Hi Mike. Wow was I surprised with this video!! Thank you very much for featuring my question from your facebook group, really appreciate it! Your video and clear explanation helped answer my question on prochannel sidechain compression and also how to set it up. I will try it out on my next techno track. Cakewalk by Bandlab is such an amazing software that still keeps surprising me even after all these years and thankfully there is your channel which helps share it to the masses. Wishing you the Best! Jozsef
Just a small tip: You don't need to "Remove Module" and then move it around, you can just select "Replace Module" and the new module will be in the exact same position the old one was. Great content as always, Mike!
Hi Mike, In the '60s when I was recording (on 4 track analogue equipment) we had nothing like this. I went 'dormant' for about 40 years to pursue a career in IT and raise a family etc, but then my 15 year old grandson introduced me to Cakewalk. Wow !! Thanks to your superb videos I am learning big time and enjoying playing and recording again. (and with some help from G-Snap I can even add vocals !). Sidechain Compression - that's gonna be SO useful to me. My grandson and I now record and jam together (he's a great guitarist with his own band and is studying studio technology at college). I've moved over to mainly keyboards cos arthritis makes it difficult for me to do anything too complex on guitars these days. The main thing is that I'm really loving playing again. Keep up the fantastic work. I'm not on Facebook etc but I'll send you one of our joint efforts (a cover of an old 60's ballad). Cheers, Bernard.
I'm just getting started with sidechain compression. I love the fact that I can use the Pro Channel instead of a plugin at times. Thanks Mike for another great video!!!!!
Wow, I worked very hard composing a complex/ cool bass line. Now I think I will use side chaining to tame only the low frequencies on the rest of the mix. Thank’s a lot!
I Starded use Cakewalk from a few mons ago and every day i find out new features, it’s unbelievable what that free Daw kann do ! Love to watch you videos you have aways the best content im learning a lot about mixing an that’s all for free, so i just subscribed today thanks for all of you work !
I like your patience and delivery here, as you usually do, taking time to walk through the important steps, and explain your individual preferences with the additional plugins. Great guide! 👍Thanks Mike
Mike all ur cakewalk videos are helpful to me .. as i am cubase fan I recently tried cakewalk by bandlabs and loving the pro channel ..and I never really understood when to use compression but watching ur vids like this one is teaching me when you might want to use compression...or side chain.. thank you for vids ..😀
Amazing video Mike. This unequivocally explains how a compressor works in general. Never totally understood compressors but this explains it in a nutshell. Great!!! Eddie
Thanks Mike. I had heard of side-chain compression but was unclear of what it was and how it's used. This sheds clarity and I loved the examples you gave. Thank you so much again for another great video! Stay amazing!
Great! I used to know how to do this but that was 20 years ago and I had completely forgotten about it. Thanks very much for the reminder, Mike, especially the pre-fade part.
Hey Mike I've learned a lot from your channel great content. It's amazing how the software looks and it's free.I'm a Cubase guy really well not anymore. You just can't beat free.
Thanks again Mike..... this tutorial has clarified side chain comp so much more for me. I'd really appreciate some tutorials on AD2 if you could - I use that plugin and put each drum on separate tracks, but I need to understand more! Cheers
Hi Mike, would you use a sidechain bus? Common for drum, bass and vox against your instrument (music) bus ? use send on your bus also good for parallel compression bus to send for drum and bass, give some thickness and colour.
Another good one, Mike; thanks. I keep several of your vids bookmarked (on he control key and the PRV, since I do MIDI-coded drums). The voice ducking sounds great, glad you pointed out the longer release needed. Maybe a vid combining all the techniques for keeping kick/bass apart...? including this, and EQ, and panning and the other ways to move a sound around in space?
Hi Mike. Another great tutorial. This and some of your other videos have recently re-opened my eyes to how useful the Pro-Channel is ... I've been guilty of overlooking this for too long, typically rummaging around for some fancy 3rd party plugin when these effective tools are already there, staring me in the face! Am I right in also thinking they're more efficient on my cpu? Thanks and keep these great videos coming! Oh, and one request - could you do some tutorials on the lesser known features of the 'advanced' menu as I'm sure there are some hidden gems in there also! Cheers
Its a very old module from X1 or X2. I dont have it anymore either. Idk... Edit: If you right click the right click the default comp and choose replace it should show up. You should also see it if you first remove the default comp. The PC76 should show up as well.
I've got a question about the plug in itself. I've been a cakewalk users since pre Sonar days. In fact, the last product I purchased before Cakewalk was bought by bandlab was Sonar X3 . I used to have this side chain compressor untill I went ahead and downloaded CW by Bandlab. Now it's gone. any idea where it went anybody?
I have the same problem. My last install had it but i just did a fresh windows install and now im missing a few of them. Let me know if you figure it out. Edit: If you right click the right click the default comp and choose replace it should show up. You should also see it if you first remove the default comp. The PC76 should show up as well.

Such an awesome story Bernard, thank you :)
I can clearly say this is the most exhaustive and clear sidechain tutorial I've ever seen.
You can never have too many videos about sidechaining. Each additional one generalizes the viewer's understanding.
Cheers Timothy :)
Excellent video. Thank you so much. Mike, you are the greatest :)
Appreciate learning how to use sidechaining in the prochannel. Thank you and thanks for all your excellent tutorials!
Amazing tutorial on the best DAW of all times!
This is Great !!! - reflecting the "power of community" - fantastic move creating the FB group total win/win.
I'm just getting started with sidechain compression. I love the fact that I can use the Pro Channel instead of a plugin at times.

This was super helpful! I really didn't know how to sidechain nor what it was used for. Another great video. Thank you!
Yet another extraordinary video. Thanks.
You make me speechless, a skilful communicator.
Excellent method for kick & bass using prefader.
Just caught up with this one - possibly your subtlest tutorial yet Mike ;-) Great stuff as always!

Nice one Mike, Thanks
Thanks Malcolm :)
Nice video. I sometimes use this in addition to Hi Passing my kick and bass. Sometimes you need it , sometimes you don't.
This is a huge help. Thanks Mike.
Excellent info, as usual. Thanks again.
Thanks Mike. Much like the tutorial.
Very welcome
This is excellent instruction Mike. I might have an opportunity to put this to use for an overdub soon. Thank you!
Go for it!

Cheers Karry :)
Very Helpful Mike. THANK YOU!

Great video BTW

Ty Mike very cool and did not know
Very helpful indeed. I think that built-in compressor may be underrated, Cheers! :-)
I think so too!
I don't use enough sidechain comp... maybe it's time to look carefully when it comes handy... as this video. Thanks Mike!
Go for it!
love this, is this a new prochannel feature Mike? I'll try it on my next project.
Thank you. No, it's been there forever - just often forgotten!
This was great
Found it when I did replace as suggested by Yuri!
Thanks so much 🤗
Good day, mate.
Hello there!
Hi Mike. Another great tutorial. This and some of your other videos have recently re-opened my eyes to how useful the Pro-Channel is ... Thank you, and thanks for the suggestion. I do believe thats correct about CPU usage.
@@CreativeSauce Thanks Mike 👍
I don't think the compressor used here is included with CWBB. If it is then it's missing from my new computer.
Using side chain compression on vocal fx can get you more transparency in the mix.
здорово! спасибо! 👍
Thanks...
When it comes to side-chaining for dynamics, I think I prefer a gate over a compressor. Any thoughts?
I don't seem to have this compressor. Has the band lab version got limited modules? I am missing a few.
How was the process and advantages of mixing in Cakewalk compared to Studio One?
Hi mike on at mine prochannel i cant find the sidechain compressor
i did everythinh what you did but there,s no compressor ?
remeber in sonar you can use s compressor and u compressor on same channel
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank u!!!!!!
Thanks sir but the link of torrent its not work please give me the to
I'm not finding this compressor on the list. Is it a recent addition or an add on?
Its a very old module from X1 or X2. I dont have it anymore either. Idk...
Edit: If you right click the right click the default comp and choose replace it should show up. You should also see it if you first remove the default comp. The PC76 should show up as well.
трюк с утолщением вокала в cakewalk от bandlab

why doesn't my sidechain work? I turn it but nothing
You really should have demonstrated how to get the pulsing sound for all those. Ahem...... Producers.
