  • Although the auto maker has cult classic status today, not many know that AMC (American Motors Corporation) once raced in NASCAR or that it was the genesis of the NASCAR Cup Series giant, Team Penske. Accumulating five wins in it's run, AMC may have a short history, but an important one.
Join me in this short video essay as we dive deep into the history and lore of American Motors in NASCAR!

Thanks Glen! Many folks don't realize AMC was successful in many forms of auto racing: Trans Am, NASCAR, Formula 5000, and many drag racing classes.

Worked for a Pontiac/AMC dealer in 74. Owned a73 Gremlin with the 304 v8 back then. Also owned a 77 Matador coupe with the 360. Wish I still had both of them.

That #16 has an iconic paint scheme. You see it in everything, but I never knew the deeper history of it. Great video Glen editing and soundtrack choice were rad 👍

Don't care what anyone says. IMO, one of the most badass looking cars ever to turn a lap!

Hudson didn't merge with a French Company? What kind of claim is that? They was AMC.....AMC via Hudson left Nascar in 1956......AMC made the Hornet up till 1977. AMC was partially owned by Renault, 46%, but was a traded on the NYSE.

YOu claim that AMC is your favorite company but you've got a bunch of facts wrong......The Gremlin was AMC's all time record breaking sales leader being the one and only body style....that sold 800,000 units. No other AMC model was able to do that. AMC big sales increases in 73, 73 and 74 were all due to the AMC and contributed to the three very profitable years...............The Matador wasn't inspired by European Compact cars, that's a totally wacky claim. It was inspired by GM fast back midsized cars and Ford like the Torino and Chevelle which were it's direct competitors, not the pictured Nova, Maverick and Dart???? It also won the "Best Style Car of the Year" award by Car and Driver because of it's great looks. .btw, if you're going to lift stuff off my channel, at least give me credit.

Yep. Bobby said engine failures due to overheating, because of the smaller grill opening the Matador had. He got with AMC about it but nothing was done

That's not true, you've got your facts wrong.....by 1976 AMC introduced an Aero Grill to solve the problem for NASCAR
