  • The headlights on my Jeep Liberty have always been bad. When I was contacted to try out some replacement bulbs for free, I was in! This is the product I used:

    I did the same thing a couple years back, love the lights until it's foggy or snowy and all that light is reflected back. Remember how it makes the signs and road line light up? It does the same thing to fog and snow. Some bulb manufacturers make bulbs that can lower their color temperature (change color) so not to reflected as much, think yellow fog light color.

      That is a good point, I will do a follow up after I get a chance to drive in those conditions. I am keeping the old bulbs in the Jeep just in case I need to switch back.

    I tried some led headlight bulbs in sisters old 99 300m and they were super bright and white looking at them from in front. In reality they didn't throw the light down the road very far and were too blue making it hard to see things. The worst part was the low beam bulbs died within 6 months. I changed them out hoping that they would last forever and have better light output. The 300 is super hard to change bulbs in, the bumper, inner fenders, and grill etc usually has to come off unless you know some shortcuts and the dealer charges 200 bucks to do it.
    I tried some aftermarket projector headlights on my 95 Neon and they were so much better than the stock ones and could see so much better, and that was with normal halogen bulbs in them. The low beam threw light down low with a flat beam cutoff to not blind oncoming drivers and the high beams covered everything way down the street. Never tried a newer set of led bulbs in them but they probably would have worked way better and they were easy to change. Find a set for the Jeep and it will be even better.

    The original lights are reminiscent of a 1957 6V VW that I drove thousands
    of miles at night, had to stop periodically and get out to check they were
    still on. Well almost.

    LEDs in reflectors designed for filament bulbs tend to have the wrong beam pattern that blinds oncoming traffic. Also, they don't have a very long service life. They tend to cook themselves and die prematurely or start flickering which is terrible. Then you're stuck.

    Do they blind oncoming cars?

    • @LowBuckGarage

      I have not had any oncoming cars flash their high beams at me indicating that these were too bright, so I don't think so. The original ones were really bad, I think these brought it up to about normal brightness.

    Haha I’m pathologically cheap too! Love this. It’s been a year, they still work ok? The dim lights on my 1996 suburban I drive because I’m also cheap are just too dim compared to all the modern oncoming lights in my area. It almost makes the road in front of me not look illuminated. I have to make a change. Thanks

    Not for 80 bucks, that's a tank of gas. Noticed ur jeep doesn't have the driving lights. I drive the big sister, 11 dodge nitro, 4.0 5spd auto. Love it
    Recently picked up an 07 to use as a body/chassis swap with the 3.7, 6spd. I'll check out ur video on the shifter.
    Have a good 1

    Unfortunately the new lights have a tendency to blind on comming traffic. Thats not good.

      They blind ALL traffic that isn't the person sitting behind them. It isn't just oncoming traffic, it's literally everyone except the occupants of the vehicle they're slid into.

    Wife had the 2012 Jeep Liberty. Aka dodge nitro. She loved it until the skylight. A full length canvas top broke and Jeep wouldn’t, and couldn’t fix it.
    She always complained about the lights. She would have upgraded but she decided on a 2021 Jeep Cherokee instead. Much better lights.

      Yeah, I'm not impressed by the design or build quality on these. Its like they got halfway through developing them and then said "close enough, let's sell 'em".

    Looks like those have a "can bus decoder" built into it to stop flicker that's a plus , their are better and brighter H13/9008 LED lights out there and cheaper

      Yeah, I think 2008 only. They didn't do a very good job at it, though. The drive-by-wire throttle has a delay that makes it really annoying any time you use the clutch.

      Its been reliable, and generally pretty good, but there's a lot of issues that really bug me about it. I love Jeeps, but I don't recommend this model.

      This can't be emphasized enough. Forums are full of people complaining their swapped in LEDs don't work as well as factory LEDs and it's for just that reason.

    • @TestECull
      @TestECull Рік тому +1

      @@TheOtherBill That, and they're going to make you a 24/7 asshole when you shove these into halogen housings. They're going to scatter light in really bizarre directions that blind the piss out of everyone else on the road.

    The cooling fan is the weak link. Cooling air is unfiltered dirty air. How long before the inside of the headlamp becomes dirty? I would just use higher wattage lamps and have them properly adjusted. New tech is over rated!

    there was one test you missed. how blinded are you when you pass a car with lights that bright? nothing i hate worse than have some a-hole blind me with their twin LED suns on the road. if you have a second vehicle, try driving by that car in the dark and see if it messes with your eyesight.

    • @LowBuckGarage
      @LowBuckGarage  2 роки тому +5

      Yeah, I'm limited by being just one person to do everything. For what its worth, I did not have any oncoming drivers flash their high beams at me at all. Also, standing in front they did not seem too bright.

    • @TestECull
      @TestECull Рік тому +2

      @@LowBuckGarage I can guarantee you they are blinded by it. Even when you're not coming towards them. LED headlights are awful about that even when they're in housings/reflectors designed for LED housings. When they're shoved into halogen housings like this they're basically 24/7 asshole mode.
      You'd blind me if we were driving down the same stretch of the road in the same direction in broad daylight running those things. They're seriously awful on everyone else around you.

    • @donaldcampbell5277

      LED lights won't blind if you have them aimed after installation. Just installing and thinking they are correct won't work.
