saw this in the same decade at the Music Hall Aberdeen Scotland. they were supporting Charley Pride. Remember Mr Pride shushing the crowd when they joined in with his singing. took the shine off the man for me am afraid. We thought we were arching the tops and this is a joy to see in my 50's as it was when i was in my teens.
You're definitely right about that. I also saw them live a few times, but this was the lineup when I first saw them, Dave, Sue, and Vicki. Became friends with Sue a few years later.
Traditional country is dead in nashville when they turn their backs on the older artist for they the ones i still listern too and not the crap they call country music today
"Queen of the Silver Dollar" was first recorded by Dr. Hook on their 1972 album Sloppy Seconds, and later by Doyle Holly (on his 1973 album Doyle Holly), Barbi Benton (on her 1974 album Barbi Doll), Emmylou Harris (on her 1975 album Pieces of the Sky) and Dave & Sugar (on their 1976 album Dave & Sugar). Not the original. this version makes me cry.
This was the group considered as "ABBA of Country Music". I saw them in concert. They were great! Nashville is not what it used to be, more like rock songs than real traditional classic country. I hate the new country!
Sue Powell, Dave Rowland and Vicki (Hagemann) Baker, the lineup in 1978. Powell fills Jackie Frantz's original parts. And yes, Sue was cute, and just 19 at the time.
@horsehand70 The blonde in this video is Sue Powell, the second singer in the Sugar line up. She came in after Jackie Frantz left. My opinion for what it's worth is that Jackie was the better singer.
@guitarbrittany31 This is the orginal version. Dave and Sugar were under contract to Charlie Pride and he wouldn't let them break the contract so the eventually stopped singing. They made big bucks for him. It's really ashamed because they really shot to the top when they came out.
Sounds just as good today as the day it was released. The cream always rises to the top,These 3 are the cream of the crop!
My gosh Dave Rowland was handsome. RIP. And you too Vicki Hackeman. Such a sweet voice. 😊❤
October 2019 still love the 70s and older country music !! Better days by far !!
This was back when country and pop were both great. There was execellent then, but little left now.
Always like Dave & Sugar..................can't sing a bad song! Country isn't what it use to be.
Always loved them great singing 😊 Vicki what a powerful voice RIP 💖
Great song. I remember dancing and roller skating to this 🛼🛼
I wish they would reunite.Their voices harmonized better than any group I have ever heard. Hope they are all still alive..Great great trio!!!!!!
Dave Rowland sadly died in 2020 or 2021 I believe.
Thank you Uncle Shelby for such a wonderful song. Done so well by this great duo.

I like them better than anyone. This song is really wonderful
everyone remembers this song from their youth, heck I remember it from my middle-age :-(
Used to work in a Bar called the Silver Dollar, and that was the bands opening song every night
The drummer is amasing, he's wonderfull, great sound!
They were such a CLASSY act--that Sue Powell is HOT! Fabulous harmonies...
i saw them with charley pride in B HAM.. about late 70ish ....great show
Oh how this brings back memories!! I have got to get out my old vinyl and put it on a CD! I must have played their music a few hundred times at least!

Dave and sugar lives on forever
He wrote it as a satire of country songs but it became a country classic.
great version,ty 4 posting it,God be with you & yours.
My favorite version, bar none.
neddysea you are right, they got their start as Charlie Prides Backup singers, I wonder how many Total SUGAR Dave went thru over thr yrs
Traditional country is dead in nashville when they turn their backs on the older artist for they the ones i still listern too and not the crap they call country music today

I like this version better than any of the others. Make that much better.
best version in my opinion
How many Queens of the silver dollar does a person meet in their lives go to any country bar and they are there.
Are you serious !! The HOOK made this song his own despite who wrote it,,,THANK-YOU !!!;)

Considering the group's makeup--a guy and two girls--a more fitting comparison would've been with Tony Orlando and Dawn.
Great Shel Silverstien/Dr Hook Tune...
David Gaddis was the drumer on this great work david.

This as written by Shel Silverstein, famous of lots of kids' poetry.
I agree 100 times better, it flowed better and the horns made it way better.
Shel Silverstein also wrote a lot of material for Dr. Hook.
VIVA #1
I wish it was four and a half minutes long.
I agree with all y'all. In fact a song was done by some body entitled Murder On Music Row. Check it out!
Can i get soundtrack
does anyone know where i can find Dave & Sugar, Golden Tears on youtube!???
I like the first version better!! where is the first version? Can't find it in here, but I know that it has been here.
Man talk about a case of looks before talent syndrome in this case! She does know how to play up to the camera though !!!
Is this country musics answer to abba ?
@patsaxon Sorry to disillusion you, but this isn't a Country song. It's a Rock song originally recorded by Dr. Hook And The Medicine Show.
Are they a husband and wife team?
Why were there so many different sugars over the years
look up genfrogy The door is always open
has one of this group passed away recently ?
yes Dave passed away in Nov due to a stroke
My mother was Vicki and she passed away in July of 2018.
Thank you for the information ❤
for real which one
RIP DAVE ROWLAND!!!!! 11/1/2018
I still prefer Emmylou Harris' version, but this one is nice too.
Sure would like to tast some of that sugar
Dr. Hook made this song, Dave and Sugar almost destroyed it.
GEEEEES..
I love Country but this is the worst copi of a great song!!!!!
Give me back Dr. Hook and the medicin show.
Thank you.
This isn't even country.
Love it 👍👍
