I haven't been in Luneburg since 1957, only 12 years after the end of WWII. Stationed there with the BAOR doing my National Service with the HLI. Hamburg was where we went for some R&R at the weekend. What a change! Thanks for the videos Steve; they allow me to revisit some of the places I knew so long ago.
Thank you Steve for introducing me to the city of Hamburg. It certainly has inspired me to add it to my endless list of European destinations I’ve not yet visited. 👏👏👍😎
...wow, Steve - this was a bit of an emotional roller-coaster for me... why? - because I was born in Hamburg, but I never lived there after my early months in this life... but my grandmother had a farm close to Lueneburg, and I returned there many times during my teenage years... even only touching lightly into this in you short clip, gave me chills... feeling very grateful for this... thank you!! xx
That was a lot of fun Steve!! WISH I could go to Europe .. I'm putting Luneburg on my list when I get there again .. Oh and the Forth Bridges were great.
Ann McDermott thanks Ann! It’s such a lovely wee place! And I was lucky to have that nice view out of a rare sunny day in Edinburgh! Thanks for your support :)
Woke up this morning to a notification of a new Steve Marsh video. Yay! Another fine work young man. So OK I am officially envious that you can just hop on a plane and end up in Hamburg on the cheap and fast. Would love to visit Hamburg. Beautiful place. You really seem to have a knack for capturing charming aspects of the places you visit. I am continually amazed how you can go to all these places without renting a car. You just can't do that here in the U.S. except New York and maybe Chicago.
salsaman06 thanks so much man! Really appreciate your support and comments :) yeah, we really do take it for granted, but I’m still desperate to get back over to your part of the world! Take care mate, thanks for watching!!
Love seeing your videos and even more when you visit one of my favourite cities. Hamburg is absolutely brilliant especially around christmas time. Thanks for the video
flyer 1 ohhh I need to get back at Christmas! I love Hamburg too, but I always seem to be there in summer! I was walking around thinking ‘how nice would this be on a winters day’ 🤣 cheers for watching!
Lovely Steve! You're a man after my own heart in the bargain department. I can recommend the Christmas market in Salzburg. I went years ago on a 1p flight with Ryanair!
Amazing video as always, Steve! We are goung to be flying with Ryanair in 2 weeks so it was good to see this and know how they are treating everything! I 100% need to go and see that magical mini Hamburg, it's sooo cool!!! Can't wait for your next video, wherever that may be 😁
Great to see Hamburg again Steve. My visit was a while back, London to Hamburg (Hamburg Airlines) then quickly onto Celle. So your visit was much more comprehensive than mine. I'd love to return post Covid-19. Thanks, it was very enjoyable
A great trip with awesome photography you create to share with us. I really enjoy seeing your adventures. An early morning flight is a great way to start a trip with beautiful sky and smooth flying.
At least there is a theory that the Hamburg streetfood „Rundstück warm“ is the ancestor of the American burger. A „Rundstück“ is a breadroll in Hamburg‘s dialect, otherwise the Germans call it Brötchen, Semmel or Schrippe. And what turns it into a warm meal is the „Frikadelle“, a fried meatloaf, that goes with it. That meatloaf is usually 3/4 ground beef, one quarter ground pork to add more fat and juice, plus lots of chopped onions, eggs and optionally some stall bread as a filler. It is the poor relative of a steak and is normally eaten with veggies and potatoes, no gravy.
Excellent informative video of Hamburg. Miniatur Wunderland is unbelivable. Train bus and ferry pass is ideal for every one with freedom of hoop on and off.
You seem to have picked the same things as me and my son, cheers...I remember well when we took the Hambourg Harbour Cruise with my son and how excited he was with all the containers, cranes and docks, to me it was more like dadaistic esthetics, I prefer Lüneburg, but I do agree with you that the view with the planes from Hambourg AirPort Restaurant is one of the best in the world, of course, and my son found it epic, And for true hamburger lovers like the two of us a Hamburger in Hambourg is a must. One detail, I remember having discussed the Roses of Bulgaria with one bulgarian guy watching the planes landing and taking off at Hambourg AirPort. That would be my advice to you for your next flight to share your experience of the Rose harvesting in Bulgaria. That guy was so enthusiastic about it as a local that it must be something unique with those Rose gardens. The season of the Rose harvesting comes soon, at the turn of May and June.
Great video Steve....looks like a fun weekend & SO cheap!! I envy you guys being in Europe & so close in flying time to so many great places to explore. Yes...I did notice that you had your Newfy hat on....lol!! Looking forward to the next one!
Bob Hudson cheers Bob! Yes, I know how to find a bargain and live cheaply 🤣 that hat - I’ve got to wear it in every video, hope i don’t lose it!!! Thanks for watching :)
Thank you Steve and your video brought back some pleasant memories from my day trip to Hamburg 20 months ago, traveling with friends I was visiting in Potsdam.
Hamburg. - One of my favourite cities! First time was a cut price "Citybreak" back in the mid-eighties, when the ferries from Harwich still used to tie up at the Landungsbrucken.
Excellent video and commentary! Reminded me of my year plus in Germany. Happy to see someone travel like I did: last minute on a low cost carrier with a lot of walking and appreciation. Got to see a good bit of Europe that way. You have earned a new subscriber! Cheers and keep on spreading joy!
Yeah, the Elbetunnel is so freakin' cool. I've been to it now twice when I've passed by Hamburg this and last year. Another tip try out Blockbräu. They have great Bratwursts, Sauerkraut and locally-made beer :-)
Ahoy Steve! Great video! I truly can not wait 'till my next flight! How you catch the moments of pure joy in aviation is priceless, matey! Hats off. Hamburg is definitely on my list, good to know it's cheap, Berlin needed planning but had my budget managed. Capt. of the g.o. Blackthorne
6:05 I saw those peoples video on tiktok it had 10 million likes lol it’s the same people I think they’re called storror or something along those lines
Steve, I lived in Hamburg for 9 years, a great place! Lueneburg I'd forgotten what that was like. But have you been to Luebeck, worth a day trip there. Would love to see your first trip to Hamburg. Where did you stay?
Oh it was between the 2! A reason to come back! ;) I stayed in a 6 bed dorm just off Reeperbahn, unable to film there, it was ok, but glad it was only for a few hours! Cheers for watching!
Great video Steve makes me want to go myself but oh! never mind maybe next year, I know what you mean about swapping seats on the plane why do people want to get so how can i put it uncompliant at 07.00 in the morning and the airports and airlines are complicit too.
I stayed in a hostel near St Michael's Church, but it was poor and couldn't film there - really should have mentioned that in the video though! It was super cheap and I only spent about 5 hours there so not too bad!
Fantastic as always. I really liked Hamburg but, I have to say, Berlin will always be my first (Deutscher) love. But that doesn't preclude a return to Hamburg (and a side trip to Lüneburg!)
CanuckJim cheers Jim! Oh I’ve only been to Berlin for a night in the airport! And even then it rained so hard! I really can’t wait to get back there and give it a fair crack! :)
is Ryanair actually flying to the main airport in Hamburg or to some former military airfield miles and miles away like they do with Frankfurt as they don't fly to Frankfurt Main airport but to Frankfurt Hahn.
They used to fly to and from the small commercial airport of Lübeck when they said Hamburg. Then Lübeck- Blankensee was closed for a while, changed its owner and is back in business now, but without Ryanair.
@@steve-marsh Yes i went in 2019 from Hamburg on the halunder jet and it was a awesome experience. My only regret was i didnt stay overnight but soon as things are as back to normal as is possible i will go back for 2 nights 🙂

It's Saturday evening in Australia which means it's time for The SteveMarsh Show.Great video.
Looks great this model village as we call it
Thank you Steve for introducing me to the city of Hamburg. It certainly has inspired me to add it to my endless list of European destinations I’ve not yet visited. 👏👏👍😎
I love Germany and we flew to Heidelberg in 2017 rented a car and had a great time…a beautiful country 🤗
Oh same! I'm really looking forward to editing my recent Germany trip. It had good and bad in it, but still, what a country!
...wow, Steve - this was a bit of an emotional roller-coaster for me... why? - because I was born in Hamburg, but I never lived there after my early months in this life... but my grandmother had a farm close to Lueneburg, and I returned there many times during my teenage years... even only touching lightly into this in you short clip, gave me chills... feeling very grateful for this... thank you!! xx
Ah that’s great to hear! Thanks so much and I tell you what, you come from a beautiful part of the world!
We lived in northern Germany for 3 years and I'd say you caught the feel and vibe really well. A wecome and pleasant trip down memory lane for me.
Unbelievable views 😮
7am drunk people.. why do folk do that 🤦♂️🤷♂️? Another great video bud. You are giving me so many ideas of places to go and see.
Andy Carr haha I never understand how people can drink at that time, especially when flying, I’d feel awful! 🤣 cheers for watching!
That was a lot of fun Steve!! WISH I could go to Europe .. I'm putting Luneburg on my list when I get there again .. Oh and the Forth Bridges were great.

Great video Steve, I would have loved it to have been at least twice as long!
Really enjoyed that one Steve Hamburg looks a beautiful city.cheers.🍺🍺👍
Glad you enjoyed it, an incredible city!
Enjoyed your trip, makes me wonder it's time to go back again, thanks.
Good to see you had a hamburger in Hamburg, given it's the home of the burger!
Ryan Fleming ohhh nice! That comment is getting pinned 🤣
... Given "Burger" actually means "Citizen", and "Hamburger" "Citizen of Hamburg", this is all slightly disturbing. 😂

Such a cool place, I was too tired to give it better video, a place you really need to visit to appreciate fully!
Thanks - really whet my appetite to go to Hamburg and Luneburg.
Wonderful places and the train journey is fun between them too :)

Planning on going there in the summer '23, so this helps. :)
Glad to hear it! Great city :)
Great roof area at airport, used to go up on roof of Cardiff as a kid to watch planes come in. Sadly health+safety put an end to it.
Great video Steve and a great price ! Where did you stay in Hamburg ?
Ausgezeichnet! Aber wo hast Du geschlafen?
cascinagianni vielen dank! I slept in a hostel so there was nothing to film 🤣

Brilliant video thanks.
I assume accommodation was cheap because of the pandemic as well?
Yes, it was about £30 - sorry, meant to include it in video!
Great weekend , where did you sleep in Hamberg ?
Ah I'm sorry, I can't remember - early days in the channel and dint record enough back then!
9:40 you could have gone on the regional train instead of the intercity for a fraction of the cost.
Ouch, really? Cheers for the tip, next time!
Did you get a room in Hamburg? If not where did you sleep and wash?
I stayed in a hostel near St Michael's Church, but it was poor and couldn't film there - really should have mentioned that in the video though! It was super cheap and I only spent about 5 hours there so not too bad!
Where did you stay to keep the price so low?
An awful hostel near St Michael's - I sure got what I paid for, but was only there 5 hours so not too bad!
Ah nooooooooooooooooooooo! How did you end up with an overwing seat?
I know right!?
👋
which hotel did you stay at Steve?

can u plz tell me where u sat
Oh boy I can’t remember, and can’t even check my emails as I scooted forward to the over wind seat. Sorry!
Ah it’s fine great vid
How are you able to fly during Covid if non emergency
That was back when the skies were open and travel was permitted, there were no such restrictions at that time.
And well done the Germans, a lot of mask wearers :)
