@@knowbodiesfull5768 Too bad it wasn't the other way around. Remember the Jeep Truck? Chrysler is now under Renault. Genioun Mopar is history. I would be happy with an American Rambler or a Plymouth Valiant with a slant six. No darned computer chips!
AMC, the underdog of the auto industry, decent cars with better equipment than most, is it any wonder that the LA police department used Matadors, just watch Adam12
The only car manufacturer that offered the Buyer Protection Plan before the big three and the imports and a smart move using actor Kevin Mc Carthy as their spokesman.
I know i thought the same thing! Makes a bad impression but I'm sure most AMC car owners got the message when they ended up pushing their own cars off the road after breaking down! LOL
It's to mimic auto shows. Indoor events require the gas tank be removed before the vehicle is allowed into the building, so everything is pushed around.
Early 1970s total sales of AMC topped around 1/2 million units (the best ever)....so the ad pushing cars on a stage did not hurt. AMC's problems began by purchasing Jeep and developing the Pacer, that debt left little money to revamp the Hornet Platform to still keep it relevant in the 1980s. Better management and negotiating better deals with the UAW would have certainly helped too.
AMC built some pretty dependable cars and trucks. Never cared for the Pacer much. AND back when they sold Jeep it was less prone to issues and had less mechanical problems. I miss the simpler days.
I'm 50 years old and my second car was AMC hornet you had the 8-cylinder 4-speed manual and it was a good car when the big-3 that he mentioned was switching fuel injection around 86 + 87 AMC didn't have the money to compete anymore so as we know they sold out to Chrysler full chest discontinued everything except for the Jeeps I had a brother-in-law in 1986 probably 1970 model on a 3000 mile road trip and had no problems with car was 16 years old at that point and had damn near a hundred thousand miles my dad had a 82 evil 4 wheel drive that was a good car he bought it brand new AMC made some good cars back in the day sure what anybody says
Chrysler bought AMC from Renault after some commies assassinated the company president (and after several years straight years of losses). By that time the only AMC was the Eagle wagon, which was a 17 year old Hornet body sitting on a Jeep chassis. I don’t think fuel injection had anything to do with it.
The "for a way a woman uses a car" didn't age well though it is a reminder that more were moms than professionals at the time so designing a car for that purpose made sense. Also a reminder of when domestic cars dominated the market. Do the American names combined even come close to half the market now with a dozen or so foreign brands since 1970 with larger shares than AMC ever had?
Nope, GM, Ford, Stellantis NA, and Tesla are only 46.7% of the market combined, smaller than GM alone was in 1970. Of course, Tesla's 4.4% is actually about a full point higher than American Motors was at that time
I didn't like the woman reference... As a couple days ago, January '24, I bought a '73 AMC Hornet Sportabout Gucci X ... No rust nor dents... Tilt steering, sport steering wheel, mag like wheels, roof rack, 232 I6, automatic, OK it is in need of a paint job but oh well its sharp..!
Now THAT is a car commercial. Go out there, patriotic music playing, and effectively flip the big 3 the bird.
CPD0123a And the worm turned some 17 years later, when Chrysler purchased AMC.

Putting the 'American' in 'AMC'
Another terrific actor who also excelled at doing voiceovers, the late great Kevin McCarthy.
“Designed the way a woman uses a car....”
I'm not sure the "pushing" sends the right message, but OK, still great seeing this ad!
It's that weird thing of seeing the cars driving wouldn't put out the same feeling
Automatic transmission and air conditioning are standard equipment. Starters are extra 😅
Or starting out with the Gremlin. But at least they got the worst out of the way first. lol
AMC, the underdog of the auto industry, decent cars with better equipment than most, is it any wonder that the LA police department used Matadors, just watch Adam12
Parody of "Patton" (1970) opening sequence.
I'll take a Javelin please. My uncle's ambassador wagon was standard on the tree
R.I.P. AMC
The only car manufacturer that offered the Buyer Protection Plan before the big three and the imports and a smart move using actor Kevin Mc Carthy as their spokesman.
I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin McCarthy in 1979, funny, charming man, and a car guy.
+Scott Ferrell Check him out in "UHF."
Obviously.
Liked him in the invasion of the body snatchers.
Where did you get to meet him at? That's really awesome he made time to talk to you.
I've seen "UHF"; it's surprisingly funny. Kevin McCarthy portrays a stuffy exec from a rival station.
I wouldn’t show men pushing my cars if I was making a car commercial for television. 🙄
Would you rather they show women pushing them? 😁
I know i thought the same thing! Makes a bad impression but I'm sure most AMC car owners got the message when they ended up pushing their own cars off the road after breaking down! LOL

American Motors had quality safety design and an excellent marketing program.
I think if they had all that they would have been in business longer than they were.
The best car I ever drove.
I really wish Chrysler would re-release some of the AMC cars. I would love to see the Javelin.
a young, and very dapper looking actor Kevin McCarthy!!
Anchor man lol
We’ve designed a car that looks like a greenhouse (the Pacer) and nobody has done that before
Thank God! That was the only AMC product I never liked.
They hadn’t done that, yet. . .
Drove a '76 Hornet Sportabout wagon in college, orange with fake wood paneling. Bought used for $600 with under 30k miles. Damn I miss that car.
50 shades of beige with that suit LOL
Now that I look back; I wish I never overlooked AMC; When I started driving in 1973. I could afford a used one back then. Thanks for the video.
The ambassador was a really nice car much better than the Caprice or LTD
Well. I miss patriotism.
AMC built some pretty dependable cars and trucks. Never cared for the Pacer much. AND back when they sold Jeep it was less prone to issues and had less mechanical problems. I miss the simpler days.
Notice they're all pushing the cars into position instead of driving them? Hmmmm that should have been an omen =)
Ima fan. Cynical people like you always see the azzhole on the cow instead of the Steak...lol
Hewitt-Jackson Auto Auctions: They push the cars to the center so that the bidding will start.
Ima fan Lmfao.
Sadly underrated.. Unique and value packed.
Invasion of the Auto Snatchers
Awesome
Invasion of the auto snatchers

I love me them Gremlins. Hornets and Javelins are pretty cool too. :)
Awsome cars , would love one now .
Miss my 71 hornet

All of our cars are hideous bulky and cheap, no one else is doing that!
well not true all of them was even bigger ad bulkier than AMC!!
LMFAO! Good one!
I love Jeep's and 69, 70 Javelin's but man even those were unreliable.
lol dork!!
