  • This video is advice for people who are about to become NCCC Team Leaders.
Thinking back on my 2 years of being a TL, there is a lot I wish I knew before I began my year. The goal of this video is to pass off that information to perspective Team Leaders, in hopes that I can help prepare you before you start, and as you go through, your service year.
I broke it down into 10/11 "categories" of advice, and each point has a LOT of information in it.
If there is anything I missed, or you have any questions, please feel free to comment down below.
Good luck as an NCCC TL and have a fantastic year!
    I hope this helps!

Hmmm thinking of becoming one. Had a flawless reputation as a corps member in 2019 :)

A flawless rep is always a good thing!
I was never a CM but I've had friends and other CMS do a second year as a TL and it does help a lot that you already know the regulations and flow of the program while leading the team.
If you end up doing it I recommend trying another region to expand your experiences- unless there is more to explore/you really enjoyed the region you were in.
If you decide to do so, good luck with your TL year!

@@theworkingexpat Thank you! My team leader Kayla never had to write me up once! Thank god I didn't get fined $20 from the boss Lindsay like some other fools on my team, sheesh!

I'm 23 right now and i'm working on my GED but I want to involve myself in something that is meaningful and hard work I have worked as a contract cleaner and j work with teams cleaning buildings all the time but I have been thinking of joining the peace core but wanted to do something before doing something like the peace core but I know by the time would join I would fall out of member role age and only be able to apply for team leader and Have never leaded a team before or been a leader so this was helpful but any advise you could give for someone who has not been in this type environment that has not done this before

Hi! At the moment, the age limit to be a corps member is 26. It was changed due to the pandemic- I dont know if it will remain or change back later down the line. So that is still an option for you.
If you want to be a Team Leader but have little leadership experience that its okay. A lot of TL's join the program without being a Corps Member or having done anything like NCCC before. You will find some TLs that have never held a formal leadership role either.
During TL training, they will teach you may different leadership skill and styles- so I suggest asking lots of questions ad really paying attention during your Team Leader training.
Aside from that, I would also say- do your best to put yourself in your corps member shoes in different situations, to feel out how you would want to be treated. Think of the type of leader you would want, and be transparent with your team: ask them what they expect or want from you as their team leader before the year begins.
Overall, as long as you aim to do your best that's what matters. You will make mistakes and that's okay! This position is a learning experience for you as well, so that you can grow into a stronger leader.
