They were going to accuse him of stealing from the govt, which he didn't do. He knew they were going to say that if he didn't offer an alternative explanation. So I guess back then less dishonorable to admit you cheated on your wife and got blackmailed for it. Maybe he didn't need to go into such detail in the Reynolds pamphlet, but he wanted to beat them to the punch, get it out there so it was done. Then the next scandal would take its place sooner.
The OG Schuyler Refuted is just perfect, the “So am I” and “One day he’ll run Manhattan” it truly shows how Alexander is so proud of his son that he can’t hold the pride himself and his son is also very proud of himself
Damn, I actually really like the Theodosia reprise. It humanizes Burr, a lot. Show more of his internal struggle. It seems like a lot of Burr’s stuff was cut :/
I know this isn’t related but here’s a interesting fact, it’s said that Burr ran off and tried to start his own independent country in the southern states after the duel and Jefferson arrested him for treason.
Burr: HE WORE HIS GLASSES TO TAKE DEADLY AIM Hamilton: *Burr please I can’t see without these omg leave my glasses out of this ok let’s start this duel you regret*
Here’s the thing: he actually didn’t. Most reports between him shooting Alexander and his own death come off as more of a “b*tch had it coming” sort of thing
I just realized...."I can't wait to see him again..." - Eliza talking about Hamilton in Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story......and that's the last sentence she says in that song.....
It's got the irony-both burr and hamilton's demise was led by them betraying their "core value" Hamilton threw away his shot And burr did not wait for it
Burr: "Hamilton was wearing his glasses, why? if not to take deadly aim?" Hamilton: "I put on my glasses so I can see" bruh, he's just short-sighted, chill out
I think it just didn't flow with the rest of the songs they way the renlods (I can't spell to save my life) and burn flow together. but I agree it should have been put in the original.
I agree that it’s a good song but it sort of didn’t flow. Also kinda made Angelica seem like a bish. Political sacrifice isn’t the same as letting your sister marry the dude you love. They did keep the important parts and used less songs, giving Hamilton 48 songs for his 47 years of life. (The last song is remembering Hamilton.)
the fact that burr said “there’s the kid who almost shot charles lee in the jaw” cause phillip comes by and phillip & john laurens are played by the same person makes me laugh
something I noticed in a lot of these songs is that they paint Hamilton in a much more antagonistic light, and Burr in a more positive light. for example, in Let it Go, Eliza and Washington are trying to calm Hamilton down, but Hamilton sounded as if he had a pen in his hands he would've challenged Burr to a duel right then and there. Burrs line "Just apologize, we have worthier pursuits", shows that Burr really didn't want to duel Hamilton. He only did because Hamilton didn't back down. And in Obedient Servant, Hamilton's letters where much more hostile, and provoked Burr into making the mistake of challenging Hamilton. And Hamilton overall in these songs was much more hostile to Burr then Burr was to Hamilton
With the inclusion of Hurricane I feel like this would of worked really well In the opening we hear how Hamilton rose, only for burr to seemingly act as the right way in the first part.as Hamilton takes more risks he gains more and thus is in the more positive light, only for them to switch back.then finally seen as equal during the end
"Maybe I can get home before Eliza opens her eyes. Oh God, I can't wait to see her again." I THOUGHT THIS MUSICAL COULDN'T HURT ME MORE BUT I WAS SO VERY WRONG
Same absolutely loved him! He's honestly my favorite character and I'm so sad that the songs that gave him more depth got cut. But it's was probably bc some people at Disney were wanting Hamilton to be more likeable bc he was the "main character". Even tho I believe Burr/ Eliza was the true main character, so it's sad to see the songs that gave them more depth cut out. 😭
@@cielhigh4401I love this actually. That’s why I love that the musical is just called “Hamilton” and not “Alexander Hamilton”, it’s about all the Hamiltons, and Burr.
Anyone else want them to merge the two so he still gets to end with the “Siddown John” reference from 1776? Because i think it fits better if they’re linked
Can we please just acknowledge Lin's writing ability in The Adam's Administration, cause that was savage!! Pure gold!! Also the line in the Ten Duel Commandments 'The sun is in my eyes, I am almost giddy as I watch it slowly rise above my New York City', it's perfect because even as he's coming to his end, he can take pride in the city he helped create, and that's his legacy, he achieved what he wanted, and he gets to see that in his final moments
I understand that Hamilton's death monologue is better than his countdown one here, and they really couldn't work together one after the other, but god I wish we could somehow have had both.
Hearing Alexander Hamilton say, “Bitch please,” is so hilarious to me for some reason. Edit: some people in the replies think I’m talking about the actual Alexander Hamilton. I know who Lin-Manuel-Miranda is and I know that he plays Hamilton. I’m saying that the idea of The Alexander Hamilton saying Bitch please is funny
Kru Kru true true. But if Hamilton had never cheated on Eliza Eacker would never had said all that stuff about Alex and then Philip would never had challenge him. You have a point though.
The way Phillip said 'let him know we're on his side shows how supportive of his father he is. And then immediately after, Eliza's 'no, he'll consider this a personal slander, I've got to stop a homicides' show how much she knows Hamilton.
Stuff that got cut: Hamilton being a jerk Eliza being a good wife and a real character Burr being even more complex Angelica being savage A better picture of the final showdown
They may have cut some of Eliza's earlier prominence so that Burn hits harder. She chose to erase her early days, and so only the barest details appear. She chose not to be part of Hamilton's story.
I actually wish dead theodosia reprise was in the show. Within the context of the show, it puts burr in a worse mental state, making his actions more in character

Nicholas Ward yea i also read that he bragged a lot about killing alexander
Ayana Lawson he did! He also sometimes jokingly referred to him by saying “my friend Hamilton, who I shot,”

That’s funny for 2 reasons
He couldn’t see in certain light and this was at dawn so he couldn’t see
I’m genuinely upset that they didn’t put congratulations in Hamilton,
It’s a very good and important song to the show
I only think it was cut because zoo's weren't created until 1857 or close to that. So I wouldn't make sense. Btw it's 5:40 right now sooo
They basically just turned it into the bit in The Reynolds Pamphlet
It was cut cause Lin thought everyone was too excited to see elizas response
the fact that burr said “there’s the kid who almost shot charles lee in the jaw” cause phillip comes by and phillip & john laurens are played by the same person makes me laugh
Omg yes I didn’t realize that
Timestamp for that part??
Blossom • 2:25
Sammy Jay The thing is Laurens is older than him lol
No that wasn’t for Philip it was cause Hamilton was being crazy laurens did shoot Charles lee in the jaw
something I noticed in a lot of these songs is that they paint Hamilton in a much more antagonistic light, and Burr in a more positive light.
for example, in Let it Go, Eliza and Washington are trying to calm Hamilton down, but Hamilton sounded as if he had a pen in his hands he would've challenged Burr to a duel right then and there.
Yes, but then look at hamilton’s side in “Ten things on thing” - it explains so much and puts Hamilton into such a good light.
With the inclusion of Hurricane I feel like this would of worked really well
In the opening we hear how Hamilton rose, only for burr to seemingly act as the right way in the first part.as Hamilton takes more risks he gains more and thus is in the more positive light, only for them to switch back.then finally seen as equal during the end
