  • This video shows how to make a protective battery extension cable that will prolong the life of the radio battery contact.
    The battery connector of the 9XR is very exposed. There is a real possibility that either the contact in the radio or the battery cable is damaged through repeated battery insertions and removals.
    The extension cable also makes it possible to use 2s LiPo batteries in the radio, since that is my preference. You might just as well chose to make a 3s to 3s protective extension.

    I ordered the first day the transmitter went up on the site.
    I think I got it in a bit more than two weeks time, which is brilliant compared to the time it usually takes to order something from HongKong.

    Yes, a 2s cell will be enough to drive the radio with the Orange transmitter module. I have used exactly that setup extensively.

    Hi, very good tutorial, you can use any LiPo battery in this transmitter? I have a new battery ZIPPY 1000mAh 3S 25C Lipo Compact Pack?

    A great mod. Thanks for sharing. My 9XR is on Backorder but I will be making one of these for it for when it arrives.

    inside the 9xr there is a voltage regulator, you don´t need to use a 2S, 3s is perfect with no problem, but regarding the connection you made, its perfect to use no matter to 2S or 3S, just because of the brake part....

    First class idea. Top marks. Although I'd use a smaller battery myself, you don't need a 2200. HK do a nice 1450 1c pack or a LiFe is even better.

    How long did Hobbyking take to ship? With backorder and all?

    I'm trying to decide what TX I want to buy, the turnigy 9X or 9XR. I like the 9X because I like to do the mods myself with the 9XR it's already done for you. So which 1 of the 2 should I get???

      In short: The 9XR.
      The 9XR had a number of issues when it came out. The buttons stuck, the pots in the gimbals failed, the plastic molding of the case had issues. All those issues are gone by now.And as a bonus HobbyKing has upgraded the processor in the 9XR to a variant that has more room for model memories.
      The only thing the 9x has going for it is that it comes with a radio module. But that radio module is not to be trusted. I took me a couple of crashed planes to find that out the hard way.

    or you just have one battery in all the time and charge it by the charging port on the remote then you don't wear out the wires

      jameshone1000 If you charge a 2 or 3S LiPo through the built in charging port, you will not get balance charging which is an absolute requirement for a LiPo battery. You do NOT want a LiPo fire in your transmitter! Far better to charge the battery outside the transmitter like Kjell does.
      I use a slightly tired old 3S 1600mAh battery that has been retired from use as a flight battery. It will last for several visits to the flying field, and I always bring a spare. The mod looks like a great idea. Even better might be to remove the plug altogether and solder a 2 or 3S balancing cable direct to the board.

    Does the radio bring something to use AA batteries??

    • @dvogonen
      @dvogonen  11 років тому

      No, it did not come with a AA or AAA holder for the battery compartment.

      ***** Damn it... Thank You for the info!
      By the way is the radio really any good? Like compared to Futaba, JR, Spektrum, Hitec...???
      Is it precise, glitch free?
      Would you really fly an expensive model with it and trust the radio
      eceiver won't fail?

    • @dvogonen
      @dvogonen  11 років тому +1

      Yes, I would trust it with an expensive model. But you naturally need to use a high quality radio module like a FrSky.
