I can see why Steve wanted to work on this when he heard what Rebb was planning. This is such a huge shift in Warframe, but still feels like it will fit well with the current game and continues to expand on the lore and story. So exciting!
It definitely carries Reb's inspiration from things like Jojo, Castlevania, Devil May Cry, and, well, Dark Sector and Warframe. The team nailed the aesthetic that we know lives rent free in her head. The way it all seemlessly connects to the existing lore, while giving us a retconned version of Dark Sector, all while granting us a fresh look at a more expanded Warframe universe and the gaps between.. so good.
I'm so glad Steve and Scott aren't working on this, though. For reasons we're all familiar with. Everyone is happier with them working on Soulframe, so let's hope they stay over there while Reb and the rest of the team continue knocking it out of the park with this amazing work.

My personal theory is that this 1999 is more or less Albretch's Duviri. An alternate universe he manifested into existence after encountering Wally, possibly based on his memories of old Earth.
They don't push us for it, but I just wanna chime in that these are the people you want to support with your wallet if you want to see a change in todays greedy gaming industry. Only the creative brilliance of the minds at Digital Extremes could put space-age magitech, a magical grimoire, gilded architecture reminiscent of bygone eras, and an old CRT computer monitor in the same scene, and have it make complete and utter sense. Yet another year where I'm thrilled beyond description for whatever you lot are cooking up back there!
Calling such a computer a 'relic' speaks volumes too. Basically confirms Origin is either our deep future, or 'Wally'brecht has broken through time-space into our universe. The former seems more correct considering the computer's existence, but I'm curious about the existence of our 1999 heroes...
@@LordLOC We don't have fulll sense of things. But once you realize Multiverses are a deal in Warframe, you start to put things together quicker. And then when it comes to actual game modes and gameplay... Here's the same mission you've been doing for 10 years with a minor variation to call it "new".
Never in my life did I think that I'd ever find myself asking "What are the lore and timeline implications of Y2K on the Warframe story?" But yet here we are
Also what are the lore implications that the AK exists, meaning warframe's timeline does match our timeline at least until 1940s-1950s, or is at least very similar.
@@villepore7013 Well dark sector is based in modern humanity, isn't it? Couldn't this just be a alternate timeline/universe via void/eternalism. pager is really the biggest WTF, we know that Origin System is our system but probably millenia in the future, so why is Grandpa so "obsessed" in 90's tech? Maybe was transported there by the Void in his first travel, or maybe he is originally from our times?
@@kahtyman7293perhaps Wally is kickstarting this whole mess of Infection in the first place This probably the start of how all things happen(infection start) Perhaps it like a paradox but a paradox paradox
With Warframe 1999, im guessing it serves as both the origins of the Technocyte virus that would become the Infested, and as an unofficial reboot to Dark Sector. Regardless, this, but mostly the Whispering in the Walls, has me really interested in the game's future.
I think Warframes 1999 could be simply a construct created by master Entrati using the power of the void just like how drifter create the kingdom of duviri. the only different is like Duviri is based on a book, 1999 is from an old computer (and a flip phone, i love the flip phone) and maybe have some old files like picture, music and game (maybe even the internet) during that era that was once lost during the radiation war, If i were master Entrati i'll too turn into a super 90s western fanboy after finding such timeless relic. (pun intended) edit: If your comment is true, then it could mean 4 things - The origin system is so stagnate and only when the gear start moving is where the tenno waking up, the grineer is no longer an ally, and alad v start selling stocks. - Technocyte virus has been around more than we thought and likely that's how the orokin empire found dead zombies wearing warframe like nanosuit in the first place. (and also responsible for waking up the surviving infested and resume plague the system while the necromech held them at bay) - Ballas is a copyright fraud, he did not create warframes, he simply reverse engineered it and failed. (no wonder Magulis took her own life for some kids she doesnt even knew then with him) - The Man in the wall has already kept an eye on us even before the new age of the spacefaring orokin empire.

Can we please recognize that segue from one update to another? For a moment, I felt like I wasn't watching Warframe anymore but instead Digital Extremes had jumped the shark. I'm all aboard for this ride!
I think it's because Reb is more focused on the story while Steve likes to see what new things they can add to the game. That's why the story was so fragmented back then
Loved the serious 'Dune' (2021) vibes at the opening! I could almost see the 'dreams are messages from the deep' subtitles. I recall Albrecht Entrati expressing some concern that it wasn't he who escaped the Void, but 'the Other.' Seems he may have been right.
It's completely surreal to hear Into the Void in the game that was with me for 10 years, especially when this track was with me during the hard 3 years when I had to work on a job that I hated with all my heart. I remember The Fragile was playing almost every day on repeat and surprisingly Into the Void would be playing at the start of my 1-hour ride on the metro to get to the job. @@muhammadshaheer2912 if you look at the portraits you can get at the zariman he is the researcher who found a way to travel to the void. my guess is that he got possessed or corrupted (yup) by the man in the wall. he was trying to find something after all, which is why loid construct said his master abandoned a cause so now we are trying to finish it. I just noticed that at the end the date on the computer is "Dec 31, 1999 12:55 PM" and at the scene where (i presume it is Albrech Entrati) Dr. Entrati is walking down the stairs there is a clock on the background at 11:59. At this moment an audio countdown starts from 10 to 1 and when the clock strikes midnight the people counting shout "Happy new year" (the same frase that Rebecca asked for the people at the con to shout). So i supose this is where that Audio is going. Now a theory that I have is that it appears to be that Dr. Entrati have a plan of some kind that will happen at the moment the year turn from 1999 to 2000 and since the new enemies appear to be made out of computers i think that it is related to the Y2K Bug (I don't know if this is the name because in my language the name is "bug do milenio" and the translation for that would be the bug of the millennium).
And by the very stringy texture of flesh that the new enemies are made out of and are connected to the computers, I think the Y2K Bug is a VERY ancient (or in 1999's case very early) strain of the Infestation.
This would explain the bug that caused the infested to exist and or even the man in the wall to exist too...hm I am excited to where this new lore takes us!
I am just absolutely loving the 1999 infested- The technocytes? The technocytes are just aesthetic- Mashing together technology too old to digest, like a framework of spare parts held together by flesh. It's like it's modern day infestation but with an entirely different feel, and I love it.
Allright theory time, I think the guy that wears the cap, is Man in the Wall but he shaped himself as Albrecht Entrati or maybe he corrupted Albrecht. You can see that old human Loid got sad because of the farewell at 2:41 .Considering the teaser and Entrati Archieves, Albrecht tried to escape from him to avoid his meetings but he couldn’t. In the teaser, he was not sure who escaped. This means that man in the wall is in Albrecht’s shape morphologically. As for the the human voice at 26:10 , it is the same with Albrecht from Entrati Archives. And that sentence is so tragic because “you are late” means that Man in the Wall had already got him long way before Arthur found him in the end. Demonic facial expressions and creepy voices that we heard during New War Quest before proves that. Also man in the wall seems that he is not only the creator of the Tenno but also Warframes. Arthur looks like Excaliburs’ human prototype and also Excalibur was King Arthur’s sword. I really wonder what he said by whispering quitely to loid. It also represents the name of the expansion.
Albrecht Entrati and the Man in the Wall may truly be inseparable entities by now, as it was implied that the void was formless until Albrecht breached the membrane, whereupon it took his form. Even Albrecht himself never was fully convinced he escaped the void, and not the other. But we also have to remember that Eternalism is a thing, which is a take on multiverse theory all its own. Who knows if we are in the past, or an entirely different universe. And every universe is implied to be connected through the void. Also, one correction: we know the Tenno got their powers from a "deal with the devil", the Man in the Wall himself, while onboard the Zariman. We also know that Ballas created the warframes, not Wally. But again, with Eternalism, we don't know if this sequence of events is true in another universe.
@@spamhere1123Eternalism is definitely hurting people's brains here lol. I am still trying to wrap my head around it. We could be looking at a mixture of space (Universe) and time (Past) travel too as far as the 'location' of 1999. Another Universe's past, kinda like how when we're in Duviri we're technically playing an earlier event gameplay wise.
Yup, it can't really be Albrecht, he looks quite different than any of his depictions in the game so far and he has all of his fingers, his vision and voice is all intact (he lost them during the void accident). One way to explain it would be Continuity (switching bodies using Kuva), but Albrecht swore to never do so out of the fear that the one who escaped the void was not him but the other. So yeah, it's probably some void manifestation of the man in the wall.
And also interesting that human Loid smashed Albrecht's "coffin" (i don't know how to name this pod other way) with this mace-like thing, and then, when we open it, he's coming out of it, not Albrecht and his kitty.
The quiet "What?" at 26:23 is sending me. I am not sure if thats someone from the audience being understandably bewildered or if I am misshearing something from the trailer audio, but I was like "Same."
But notice that at 20:13, Loid also says that in Dr.Entrati's grimoire that the "Tenno are the key". Both of these quests are going to be good ones to play, they've definitely got me invested
This looks super dope, however... :) I'm getting Huge Dark Sector vibes from 1999. Id jump back into the game to play this out. I hope more comes from this appoach of story telling and timeline branching!
If they are smart and got the resources then they can basicly introduce full price stand alone "modules" into warframe that allow you to play through certain events from the past(or the future) based on warframe lore. Some mix of Assassins Creed and Half-Life. They could basicly use Warframe as some game hub for a "Metaverse"...similar to what Star Citizen tries to achieve...or Blizzard tried with their cancelled "Titan".
Warframe will be forever my favorite game of all time. I don't know how many times this game brought me to tears already because I feel the whole story on a personal level, truly. what an amazing Studio. DE you are the real MVPs.
I see DE is embracing the cosmic horror side to the game, and i am here for it, also GAWD DAMN how tf is 1999 gonna play into all of this? Is it a prequel/the past? Another alternate timeline?
I think it kinda is prequel, in that it'll explain the origins of the technocyte virus and how it got from the dark sector timeline into the orokin empire/origin timeline.
My theory is that since Duviri was created from a children's story book, maybe the 1999 world was created in a similar matter. By who or from what, time will tell.
I think he says "Who would have come back alone? You shouldn't have come back alone." Seems to addressing entrati about leaving the doppelganger behind instead of integrating it into himself.
Love that we are getting larger scale enemies, was hoping for more integration between current systems and modes though. 1999 looks interesting can't w8 to see how it ties into the world and lore. GL & GG DE I'm rooting for some good updates 👏 👍

I am very much in a love hate relationship with Warframe. All of the content they keep adding is awesome, but that content exists in their own bubbles with little to no explanation of how it works. Nothing feeds into each other and nothing is really explained to the frustration of both newbies and returning veterans. I do not have as much time to game and whenever I attempt to get back into Warframe, it is frustrating to play.
I've loved this game for a while now, but to get a song from my favorite band to perfectly blend a cinematic into one of the most wild reveals for the game yet was just incredible. 10/10.
every tennocon is hype as hell and blows me away. and every year i go they cant top last year no way. and without fail every tennocon reveal has been more hype and wild then the previous.
Knowledge is a powerful weapon indeed. As a 10 year Warframe veteran player who been playing since its launch, i'm still amazed DE still expanding the lore of Warframe.
I always said that I would stick to this game to the end to see what kind of whacky stuff DE would come up with. I'm not sure I could have ever predicted a humanized Excalibur mowing down CRT monitor zombies with an AK.
And all to the soundtrack of Nine Inch Nails no less (And this being after a few minutes of cosmic eldritch horror). Just when you think the wild ride is over, along comes something else.
Warframe continues to be the ONLY game i get so hyped for something i NEVER anticipated or could even think of in my wildest imaginations. I love every wacky update they make and i’ll play this game for as long as it breathes!
Poetic justice to see everyone's love and appreciation for the reimagined DS, against all odds and especially against the investors who sabotaged it initially. Well done DE! Well done!
26:07 the fact that they used the crowd countdown they did during tennolive before showing this segmant in Tennocon is crazy, it matches exactly the new year shown in the time behind !! That's crazy They also shown the fact that it's 31 december in the pc Arthur went through went he got the vocal message from his peer, attention to detail is immaculate !
They up-ed the ax-52 fire rate. Must have noticed how every one immediately switched to sword. I really hope we can’t bring our speed frames and room nukes, they seem to want to bring back peak gameplay.
The fact this is a free to play game, we have to admit it has to be one of THE BEST Free To Play games of all time. The always expanding story, the always improving work on characters and game flow. GRAPHICS LIKE THAT??? In a F2P game? It just goes to show, if creators have a plan and want to make a good game, they can. This update whenever it drops and Warframe 1999 which personally I'm way more hyped for, will change the game. It finally feels, like warframe is something bigger than a story about flying Ninjas in our solar system in a different reality. This makes the game feel like an ever expanding universe with much more yet to come to tell us. Can't wait for what's to come to warframe in upcoming years.
The language on the posters and exit signs and graffiti points to this being a different universe as opposed, like maybe the whole warframe universe is an alternate reality as opposed to a distant future
I have just noticed that when in the great indifference if you look at it upside down it seems correct and at one point even seems like there is a city in the background
We've come such a long way Tenno. In game and as a community, let's keep the Warframe dream alive. This game deserves so much more recognition for what it already delivered. Thank you all for thousands of hours of endless peril, strenuous missions and glorious victories. Thank you all.
Thanks to Eternalism… Both realities of, Albretch managed to escape, and Albretch didn’t escaped are both equally real We’re possibly still in the reality where Albretch managed to escape, but 1999 is possibly the reality where *The Other* was the one who got out
I've been playing Warframe since 2013, I became a Founder because I genuinely believed that with the right people, this game could become a massive success. Man, do I love being proven right. There is nothing quite like Warframe, DE have successfully created their own niche within a genre, and they are executing it to a tee. Sure, not everything has gone smoothly, and not everything has worked out. But DE has always listened to feedback and actually done something with it. I remember being absolutely being blown away by the Plains of Eidolon reveal at TennoCon 2017, and this TennoCon managed to achieve the same feeling for me. Massive feelings of joy, pride, excitement, and curiosity. The wish to explore. The sense of a grand adventure being right around the corner. I don't want to discredit anyone in the team, as everyone does amazing work, but I do genuinely believe that without Steve Sinclair continuously pushing the boundaries of the engine, Warframe wouldn't have made it as far. The SoulFrame showcase and the new lighting showcased in the Entrati Tileset perfectly showcase this. Thank you, DE, for a decade of amazing experiences. Here's to a decade more!

Yup the under chin scratches and then the petting and following the cat's tail as they turn around. Definitely a cat person who animated that
Only the creative brilliance of the minds at Digital Extremes could put space-age magitech, a magical grimoire, gilded architecture reminiscent of bygone eras, and an old CRT computer monitor in the same scene, and have it make complete and utter sense.
I'm glad you could make sense of this, I was completely lost lol
I wouldn't say it makes sense RIGHT NOW, but it certainly fits Warframe xD
@@LordLOC We don't have fulll sense of things. But once you realize Multiverses are a deal in Warframe, you start to put things together quicker. The problem is, most people have trouble thinking on a 4th dimension (Time Travel), asking them to comprehend 5th+ Dimensional Travel is just asking for trouble.
Technocyte virus exists in this timeframe in Dark Sector but in Orokin universe it was developed much later along with the Helminth strain that creates warframes.
I love this! The second I saw entrati’s hat, I KNEW something was up. It was way too… contemporary. And then the flip phone… and then the computer. Also: notice the train that nearly hits the Tenno in the lab.

@@kahtyman7293 I think he got travelled there by the Man in the Wall
With Warframe 1999, im guessing it serves as both the origins of the Technocyte virus that would become the Infested, and as an unofficial reboot to Dark Sector.
Regardless, this, but mostly the Whispering in the Walls, has me really interested in the game's future.
Oh man... Are they really finally making Dark Sector officialy canon?
I think Warframes 1999 could be simply a construct created by master Entrati using the power of the void just like how drifter create the kingdom of duviri.
the only different is like Duviri is based on a book, 1999 is from an old computer (and a flip phone, i love the flip phone) and maybe have some old files like picture, music and game (maybe even the internet) during that era that was once lost during the radiation war, If i were master Entrati i'll too turn into a super 90s western fanboy after finding such timeless relic. (pun intended)
edit: If your comment is true, then it could mean 4 things
- The origin system is so stagnate and only when the gear start moving is where the tenno waking up, the grineer is no longer an ally, and alad v start selling stocks.
- Technocyte virus has been around more than we thought and likely that's how the orokin empire found dead zombies wearing warframe like nanosuit in the first place. (and also responsible for waking up the surviving infested and resume plague the system while the necromech held them at bay)
- Ballas is a copyright fraud, he did not create warframes, he simply reverse engineered it and failed. (no wonder Magulis took her own life for some kids she doesnt even knew then with him)
- The Man in the wall has already kept an eye on us even before the new age of the spacefaring orokin empire.

What having no greedy publisher or CEO does to a studio is exactly this. DE has done so much in letting their workforce's passion write the games they make.
Let your creators create, they will flourish and your content may thrive.

Honestly, I think they jumped the shark the moment they came up with new war and duviri, and now they're jumping progressively bigger sharks

😅
It's completely surreal to hear Into the Void in the game that was with me for 10 years, especially when this track was with me during the hard 3 years when I had to work on a job that I hated with all my heart. THEY GOT FREAKIN' NINE INCH NAILS FOR A STORY SET IN THE 90s THIS CAN'T GET ANY BETTER
And the song is “INTO THE VOID” and it released in 1999. Freaking perfection!
Entrati have a plan of some kind that will happen at the moment the year turn from 1999 to 2000
and since the new enemies appear to be made out of computers i think that it is related to the Y2K Bug (I don't know if this is the name because in my language the name is "bug do milenio" and the translation for that would be the bug of the millennium).
And by the very stringy texture of flesh that the new enemies are made out of and are connected to the computers, I think the Y2K Bug is a VERY ancient (or in 1999's case very early) strain of the Infestation.
isso ai... ainda muito confuso quando Wf99 se passa, antes, depois, durante os orokin....
good catch!
I remember the Y2K scare lmao.

I want to say I have high expectations, but that would require that I understand what I just watched. Looks good!

Every single minute of this presentation gave me chills, the atmosphere is so surreal, this is easily going to become my favorite content
Also the moment Aoi talk about finding Entrati, you can hear a Mag Pull sound
Perhaps Aoi is Mag
Mind blowing. So many questions!
Warframe wild as hell. Always been weird. Love it for that though.

Warframe sure has come a LONG way from the beginning. Super cool to see the journey
If you listen closely at 20:50 I think I can hear: "Give me the key Tenno."

Omg yeah you can, how did I not notice this when I was watching on the stream
either that or "You are the key..."
But notice that at 20:13, Loid also says that in Dr.Entrati's grimoire that the "Tenno are the key". Both of these quests are going to be good ones to play, they've definitely got me invested
GOOD CATCH!
This looks super dope, however... :)
I'm getting Huge Dark Sector vibes from 1999.
I have a sneaking suspicion it's the past of some of the frames - notice how the excalibur like dude is literally called Arthur

Warframes narrative is on par with no other game. Its consistently evolving, fresh and original. This is why Warframe survives.

Knowledge is a powerful weapon indeed. As a 10 year Warframe veteran player who been playing since its launch, i'm still amazed DE still expanding the lore of Warframe.
It goes back around to Dark Sector, nice callout to the old lore game.
