Glad you enjoyed. I've kind of got into a groove where the more "fine" furniture gets this style editing. And the more experimental stuff, or DIY stuff gets the other style of editing.

I watch all vids at double-speed. At a glance, the hempwood (hemp-wood?) reminds me of cork -- lots of figure, but it's granular and moderate contrast, so it doesn't poke you in the eye. I really like it. Good call, and thanks for taking that risk -- it worked out once for you, but several tens of thousands of times for your audience.
Clever, arty, skilful, innovative, well engineered, entertaining, practical ..... and those descriptors for this piece, and its making, came to mind without even thinking.

I don't know if you are familiar with EQ'ing. But your VO is resonating at around 160-200 hz and at 630 hz. I suggest cutting around 3-6 db at those frequencies on your VO's. All in all your videos are great! learning a lot. (am an audio professional).
the first use of hemp wood by a maker that I've seen, cool........ I'm curious how it holds stain and how strong it is,,,,,, has a mixed look of cork and particle board..... hope it becomes a truly useful alternative
I've seen stained examples and it seems to take it pretty well. In terms of strength of heard it's similar to something like oak...but obviously more fibrous, where depending on how you work it you could get little strands breaking away.
Hey there BigDady Stein. On the janka scale HempWood measures around 2,700. It is very dense. You can use both water based and old based finishes. The manufacture recommends oil based. Since this is fiber based material its best to keep it away from water and to be used for interior purposes. Hope that helps!

I love your choice of woods! I think those legs would look more high-design with a large radius round over to be honest. That kind of thing makes them look carved and would really contrast the beautiful rectangular drawer box on top!

I would love to see you try and make something using old pallets. I had to do this for my last year of school, we could only use the pallet wood and we had to pull it apart ourselves.

My friend mentioned a cool Idea for hemp wood. It would be really hard to break into the lumber and slow down deforestation with such a niche looking product like hempwood. BUT since they advertise it being 20% stronger than oak, what If incorporating it into the sheet and panel good market and replacing soft wood/mdf/hard wood/etc CORES.

I wonder if the hempwood can be manufactured to specific curves that would otherwise require steam boxes and bending jigs. It would be really cool to have some control over the direction of the wood grain.
Hey Mark, great idea. We are not aware of anyone who has tried to apply curves to HempWood. This product is so new that no one has tried. You would be the first. As for wood grain we currently offer two types plain sawn and rift sawn (what you see in this video).

I've seen one other project done with hemp wood. In that case it comprised the whole project. It's obviously much nicer -- really nice, I'd say -- as an accent.
Less is more with these kinds of woods :)
I like the old school throwback foureyes video that this is (taking nothing away from Shaun). Also, I know that hemp is used for lots of things but did not know about hemp wood. Is that something like bamboo wood? Grass-like glued together?
HempWood is compressed fiber. It's made from hemp stalks and a soy protein (no formaldehyde added and food safe) adhesive that acts as the binder. Hempwood is manufactured in a similar process to bamboowood. Hope that helps!

Hey, I recently came up with a Domino hack that I think is really awesome. I bought a box of disposable syringes and use them for measured glue distribution. Pretty much eliminates squeeze out.
