Love the Now for Chats! I also agree about Gothmog - went down an attack, now has MoB on a 2+, and lost strike. I think it would have been more themy if they had at least given him resolve or something. The biggest thing was that he is 5 points more as well and his main force, The Army of Gothmog, lost the ability to take Mordor orcs. So no bows and substantially less orc spam. When you combine that with the loss of zagdush and goroth, it’s tough. I’m excited about the new rules and army lists on the whole though and looking forward to more of your vids!
Gimli got some sneaky tech in this edition. He can still two-hand. He's basically guaranteed to be behind Legolas in kills. He has Heroic Strength. Which means depending on what/who you are fighting, you can guarantee or near guarantee a wound on anyone. (Str 8 with +2 to wound is no joke). He still deserved more love, buuuut I look forward to seeing some surprise Gimli wreckingball moments.
@NowForWrathGaming Yes. I fear for the fate of my KD dwarves. I get the feeling the dwarves are going to continue to be collateral damage in this update.
I think the balrog is better, but not fully there. The extra movement is a little lost with the goblins not being able to keep up. Also he just won't be consistent enough to be a real competitive threat I fear. I also think at best sauron has had a lateral move, and overall barad dur is currently worse than last edition due to list and Witchking nerfs. I've played sauron a few times this edition and the strike changes feel good, but the magic nerfs and the other changes don't make him feel viable. This but is anecdotal but my opponents have hated the new hurl more than old hurl as its just an unresistable transfix when you have priority with a smart enough monster. I fear monsters will not age well as people haven't figured out the optimal ways to shut them down as they operate differently. I also firmly hate the list building changes but thats half people like, half don't kinda thing, but I think lists are basically all "solvable" where there was way less of that before, and also like you said, its hard to make lists, and especially large lists, even with large model counts. Banner vps sticking around also sucks.
Thanks for the new edition review. I agree i like the rules, i also like the pre-set army lists (it stops alot of people being gamey. i.e. Suladan with WK, Bolt Throwers in every MT list, Gwahir allied into any list possible, Morannon & Black Num lists. so its definitely created a balance. I am a little worried about all the special rules that each army lists and each model has. as they are everywhere now, as it will be hard to keep up and remember them when playing unfamiliar lists. Arnor, i like playing their list, hard to kill enemies with them but also resilient aswell however if Malbeth is taken down then it falls apart, so its quite a fun list i think. Arnor got a little buff in the new PDF with a Palantir baked in now. Thanks for the video. I would be interested in seeing a Riders of Eomer Bat rep if you had time? thanks for the vid
Andrew and I are both big fans of Riders of Eomer so you can count on seeing it soon! We did include it in our live stream; though those are probably not nearly as easy to watch!
My initial reaction to the throwing weapon limit was upset given I tend to go all in on grim hammers. That being said overall I really like most of the army lists and profiles. I've only got 2 games so far but enjoyed both. Havnt seen the film yet but the Army of Edoras models are really tempting. As a previous dwarf main I'm keen to see whatever Khazard dum gets
u can kinda do mix lists you just play like 2v2. 4 example you have a Rohan list with 600 points and a Gondor list with we say 300 points against Mordor with 600 and we say Gundabad 300. 2 armys but you play like its an Alliance. We play with my friends Warhammer fantasy this way but like 3v3 and often 3k per list ,so 9k vs 9k. And they are long games but we like it. they take like about 7-11h to play
I am posting this having received the news that my Barad-dur is going to have to face Defenders of the Hornburg with double the Dominance in Reconnoitre in my next game. Sauron having Dominant 10 (which he already would have 3 of for being the General) is barely the shadow of a hope compared to their 40 models with Dominant 2.
Love the blog and newer UA-cam content guys! In terms of new edition, I think in general the rules changes have been really good, although the list building restrictions are pretty lame. More thematic is good, but it’s pretty inconsistent and seems to be movie focused, which misses the mark in a lot of ways - why not just give people more penalties for soup lists? It’s not great to not allow for people to do what if scenarios or lists focused on scenes not described but would make total sense within reason. I also think the profile changes are decent but they really messed up on some. Why would you not start with smaller nerfs or changes rather than nerfing certain characters into the ground? GG is one of my favourites to play as an elf player, and to see a character that was one of the strongest in the lore get 5-6 nerfs at once was really frustrating. Lost strike, defence, horse, shield, B&G and got 5 points more expensive - so many illogical elements to this (despite weaker magic and strike). It’s weird when the general changes feel good but then you get some decisions for profiles or armies that just seem so out of left field. I hope going forward there’s more consistency in game balance or list decisions and smaller tweaks rather than random changes that completely flip certain character’s viability.
New hurl is you pick a target then roll intelligence. if you pass, you throw it at that target. if you fail, your opponent chooses the target (still one of their models though). No more bowling effect though, so it JUST hits the target.

I loved using Goroth. I’ll probably still run him with the pdf.

True! Still, everyone else had a big ol' glow up and Gimli... just didn't.

@@michaeldraftz3990 Fingers crossed. I admit I was pretty bummed at the King's Champion going legacy. That was such a cool profile.
@NowForWrathGaming guess we all have a blinged out Erebor Captain or maybe an alternate Dwalin?

On your Gimli point, GW hates dwarves…they constantly nerf them to the point of being unusable.
I wonder what ancient crime dwarves committed against James Workshop?

Armies being good at specific point levels and in certain scenarios has been a thing in MESBG for a long time.
@@voice_of_terra7228 Well 800 doesn't feel great for me right now.
Lurtz' Scouts was the most taken list in the first gbhl 100.
Because it was only 450pts
@@robbo2099 At low points Lurtz' scouts is definitely looking tasty.
@@NowForWrathGaming how about Gwaihir and 3 great eagles??
@@robbo2099 Aye. I could do that.

The inconsistency is pretty wild. Strider on horse is only 10 points more than GG... and I know which one I would rather have in 100% of situations!
Im enjoying the new rules so far. I still think all books shoulda been out at once
Whats new hurl ive not came across that yet

I feel like there needs to be a new deployment style rather than maelstrom and 12".
