
on leather??
I would think the alcohol would dry out the oils in the leather...
Just keep magic eraser soaked in bucket with water an after cleaning put back after
It's impossible to tell if that's dirt or colorant that's pulled off the seat. Hope your N.Y. accent doesn't drive the native Texans nuts!
I'm just getting around to committing because I just got up from passing out from another video that blew me away BAM BAM DAM WOW
Spray Nine dwell for 10 seconds mop with a microfiber towel
I did that today,it cleaned it up pretty good but there was small spec spots where the leather dye got picked up.
Magic Eraser and melamine sponges are similar to 3000 grit sandpaper, not 5000 grit. Really aggressive stuff! Never use one on leather.

what you have on that magic eraser is also paint not only dirt....That BMW leather is the worst in the industry...
I was removing finger paint and this leather seat is coated leather, the coating is not dyed, so yes I was pulling up dirt because the seats hadn't been cleaned in years
N
Talked too long ...
