Gail Greenwood is such a fucking rock star. I've seen them twice in the last ten years and she is just as energetic onstage as she was thirty years ago.
Can't speak for what passes for mainstream Pop pablum, but at least the Goth and Post-Punk scenes have seen a resurgence in the past few years, which is very much appreciated.
I had that CD. it was hidden with Cathy Dennis, veruca salt and zeppelin coda album but I did buy it and it got played when like no one but me was home. Truth I use to smoke weed and suck whipits down play this song and stare into my eye of the storm thingy turned over to music setting.
I saw these in about 93 or 94 in Manchester at the academy. It was an amazing gig and such a great atmosphere. I saw them later in about 96 in Sheffield at the Leadmill, equally awesome!
@@blurman111000 Good to great bassist, super stand up person, but in the wrong band for sure... Some of their recent live performances with Gail adding (too much) vocals is unfortunate.
That’s the way Gail always performs! She still does. She came from punk having been in a RI band called Boneyard(who opened for the likes of social distortion and circle jerks)prior to Tanya recruiting her to Belly.
Jon Stewart had his own late night talk show back in the 90's before the Daily Show. He was known for having fantastic musical guests- like Belly for example
Curiously, I swear I can make more sense out of Tanya's charmingly growly "la la las" in "Not Too Soon", when she was still in Throwing Muses. But I will always have a big ❤️ for Belly.
@@MoontownMoss Hi there, I did find a reference online to a horrific punishment for unfaithful wives but in ancient China. I think the details are probably the same?! Definitely barbaric ! I wonder how it fits in with this classic song, still one of my favourites ! Ian
This is a great clip, even though Gail Greenwood is annoying as hell. All hail Tanya Donelly! By the way, stop griping about modern music. There's not THIS kind of music anymore because you stopped buying it and paying for shows, etc. You grew up, in other words. No one to blame but yourselves, and if you actually invest time, you'll quickly see there's plenty of great female artists and plenty of great music being made today.
"So that kid from the bad home came over to my house again.... * * *Decapitated all my dolls* * *" I have a lot of favorite Belly lyrics. That's sure one!
Tanya basically reveals that she has no great singing voice (or: just a bad day?) - she looks cool though, and Gail.... looks so... "misplaced". Sorry. I guess, she may perhaps have thought Belly was a Van Halen copy band. And apparently, still has that idea as she kept that... [negative expression on American music genre, which could imply words like 'white trash'] attitude. Aside from that, they can't ruin the fact that the song is mighty fine.
@Endless Nameless It's a great song. I think Gail really drove the energy levels up during a live performance. There's a great version of Dusted at one of the XFM Concerts in Hyde Park, London on here somewhere. I guess she gets on with the band on a personal level and that's why she was in the band. You don't want to be touring with someone you can barely stand.
Agree on Gail... Fine bassist, wrong band. Tanya's live performances are hit and miss. For some, she over sings it, or she's flat. Trying too hard, or nervous. Their performance of Feed the Tree on Letterman was awful. Their studio sound is fantastic though. Same with her vocals during her Muses days.
@@WHJeffB The Letterman performance can be blamed mostly on the fact that it's just two Belly members accompanied by the studio band. Most if not all the awful singing is them.
Magnificent performance. Belly and Throwing Muses were absolutely amazing bands. Can't believe its been over 30 years.
Gail Greenwood is such a fucking rock star. I've seen them twice in the last ten years and she is just as energetic onstage as she was thirty years ago.
That version of the Jon Stewart show had so many great musical performances on it
Music is a time machine.

Weird ain’t it
90s were the best years of my life !!

Took me 30 years to develop a crush on Tanya but here I am.
Ok. This performance is just awesome.
Love, love, love Belly and that 90's "alternative" sound.
she was so good at the vocals for this album live back then, just so good!
Excellent performance! clearly they were having fun and played the monster out of that song!!
Fucking fantastic performance. Her voice is great! So raw! Her little laugh when she hits the mic with her mouth is so cute
90s-tastic! Such an under-rated band.
Tonya Donnely is a goddess. 90's please come back. Modern music sucks.
Can't speak for what passes for mainstream Pop pablum, but at least the Goth and Post-Punk scenes have seen a resurgence in the past few years, which is very much appreciated.
Amazing! Best of the mid 90's!!
Oh the sound of those 1990 ladies; voices and guitar!
This was one of the CDs I played on repeat back in the day
look at jon stewart jump and yell at the end. That energy is contagious. Yes!
Just saw them in Seattle last week. Gail is still a badass but now she plays all the right notes! This performance kills!!!

Tanya having a very good hair day. Worship her :)
Belly performed Slow Dog during ending credits of that episode, too bad that's not included here. :(

Always love Donnelley. Gail made it fun¡!
Saw them live in Orlando in the 90s. They were with Radiohead. Can't remember which was the headliner.
This 40 year old male crushed hard on Tanya. Such a loverly guuurl.
Same here and I liked the bassist too!
She is cute as hell
she's so pretty
I gave her flowers once in a restaurant in Chicago. I was in my 20s, dumb enough to do it. She was very gracious.
this 45 year old female was crushing hard on Jon Stewart back then.
The five lames responsible for the thumbs down just don't know
Kick ass band
Anyone notice at 2:47 the drummer changed the name of his kit from "Sonor" to "Bonor?" 😆
I love this song and band and song.........but I can't get past how much the two guitarists look like Buffy and Zander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer!
So is that Spike on drums, and Anya on bass?
this is such an intersection of my great loves, thank u for sharing that!!!!!
Gail dances the hell out of that bass - lol
She's a bit out of place in this band...
@@WHJeffB She had a big influence in King being more rock-oriented though. It was a nice twist if you ask me.
