Kind of glossed over the idea that, if the UAW gets what it wants, the reason car prices would increase is really because wall street and the rich majority stockholders aren't going to stand for any dent in their profit margins. there's plenty of money there. basically, rich people gonna rich. and that's the real problem isn't it.

Per vehicle profit has increased over the years and we the consumers are paying more per vehicle. This is happening at the same time labor costs are decreasing due to staffing reductions. GE got rid of a ton of workers between their 2016 and 2017 reportings with a steady decrease until 2021 and while on a hiring wave they haven’t caught back to their pre2016 numbers. In that time GE has seen a 7% per year increase to average transaction price on their vehicle. Costs are going up, labor costs are going down, compensation to the executives are increasing. It’s not hard to see we consumers are getting a bad straw while the employees are also getting a bad straw.

$20 an hour for unskilled labor like burger flipping IS ridiculous BUT the reason why its a thing is because the cost of living has increased drastically and the wage floor basically had to increase a bit. Heres the pill nobody wants to swallow... if you are an unskilled worker or your skills can be done by almost anybody then you were basically meant to be poor or almost live comfortably, im sorry guys but there will ALWAYS ALWAYS be poor people, there will ALWAYS be rich people and there will Always be people that are inbetween (well off / comfortable) not everyone can have an equal piece of the pie or even a piece at all thats just how it is.
Unskilled labor has a low difficulty to entry meaning anyone can do your fucking job, anyone can flip burgers or lay brick but not everyone can be a cardiologist or a software engineer. Supply, demand and the skills you know is what will make you marketable. If you are working at a job like mcdonalds or walmart when you're 30+ years old then thats your fault and you need to learn a new skill that will pay more, if not then get left behind and dont adapt the the constantly changing market.

When the fiduciary duty of a company hurts more people than it helps, it becomes a moral issue. But there is no morality in business, especially in corporate boardrooms. They would cut jobs to save their bonuses without blinking an eye, but apparently it's outrageous to ask for the same pay raises they gave themselves. You hit the nail on the head at 13:39. The union starts with outrageous demands and eventually lands on a figure close to what they were looking for in the first place, it's how negotiations go. I don't fault them for trying to get theirs since the executives have definitely been overpaid for a long time now.

    • @bobroberts2371

Its always the 18 dollar a hr union worker that causes the price of the car to increase. If GM moved all production to Mexico and paid 4 dollars a hr to build that vehicle will the Tahoe remain at 80k or will management pass the labor savings to customers. We all know the greed of corporations would never sell the Tahoe for 20k. If your not critical of management pay then your opinion on Union workers is pointless.

Sadly I do see a lot of union workers abusing the system as well. They're not like myself that want to work always make sure they do a good job. Also if you like you can this read up about people on the spectrum and their work ethic.
