First of, that is one killer design combo! Reminds me of Prince's Mad Cat. I think the St Vincent is one of the nicest guitar designs to have been created in a long time. While every one is creating standard strat/tele/les paul like shapes, its really refreshing to see Ernie Ball/Sterling actually approving this design and making it commercially viable!
Looks like a really cool take on a firebird shape and the contouring is gorgeous. Only thing I feel that doesn't match is the signature Ernie Ball/Sterling headstock, which I'm not a fan of. Always feels a bit like a pin-head.

4:45 absolutely. as a girl, when something typically male-dominated is changed to target me, it turns me off immediately. i don't need some strange female version of something to enjoy it. as a girl who's interested in coding, I felt this quite a bit when I would see girl-only coding classes. they'd do face masks and goof off as if that was necessary for girls. it was very patronizing and uncomfortable to see, even if they meant the best.

    • @pantsumancer
      @pantsumancer 4 роки тому +4

that's super interesting. i was only interested in the guitar because annie clark designed it to fit more to a feminine/female body type. i struggle a lot with larger body guitars, and i hadn't found one i really liked until this one. i haven't seen much marketing for it outside of interviews with her and a few demos, and there are (disappointingly) only a few reviews that seem to exist from women who own this guitar. oh well

I actually looked at getting the St. Vincent signature a few years ago. However, because I had the money at the time, I went with a Gretsch White Panther guitar. Everyone asks me do I regret spending the amount of money I did in it. My answer is always the same "No." It is still the guitar I play the most. The St. Vincent is still on my list.

I think the bright clean tones of the mini humbuckers would make this a great guitar for ambient music and a badass blues guitar.
I can imagine it doing lots of other things besides the kind of music that St Vincent uses it for. Maybe not metal, but there are guitar heroes who play metal on a Strat.

    • @LukeJLB

Exactly the same story over here. I was set to pay $450 USD for a new one. I bid on a used one, but the shop had already sold it and offered to sell me a new one for the same price. Then it arrived with a bit of the paint on the back damaged due to a pickup screw puncturing through the body, and I got another $50 off. They have some quality control issues that seem to be mostly cosmetic, but for lower-budget guitarists, that just means you can often get them cheaper than regular retail pricing.
And my god, these guitars are just inspiring to play. If anyone reading this is interested in the guitar but can't (like most of us, I imagine) justify spending $2,500 on a guitar, look for the Sterling model and look for a deal on it. After owning an Epiphone SG, an Ibanez semi-hollow, and a Fender MiM semi-hollow Tele with P90's, this was the instrument that got me excited to play again after years of waning inspiration.

The variety that I have played, while maybe a little bit neck heavy, had wonderfully light bodies, and I thought they were rather warm, but I honestly have not put them up next to humbuckers on a Les Paul for example.
I really love the color scheme on this and noticed right off the bat when you first showed it, even the knobs are leopard pattern! While I somehow doubt this was a guitar that Mary will ever like to part with ... if you did oh, I would absolutely be interested. I wonder what I have we might trade to play!?

I'm assuming the pickup switch sequence is the same unusual one as my Sterling version, that is, from neck to bridge:
    Position 1: Neck + Bridge
Position 2: Neck, Middle + Bridge
    Position 3: Neck
    Position 4: Middle
    Position 5: Bridge
Odd, but good to have the neck + bridge option which many three pickup guitars don't have.

My wife bought the cherry version of this guitar fitted with gold parts - the orange and fluorescent versions were not available at that time.
The neck is the best that i have ever played and the pickups with their wiring give a real variety of sounds.
That guitar is probably the most versatile in our collection.
However i have a duff left arm and can’t play this guitar while standing as the neck sticks out too far for me. it’s no problem playing sat dow.
So I bought the Albert Lee HH guitar which has exactly the same all rosewood neck and that is dead comfortable. I bought the SSS version too though that has a maple neck and board with the same carve and wax and oil finish.
What I really want is the Albert Lee fitted with the mini humbuckers and wiring from the St Vincent. EBMM are you listening?
The trem stays in tune perfectly and the production quality is consistently high. I’ve bought 6 EBMM guitars now and they are all great.
    Very highly recommended.

Never seen a guitar like this, I like that the cuts are designed to ease playing, and those fret markers are very cool (can't imagine the time it required to make those precise cuts). Next time you show something so weird and unique, please show the back of the guitar, I am now more curious about the whole thing just because I didn't see the back

Probably cut the routes on the fretboard (& the inlays themselves) with a CNC machine, inlayed them before radiusing & fretting

Does anyone know what happened to the red versions of these guitars? They aren't on the music man website anymore, but I think they look FANTASTIC with the gold hardware.

God, that’s literally my dream/holy grail guitar. Unfortunate I’ll probably never even see one in person :(
Great video as always Mary! ❤️

Azazel Yes it is, but the chance of one of the orange & leopard print ones being listed is incredibly low.

I recently got a Sterling by Music Man guitar and was incredibly surprised by the quality and feel of the instrument, other guitars don't feel the same anymore. Can't wait to get a Music Man!

I love the St. Vincent signature. Can't afford one but hopefully one day. I'm hopeful they bring back the color I wanted which is Red Heritage (was shown in this video). Pre Covid made frequent stops at my local guitar center to play a model.

Love the orange and leopard skin pickguard. Would prefer natural finish on neck though.

I almost picked one up at a Guitar Center when I went to take a look at a fender meteora... didn't have the time to do both, but I'm surely going to go back and mess around with it a bit! I particularly like the one you have because if it's hot orange color... and that leopard pickguard is just awesome! go it might ruin the guitar in some ways to remove the paint off the back of that neck, I'd sure be curious... though I probably would never do it! love the shape and I would rock that guitar anywhere! 😎🎸🎹🤘🐦

I loved the design, but, hesitated due to the pricetag. I tried the more budget Sterling by Music Man, but at the start of 2022 I got my hands on a secondhand St Vincent in blue and it is a fabulous guitar! The Sterling is nice, but the Music Man is in a league of its own. Became my absolute number one guitar ever since. It works for Rock, Funk, New Wave and even jazzier tones, once you switch to the neck pickup and roll back the tone.
I do envy you for that campy orange/fur piece, but then again: yes, simply the shape alone makes you feel like a total badass rockstar!!!
