- The Tacoma is totally redesigned for 2024 and Toyota brought some major changes. On the outside of the TRD Sport you will discover 18in wheels, hood coupe, and body colored flared fenders. On the inside you will be greeted by an all new infotainment system and digital gauge cluster. Powering the Tacoma is a 2.4L turbocharged inline-4 mated to a 6-speed manual. Is the 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 6-speed manual the PERFECT new truck?

One good thing about a manual transmission is ! It probably will never get stolen. Probably about 75% of the population can't drive a stick shift vehicle !!! I grew up with four different vehicles with a clutch.
Excellent point!
Millennial anti theft device 😂
...Good point, was just about to say this... Ya I want it
How is the average person supposed to eat a Big Mac, drink a slushy, put on makeup & text while shifting? You might have to concentrate on driving, and who needs that? In reality I would probably get tired of “rowing” after 6 or 8 months...
Good for you then
Dude! FINALLY..a manual transmission paired with a solid cabin and modern technology /infotainment! My continued struggle is that I want to go back to a manual, but it's so hard for me to entertain the idea when I can get far better amenities --sometimes bordering on luxury--with similarly-priced mid-size SUVs. Love this Taco! Thanks, Joe--and Lori, too!
@sox2000 you have to decide if you want an engaging drive, or amenities. For me, it's manual all the way!
@@steve8803 I want both! Which is why the Tacoma fits the bill!
To be honest, Joe, it was this generation of the Tacoma that finally got my attention.
That’s a good thing
@@RaitisRides Can't wait for the IFORCE MAX media drive Raiti 🙌
Yes it has for me as well I'm very interested
Enough room in the door panels for 4 avocados and 2 bananas is exactly what I was looking for
That sounds perfect then Jordan!
As long as the reliability stays , then I’ll be good with the Turbo 4. I’m gonna wait a year or 2 before I get one just to see how it goes but I really want one
It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
Toyota and Lexus have been doing 4cyl turbo engines for at least 5-6 years now. My only issue with this Tacoma turbo is the 5W-20 oil choice. Not a good choice for a turbo truck.
@@kennetho5393 I think Scotty Kilmer said it right 0W 16 oil for turbo engines
@@wilyceyote Weird. That's the exact opposite of what I've heard about oil recommendations. However, whatever oil the manufacturer recommends is what matters most. I use 5W-30 in my daily and 5W-50 in my weekend toy.
Reliability will vanish. These trucks will not last as long with turbo
Taco ! Nice job Toyota 👍. Lots of trims to choose from . Thanks Joe and Lori !! And California 🏄♂️
I’m glad that you are liking this one Tom.
Love how you relate the storage compartment size to how much food you can stuff in there!! Great review!!
Yes I liked the manual transmission,it’s satisfying for me, That was fun, even for me, hope you had fun too. 😎🤩
I had a blast my friend.
Thank you two for the hard and wonderful work 🎉🎉🎉❤!
You are the best Tim!
I absolutely love it especially the manual transmission. You can tell Joe loves it too.
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video real true 👍 💯
We appreciate you so much man!
Amazing review Joe.
I am so glad that you like this one.
love the color match fender flares, and the wheels.
You have great taste Davonne!
Hi @RaitisRides! Big fan of the channel. One thing I can't seem to get any information is the hood scoop color. Some videos have a color keyed/matching scoop and others, like the one in this video, have a black scoop. Do you know which sport configuration comes with the black scoop? I know it's standard on the TRD pro but can't find any info on the TRD Sport. Many thanks!
Great review as always JR! Would you feel the cabin would be comfortable for a shorter driver at 5’4”? From what I understand, the seat also raises up for a better field of vision. And is there no front camera with the sport version? That seems odd.
When the time comes that I get over my 2021 Bronco, I might really consider this exact build with a manual!
Thanks Mike for sharing your thoughts on this one.
no don't get rid of the bronco!!
$41,000 isn't such a bad price when it comes with the keys to a BMW.
LOL you crack me up!
I see the SR model with a manual at the dealership marked up to $47k+ before taxes. Insane.
Looks great, picking up my 4th gen up next week.
Another Great Video!
Thanks for letting me share it with you Blaine!
Alright Joe let’s see if this Tacoma will be the winner here
Heck yeah brother
Was waiting on this truck until I found out no v6. I bought a blue crush 2023 SR5 2 weeks ago instead. Just not wild about 4cyl turbos after my experience with a Silverado Custom I owned.
Love that the manual is still available, but they messed up by not offering it in the Pre-Runner
This is so very true!
i tried to build on to see how much but its only showing auto trans saldy
Thanks for the video, very happy Toyota decided to keep it as an option, but wish it was available in the SR5. Any comments on how well the engine holds the truck back going down long hills? I live in a hilly area and one thing I love about my manual vehicles is that I can go down long hills without having to hit the brakes. Some engines do this better than others. Also what RPM is the engine at in 6th gear? Do you feel like it is geared correctly?
The 6 speed is also available in SR trim WITH 4x4.. that being said the price difference is only about $2800 less than TRD Off-road with 6 speed. So yes it’s cheaper but still gonna be over $40k out the door
I like the lines...can I spec with A/T tires?
The 1986 Toyota Pickup Turbo was offered in a myriad of engine options, this truck is equipped with the 2.4L SOHC turbocharged inline-4 engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Total power output is at 150hp along with 180 lb. ft of torque.
Wut
And that was a legit Hilux unlike the current Tacoma
It’s a 6 speed manual.
Thanks for sharing that intel.
Love all the trims for the Tacoma, I just hope this new engine last as long as the previous one.
There is basically no way. You are dealing with both turbos and hybrid battery nonsense. Adding TWO major points of complexity/failure there's almost no chance it's as reliable as the outgoing NA engines
@@The_Draque, multitudes of Toyota Prius with over 300k miles would like a word with you.
I guess only time will tell Omar!
Kind of a missed oportunity with this truck (IMO) as normally a pickup with a 4sp or more manual transmission the 1st gear is a "Granny Gear" extreme low ratio for rock crawling and or extreme hill climbing and normally on pavement you would start from a stop sign or stop light in 2nd gear. This would have been a truck to see how it does in those regards. Happy New Year to Joe, Lori and Steven and all here ! ✨🎉🎊
It will be interesting to see how it will sell.
Love that the TRD sport was able to handle that heavy gravel lot. Normally you have had to have the TRD OFF-ROAD to park somewhere like that!
LOL You are hilarious!
No question I'm super psyched for the 6 speed manual transmission - Thank you for the ride-along! As far as the turbo 4 goes, I'm good with it, just wish they would have kept the higher rev range that the automatic one gets to wind it out a bit more. I'll be hitting the rev limiter all the time till I can get adjusted.
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
This looks better than the new Tundra. It looks great!
Thank you for letting me share it with you!
Pricy and Nice but when is that "Stout" going to be built?
That 6 speed should be available on all trim levels.
Thanks Joe.
That is a very good point Dave!
Tell us more about the travel, engagement and stiffness of the clutch pedal. The shifter, is it short or long throw? How easy is it to heel and toe?
I think he did…. It is butter smooth, longer throws, precise and responsive…. The truck even helps you out to avoid stalling it….they’ve added some ‘manual automations to the manual’…:: watch his entire presentation and some more UA-cam content they explain and show everything
I did in the review!
Thank you for the assist.
Im surprised you didnt zonk the turn signal bulbs in front.
I let it slide on this one because of the trim
That is my favorite color! It looks like it got bigger! 🎉🎉
It did some!
Looks so nice
Great video! Love manual. Love Toyota. Love US made. I'm not in the market right now, but thanks for the show and tell. I like your comic spin. Everyone needs to know where to put their Twinkie's
Not US made, so sorry to hear. Made in Mexico

Are all of the hood scopes black or will they offer paint match?
They are all black.
It’s about time, there is a manual transmission in the truck. I wish there were SUV’s with manual transmission as well.
The Tacoma has always had a Manual Transmission, the Bronco and Wrangler are SUV's with Manuals too.
I still haven't seen is use air to air or air to water to innercool?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.
Will you be able to turn the truck on with your phone or key? On the manual, since it has the keyless start
No you can not.
Great to see another manual. For those complaining about no manual options, go out there and buy one new. Manufacturers are not offering them because people say they want but don't actually show up and buy them.
This is so very true! If you buy them they will build them.
We want leather seats and manual
Too funny dude haha. You sold me on the tacoma sport.
I was looking for a ranger / canyon / Colorado / frontier.
Don’t know about this.
A 4 cylinder and it gets under 20 mpg? Didn’t the old 6’s do better?
No they did not.
Rare to have pickup in this day and age with a manual rest of the competition all have automatics
You are so very right about that Matt!
@@RaitisRides hmmmm. Would a manual keep my teenage-learner’s hands off their cell phone?… that might be a sell for my wife. :)
Tic tac next to the steering wheel come in handy 😅
Joe I would love for you to do a review on the limited trim of of the Tacoma.
Sure will! Please stay tuned!
@@RaitisRidesalways Joe
I really like the manual...that's the one I want..😎
Raiti is hilarious. He said @ 10:17, “I was told that if you have 14 inches..” *1 second pause* and then continued “.. of screen” 😂
Does the rear windshield slide down??
No it does not
11:10 all those pleasant blanks buttons for TRD!
13:13 as well, it’s insane the amount of blanks
It’s not Tuesday but it’s taco day!
You are so right about David!
I love everything about this truck except the color. I have this on my short list to buy this month to replace my 2000 XLT that only has 130k miles.
when will these hit the dealer?
So glad toyota kept the manual in this truck. It'll be a few years at least, but this truck is at the top of my list just because it has a manual.
Hey, Joe happy holidays to you and your viewers, however how does this truck compared to the Nissan titan SV.???.
I guess they both have blacked out pieces but you can't really compare them because the tacoma is a mid size truck while the titan is a full size truck
Thanks for saying that. It actually doesn’t compare at all. Titan is a full-size and this is a midsize
Never will i ever pay over 40k for a small truck that only gets 18mpg. Manuals at least used to get you a little better mileage but those days are long gone it seems.
There will be a lot of dealers up charging the trucks MSRP Add another 4or5K to the price
Things are changing and prices just keep going up!
@@RaitisRides Agreed, but so should my mpg :) 18 seems like a regression to me.
This is a midsize truck. You'll have to wait till the Stout comes out or go for the Ford Maverick.
A power moonroof is available. It's part of the TRD Sport Premium Package.
You can actualy hear the turbo spool a tiny bit.. trd sport is deff what I’m getting. It’s all I can afford 😂..
Very cool man! I’m glad to that you like this one!
Great video once again. Since you’ve driven both, which is a better drive/ engine/ manual trans combination, the new Tacoma with the 6 speed manual or the new Bronco with the 7 speed manual and it’s 2.3 turbo 4cyl? Thanks again and keep on truckin’!
Can we get a Raiti’s “Retro” Review? I’m curious if you have any knowledge of the Centurion Classic, that did Conversion Vehicles. I can’t find any history on them, especially in regards to my GMC Centurion.
You got it man!
I missed the previous tail lights they could have mixed it up a little bit but they had to borrow the rear tail lights from Tundra now they look like twins seriously but it looks good in the front
I guess it is hard to get every part just right./
In my country, Trinidad and Tobago, it's the land of midsized 4x4s. The 3 heavy hitters are the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, and the Ford Ranger. Just imagine if you throw this Tacoma in the mix! It would sell like hot cakes, guaranteed!!
Oh wow! Thanks for sharing that!
Beautiful truck in a manual! Engine been around a few years and been solid.
They didnt give you a full screen with the reverse camera, there was still an inch or so worth of empty space at the top of that screen
It is close.
Manuel Transmission is Los Angeles 😂. Traffic is crazy here bumper to bumper.
nailed it!
I am so glad that you think so.
What a Great Mid size Truck.
I just ordered my 6 speed manual 😊 so excited!!
That is the way to do it!
I am Italian too lol
Enjoyed your video.
Had to laugh when you explained your Italian and that’s how you talk 😂 I can relate.
I just bought my Brother a t-shirt that said “I am not yelling, I am Italian”.
Did you notice any rev hang when shifting gears? Another YT reviewer did not recommend the MT version due to that, but I don't see you seeing that as an issue? I'm hesitant right now based on potential rev hang feature (due to emissions regulations).
Not at all. I think it comes down to user error.
@@RaitisRides Thanks - that's what I was hoping. Guess I'll put it back on shortlist to test drive!
Where the drivers door meets the front quarter panel the lighting or reflection makes it appear as if there's a dent or the exterior is warped. It's the same thing at the bed quarter panel near the decal and tail light. Toyota may have done too much exterior styling since it don't look right.
Maybe you will like it more in person.
Really? A burnout?? Great test drive…
Heck yeah! Thanks man!
I’m really like it. Not overboard with stupid TRD badging on every little thing. They didn’t go overboard with switches inside. Very very nice.
I totally agree with you!
That MPG is just not up to par Joe....I get the same on my v6 Frontier....which has made me very happy and glad I got it.
Great Reveiw Joe!! now just waiting on the reveiw of the hybrid engine choice. miss my tacomas. Did pick out some pilot parts on door panels and A-pillers. also guess they didn't want to let you show the JBL removable speaker in the dash. think toyota should have paint the white on doors and dash, body color. and you are correct about the grille color needs to be present.
Thanks Neal! Stay tuned for the upcoming hybrid reviews.
They gave us an obnoxious TV plopped on the dash haphazardly, at least they took the power driver seat though
They did make changes that is for sure John.
At least for a screen that big, it sits pretty low. But I think if you have 12 inches that would be considered enough. Right Joe?
I always have to come to Raiti's channel before buying a car. I watched like 10 of his videos for the WRX before buying mine. This might be the next ride.
Should I trade my ‘21 STI for one of these? I can’t afford both.
@@Harold.Richard Then the answer is no lol... Ride that bad boy til it's dead.
I have a 2006 Tacoma but automatic. If I buy another, it will be a manual. It's the best vehicle I've ever owned.
This midsize truck is considered full size truck in our country
Oh I bet it is!
Yes of course Joe and it's good for off-road.
I am so glad that you think so!
Nice truck
I’m so glad that you like this one
My last 2 trucks were Rangers with the last being a 2011 Sport V6. Just sold it with 175k miles because I inherited a 2013 Tacoma with 47k miles on it and a V6. I don't think I will buy a 4 cyl truck. Unfortunate Toyota took that route and some of us old school boys will not adjust well to that....my 2 cents...=)
I should have one by now
This is so very true!
Got to come to Houston, Texas📍
I totally agree!

There is no way 4cyl turbo engines will make it to a million miles. Especially the Turbo itself and that is very expensive on its own. I think an optional V6 would have a better choice.
I guess we will have to wait and see.
6 speed manual works for me with a 4 cylinder turbo.
I am glad that you are digging this one.
Came for the truck review, stayed for the food references 😹
Yeah it's nice of Toyota to include a 6MT ... though remember the Corolla hatchback? from a couple of years ago also with a 6MT but quicker than you can say Corolla the 6MT became extinct ... let's hope this doesn't happen with the Tacoma. I've driven manuals for 5 decades now and perfectly fine with them ... but then again ... sometimes trying to convince the wifey to buy a 6MT is like pulling teeth ...some example phrases "what do you need that for?????" ... "I can't drive it" ... and so on and so forth until the cows come home ... Thank You both for the review .. Keith Chicago IL
Let me add this about the 4cyl ... I've owned Toyota pickups in the past which had the 20R /22R engine and those were rough and coarse (tractor-like?) ... I haven't driven a '24 yet so I hope Toyota has done some work on the NVH levels which were quite high in previous trucks ... 5500 RPM redline doesn't really do much for me ... harrumph ... even my Honda Ridgeline with the J35Y6 zings to 6800RPM and smooth as butter while doing it
Why are the rear seats so small?! Also with the 2024 you’re no longer able to get leather seats with the manual transmission..
Hopefully Toyota figured out how to keep a head gasket in this engine. I got 235k miles out of my 13 until the head gasket went. That was an expensive fix. I did it myself 40+ hours labor.
Nice truck at a decent price too. Always love the manual but its sad they will soon be like dinosaurs.
Sadly we never get to buy these cool pickups in Japan.
That is crazy!
