I’ll never forget that when I got lost at the airport when my family and I were going to Florida for a family reunion, I used Fender’s call for help noise and my mom wanted to kill me cuz she was hella embarrassed 😂😂😂
That’s a wild story. I found it so funny too cause I can just imagine a lost little kid back then using Fender’s help call and their parent just be like “why is my kid doing this we’re in public.” But hey at least it helped you not be lost.
This movie is actually way more accurate on greed ruining once noble enterprises than I remember. Them sanding off the previous company motto reminds me of the sobering moment when google removed "And remember... don't be evil, and if you see something that you think isn't right - speak up!" from their company code of conduct. Oh look and they fired some people recently for trying to speak out about some fucked shit the company was doing, who'd have guessed it!

This is truly one of the Blue Sky's most underrated classics. I love how much time was put into developing this robot run world, I love the message about the working class coming together and standing up against their unfair capitallist overlords, and I especially love Bigweld. Mel Brooks as the voice is perfect and I love how he represents the imaginative, innovating ideas of Walt Disney. And boy, this movie sure was ahead of it's time when it came to planned obsolescence of technology.
@@DiggitySlice He literally isn't. The dude not only wanted to devote a lot of his time to inventors without any demand of monetary compensation, but we're never told that he wanted to patent/commodify their inventions. Furthermore he not only removed himself from the corporation, but at the end of the movie he makes spare parts available again to help those in need (ie he does healthcare) and he decides to not only make the hero of the story (a worker) into his second in command and eventual successor, even though that means he'd not only give up his position of power, and the worker is also directly opposed to the company's structure and goals of commodification. Incidentally there is no difference between capitalism and corporatism, if you try to separate them, you will find that the former always leads into the latter, and that is by design.
30:15 It's amazing that you mention Rollie Pollie Ollie 'cuz the author of the books, William Joyce, had a hand in this film's visual style! He also wrote "A Day with Wilbur Robinson", a book that would later be adapted into Disney's Meet the Robinsons!
30:16 The guy that wrote the original source material for this, William Joyce, also created Rolie Polie Olie the kid's show. He's a local legend; we have a mural for Rolie Polie Olie downtown. He also wrote the source material for Meet the Robinsons, Epic (2013), and Rise of the Guardians~~~^.^
I find it super cool that the robot design aesthetics are used to emphasize the story The poor robots are of course rusted and vintage looking, but also a with lot of bright colors. Yellow, red, green, orange, etc. All the "inventor" robots have a lot of silver/grey in their design. Rachet is of course completely metallic, and everything he builds has a similar all chrome minimalist design. Bigweld is brushed aluminum, with black and some gold/copper accents. A lot of his designs have circles and natural curves with smooth motion. The female robot with the roller blade feet is kinda a mix of Rachet+bigweld, because she is initially on Rachets team, but she still is loyal to Bigweld's dream. She looks high tech and shiny, but with a black dress as well as lots of circles and arcs. Rodney also has lots of silver and chrome, but it is mixed with some light blue to associate him with colorful protagonists.
Just a fun fact about Robin Williams: the man was a major anime fan, and even wanted to play the role of Gendo Ikari if a live action versions of Neon Genesis Evangelion had ever been made
There was a time where I only had this movie and a dvd player, no cable or anything, I watched this movie hundreds of times and I still absolutely adore it

Hammer - There is a robotic version of Sid the Sloth from Ice Age that appears when Rodney first enters Robot City
Also the 3 Robot watches that said "Don't buy us, were fakes " are voiced by the 3 judges of American idol(Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell) NO JOKE!
I don't know why but this reminds of the movie Repo: The Genetic Opera, where people have to pay for organ replacements due to a organ failure epidemic and they get hacked if they miss a payment. This makes me think of a potential sequel for that where organ replacement isn't enough anymore and the rates have gone up, so certain people have been secretly building prosthetics from whatever they can find(scrap/junk/whatever)and eventually that evolved into the 'Robots' civilization cos the robots needing spare parts and getting captured to go to the chop shop works the same way.

For a very long time this is one of my favorite animated movies out there. I remember going to the movie theater to watch this film & getting the small toys with it. Fun fact this movie was going to be a musical, which is way there a lot of music moments.

There's a slightly alter UK version of this movie, that as a Brit I watched. Aunt Fanny is shortened to Aunt Fan, because Fanny is British slang for a lady garden, and Ratchet's father is voiced by the late Sir Terry Wogan.

Glad to see that you enjoy this underrated classic.
This movies themes and world building are so cool. Just looking at any given scene is a delight.
There's a slightly alter UK version of this movie, that as a Brit I watched. Aunt Fanny is shortened to Aunt Fan, because Fanny is British slang for a lady garden, and Ratchet's father is voiced by the late Sir Terry Wogan.
Idk why but the conductor crying is surprisingly real to me
I just love it
This was my daughter's favorite movie when she was little. Consequently, I think I've seen this movie about a million times.
Man I remember the minigames they used to have on DVDs. This movie and Kung fu Panda's were my favorites (and also the hardest). Playing a laggy ass video game with your TV remote. Lol it was both the best and the worst.
I absolutely loved this movie when I was younger. Glad to see it still holds up.
Buying yourself a mug that says worlds best boss? Oh that’s totally Blitzø
