@@thomasmk6 you’re 100% right. My gti makes 500whp with turbo/fueling/tune.
However it will never sound near as good as a daza. So for that reason alone i understand the swap
@@joshcaldro6169 I’ve seen some video of someone talking about doing this swap... i don’t see how tommy would have the time to sort out all of the wiring , this is not a 90s car so definitely gonna be interesting to see how this goes

Rear halidex needs a service that's why it's spinning the front there is a mesh filter in the rear unit that never gets cleaned and gets blocked causing the 4wd to struggle
I have a Golf R as well and love it, Few tips
1. Launch control requires Sports Mode + Traction control off (Make sure to hold it for 5 seconds or so, until you see the icon popup) Then foot on brake + foot on accelerator.
2. If front wheels are spinning (and car is stock) Usually indicates the DSG needs a service as it shouldn't really be spinning stock.
DO YOUR DSG SERVICE, it will ruin your transmission if you miss a service. Not even exaggerating, they are amazing Transmissions but my shop replaces the mechatronic units all the time because people dont do the service intervals and its not cheap.

Only the 3.7 vr6 is competitive to the 5cyl when worked.
The swap is nearly pointless when he already has the rs3 ..... it's like swapping from a Jetta to a golf..... why even ?

Just finished up the Smoking Tire Podcast, amazing timing.
I'm glad you made this happen. I was commenting that you should do a DAZA swap in an R since you drove Collete's TTRS.
Also, pretty funny coincidence is I was watching Kevin Hannon's videos a couple weeks ago cause he made a tutorial on how to install an OEM accessory subwoofer in my MK7 GTI. His R was also featured on the ShopDAP (popular VW parts shop) channel around the same time. Then just browsing his channel, I saw he was at the Lime Rock track day with you guys and also worked with Innovative Motorsports.
These MQB cars have some crazy potential. I'm a JDM guy at heart but I love my GTI. Down the line, I'd love to have a DAZA swapped R, maybe with a manual.

I love that cause of Tommys team, the build on this won't take long, and will look good at the same time... And some of the aftermarket parts avaialable for both cars are pretty awesome

500 on stock engine are you on crack cocaine they shoot a rod through a block at 400 horsepower. The inline 5 is good for low to mid 500s though.

i just sold my golf R for an RS3
In order to get into proper launch control, you got to hold the esc button down until you hear a 2nd beep which means all full traction off. Gearbox needs to be in either S mode or S manual. Then you need to press the brake hard in order to activate launch control.
Collete's car should be making around 460-480whp and around 620nm.
As a GTi owner and 5cyl fan Im so damn hyped to see where this goes.

I’m all for seeing a DAZA swapped Golf R, but I hope you’re prepared for the coding that comes along with it. That’s a major downside to doing swaps on MQB platform cars, is the electronic coding that goes along with it. These aren’t like the Mk4 days. There’s a fella on the forms that just finished his DAZA swap. I’ll see if I can find his info and post it in the reply or edit this comment. Just so you have a point of reference if you end up struggling with anything.

Super stoked on this. I picked up a Mk7 GTI for a daily and did downpipe and tune and it's a blast for getting around every day comfortably with a kid in the back seat.
I’m F N stoked as F for this build . I love this idea and if there’s anyone who will pull this off it’s you .

One thing I've heard on the 2.5tfsi motor is the swap goes in easy along with all the drivetrain from the rs3 but it's the wiring that is difficult to make happy with all the golf components. I can't wait for this project on the channel haha definitely stoked
That’s the exact VW I’ve been looking for. Limestone Grey 2016+ R; stick though. Just a Cobb AccessPort and EQT tune and they roll out.

My ‘16 R was fun but the car begs for more suspension adjustment. Ohlins Road and Track coils, SuperPro camber plates, SuperPro positive caster control arms, front and rear sways along with the S3 Audi aluminum subframe completely transformed the car. Was stock turbo Full E85 with methanol on Accessport (which now sucks because of cobbs new green speed update). No idea the power it was making but it ran 11.2 in the quarter.
This is crazy. From jdm space guy to vag space guy 😂😂 was gonna say just stage 2 the golf and it will beat the M2 and then you ended with an RS3. Can’t wait to see the build 🔥🔥🔥🙌🏽
it needs to be in sport with Tc off for it to enable Launch control. When it's in drive pull the shifter down into drive and it swaps into sport. Go to a stop mash the brake start hitting throttle and the launch control program will come up on the dash. My modified Sport Wagen eats most similar Cars light to light

I have a facelift version of the Golf R, for launch u need to put it in race. Press and hold the traction till its off. Push the brake in give 10% throttle untill it says launch ready and then press the gass fully in and release the brake

Yes they do have kits for a swap with the 5 cylinder ttrs/rs3 into a gti/r 👍👍👍, oh by the way you can tune and mod those engines to 600hp.
Hell yeah, mk7.5 gti owner here and this makes me so happy. Although, the 2.0T EA888 that's in the golf is more than capable to be damn fast plus its actually designed by Audi anyway. 5 Cylinder Audi is infectous though, sound amazing.
I'm a huge JDM guy from Europe but my family always drove VW's and as a kid I fell in love with gti's, cupras and s3's especially PQ34 cars. Seeing you do this build makes me super happy and it finally will shed more light on these cars.

ooooohhh MK7 R gang. gonna be sweet with the 5 cylinder in it. Mine with the built 2.0 and a hybrid turbo rips, but that DAZA will decimate all at Race Wars lol
I can respect the Golf R's. This mostly Subaru channel I follow called Smeedia had either a 16 or 18 for about a month a little while ago, drove it maybe 1000 miles before the engine grenaded from some form of neglect from the dealership he bought it from. I forget the specifics but I think one of the spark plugs broke inside the engine & pinballed around in there. It was quick released after.
Dude isn't exactly fyeahspec but he has attention to detail & does his own work to a pretty high standard. He currently has a 22 BRZ, an Evo 8 project, and the flagship is a 17 STI with a big turbo eg33 swap shooting for 1000hp that he pretty much did himself aside from fab work.
Now with this content I love Tommy even more!

Launch Control: Traction off all the way. Press and hold for 5 seconds. Auto start stop off, if a feature. Transmission needs to be in manual mode or sport shifting. Drive control needs to by in dynamic or sport. Press the brake to the FLOOR. You will feel the “end stop” of the pedal. Hold the gas down and the screen will tell you “Launch Control Active”

Starting off a audi/vw guy i just got my first jdm car for the sole purpose of drifting. I have a b7 a4 quattro (torsion 50/50) 2.7 swapped making 450 hp. This project literally makes me so happy to see the con boys adventuring into some proper VAG Cars

It has to be on level ground and warmed up with traction control off brake all the way to floor then gas all the way to floor

i have a mk7 gti and the golf r has the is38 turbo and you can get 500 hp out of that easy with a e85 or a 93 tune
there is a company in Connecticut that does that swap. you may need to reach out to them about the wiring harness. everything can swap out like gas tank, diff, brakes and everything under the hood.

Sport mode traction control off foot on brake and gas and launch control should work at least that’s how it is with my mk6 you might have to let go of the gas if it doesn’t work at first but then just floor it again with foot on brake and it’ll work also if shifter has the S put it in that

It’s about time, this platform is amazing! With a BT, rods and WMI you can hit 500hp all day with that engine alone but the RS engine is insane. Just pricy for what you’re getting.

I have a 15’ golf r IE stage 2 just under 400hp. You don’t need to swap for the 5 cylinder for 500 hp, garret makes a direct fit turbo and you can make over 500, less work and probably cheaper. By the way huge fan.

The rs3 swap is common in the uk because your going from a 4 cylinder in the golf r to a 5 cylinder in the rs3 and they can make some serious power

2.0 tsi. Ea888, pretty nice. I'm building a 07k 2.5l 5.cyl. if you swap the 2.5l tfsi from a ttrs or rs 3 that'll be nice. The motors are pretty pricey.
There's a shop that will do the swap if you provide the car. But it's alot and your gonna have to do alot to get it to work.
