      Actually, this is one of the most commonly used (and most efficient) ways to studying pieces of music. You focus on a passage, deconstruct it to its most basic form, and gradually add elements as you get more comfortable with the simple forms, until you are finally able to play the original passage :)

    Reminds me of many years ago when my son was only a few years old constantly tugging at my leg asking questions and talking to me and me answering him while jamming with friends. They all used to ask me how I did it. Listening to him, and talking to him and in general paying attention to him all while playing and singing in between. Guess you just get REALLY good at multitasking as a musician/parent. Great video Mary. Great song and a sad loss of the performer of a such an iconic song.

    • @timhess6720
      @timhess6720 4 роки тому +1

      @@lofr8982 Well, no, because that would just be weird to say I'm attracted to my mom. Haha. What I meant was watching her talk and explain the process while still playing. You can sometimes see the blank glossed over look in her eyes while she is multitasking and she is speaking slower than usual thinking what she wants to say next while still playing. Her mind appears to be near overload, but, she's doing and awesome job at it and I can relate. Mary is doing a great job! I know a few musicians who can teach, play, or sing, but, in no way can do any two of them at the same time. Just one at a time. My post was meant to be a complement to Mary.

    you are pretty damn good, coming from a man who lives in new orleans and has been playing since 1982 it may mean a little. the most impresive part is that you actually sing your ass off while you are playing pretty damn good and thats not particularly easy. it takes tons of practice to get where you are keep it up.

    Mary!!! When you did the 'bit more aggressive' version and then came in with the "I know, I know, I know..." I literally got goosebumbs!!! Well done!

      Shoulda just copied the strat style like every other company. That was because of Paul’s hubris. Guarantee! He wouldn’t budge on the PRS headstock being his shape. Stupid move that cost him money like most decisions based in pride. The official explanation was for copyright reasons yet Suhr and every other company make almost 1:1 strat copies with apparently no issues. Dude is a walking sack.

      I like the PRS headstock better than the fender! I still do a double take, but it belongs on great sounding guitars.

      @@stevescuba1978 No Problem, I like the PRS headstock, but after spending decades with Fender guitars it still looks "out of place" to me.

    Such a wonderful lesson - could I beg you for more that follow this style of teaching? I am struggling with how to blend chords and a bit of soloing to create this fuller sound, and this was really interesting and super helpful. Thanks! You're great!
