Hearing about your husband brough unexpected emotions- I am a stroke survivor- been about 15 years now, and I'm doing better. Hope and pray Doug continues to improve- God Bless you both. I used to be an extensive rock crawler camper man myself- Now that I have grandkids I'm thinking of trying it again, well some form of easier camping anyway.
Just found your channel today. Prayers for a complete recovery 🙏🕊️🤍 I'm a solo woman, so am super interested in your van, although I loved the video that was recommended on the Casita 😊
I am sorry to hear about your husband, but it's nice to hear he is doing better, I pray he makes a full and speedy recovery. At 60 years of age I am only a little younger than your husband, so this is a wake up call that one's health can often interrupt the best of plans. Some of the reasons I have been looking at the Casita are my wife and I are getting a divorce and this will give me an opportunity to visit places I have always wanted to go to. I would be, "more than likely", traveling solo, so this video has provided me food for thought. Your channel has been a wealth of info about the Casita and traveling, I am looking forward to seeing your future content.
I’m sorry to hear about your divorce. (This is a second marriage for both Doug and I). One of my friends recently divorced. I told her to do all the things that she couldn’t do while she were married. I applaud you for doing the things that make you happy. RVing can either be solitary or social. I’m an introvert, but have met many people while camping.
@@TravelsandTravails I would classify myself as an extrovert like my dad was. He, like me, enjoyed meeting new people and staying fast friends with those he already knew. I have plans, or at least grand designs, to use a travel trailer to go from one Radio Control soaring event to another. Most events are near campgrounds and all over the US. Then there is the trip to WDW I wish to take.
Good that Doug is doing better!!! I completely understand now why you sold the Casita ! It’s not uncommon that people don’t like to tow anything! Thanks for your update! 👍😁
Love your video. It was fun talking to you the other day. I towed the Casita by myself yesterday and had to call my boyfriend several times. So sorry about the health issue. We are so lucky to have UC Davis here. What a cute house in the background.
Thank you for sharing with us why you got rid of your Casita was curious. So very sorry to hear about Doug glad to know he is doing better praying for a complete recovery for him. 🙏 Casita’s are not the same without you guys. ❤
Good call. Having health, at any age, beats having material assests. We share some near similarities. I once had a Casita, "moved " up to a 25' class C, and had a mild stoke six months ago, and still not 100%, maybe 80%, and within months of retirement, and we lived in Orlando, years back which I think is the picture in your video. The Class C is gone as my wife is prohibited from driving by her doctor, so I have other plans for retirement, implemented from a few hears back, which were the primary plan then, now the backup plan. Best to have a plan B and C. So, I can certainly relate to you situation. Best of luck and God Bless.
Glad to hear Doug is recovering. We have a Casita as well but just purchased a Coachmen Nova class B van for similar reasons as yourself. We will keep both RV’s for a while. It will be fun to see all the mods you guys do. I’m looking forward to your future videos.
@@TravelsandTravails We just got it last week and haven’t camped in it yet, we only drove it from the Phoenix area to our home in Vegas. We are currently in the process preparing it for camping. I like the way it drives, the brakes are my only complaint, being such a heavy vehicle it takes quite a while to stop and we aren’t used to that.
New subscriber here. I want to share an encouraging stroke story for you. My mom at 101 suffered one. She was on hospice and thankfully the nurse was visiting when it happened. Mom didn’t go to the hospital or have major med changes. It took her several weeks, but she came out of it remarkably well. She didn’t know where she was or who was with her. Memory and vision took big hits. BUT….It was miraculous how well she recovered in my book. Wishing both of you the very best! Maybe we will see each other on the road sometime. We live in OK. My sister in law lives in 1/2 🌙 Bay. We were just there watching the elephant bull seals 🦭 bask on da beach.
Thank you for explaining why you sold your Casita. We have an Independence Deluxe and have followed your channel for years. You gave us lots of ideas on how to improve our experience. The Casita has been/is great and we feel privileged to be able to own one. Having said that, I am considering selling it for many of the same reasons you did. My wife is not comfortable towing so I do all the driving. I have gotten pretty good at towing and backing up but every year that first trip is a quiet source of anxiety for me as I consider hitching up again. It is to the point where I find myself half-hoping we will cancel the trip so I can avoid the stress (I have enough as it is). It's also a workout getting the rig hitched up and unhitched. In an emergency, my wife could tow the Casita but there is no way she could get it hitched/unhitched. The Casita is also very tight quarters, especially in the bathroom. We don't spend a ton of time in it so that's OK, but longer trips could be difficult I think. The thought of just getting in a vehicle and driving off, parking in normal spaces, and backing up with ease sounds wonderful. Trying to figure out if a van or a truck camper would be a better fit.
@@TravelsandTravails I neglected to mention that I am glad that your husband is on the mend. My dad had a stroke at about 63. He worked very hard at physical therapy and he got back to about 85-90% of his pre-stroke strength and dexterity. The physical therapists really pushed him hard and I think it paid off. His leg would get stiff though at times and it got slightly worse as he aged. From the age of about 78-82 he used a cane most of the time to steady himself.
Hi. First time viewer. Glad that was okay in the end. Agree being able to drive yourself is crucial! That hour window on strokes & medication depends on cause, of course. -- I'd like to ask you about your metal roofing on the cabin. We need a new roof & have asphalt tile over plywood. I'd like to know about metal roofing. Maybe you have a video about that - will look in your list. If not, then would love a video on that topic.
Excellent choice. Pleasureway makes amazing vans. I am picking up my new Casita SD at the end of the month. If I could have afforded a Pleasureway I would have bought one!
Hoping for a complete recovery. I have enjoyed my Casita for at least the first 3-1/2 years. Went back and forth between buying a van or fiberglass camper. At the time, for me, pros of the camper outweighed the van. (Still thought about it over the years) Being stuck down south with my medical appointments, I am back to wondering on selling or not. Loved the boondocking 3/4 of the year. Being able to leave the camper at a campsite. Now just thinking of downsizing more.
I’ve decided to keep my Casita of 5 years. I’m going to buy a Van to just sightsee travel. Do a no build build and probably sell the Van after a few years! Can’t afford a pleasure Way Van .
@@TravelsandTravails I would love to be able to afford a good used Pleasure Way van ! I have heard good things about them . They have been around long time . Good luck going forward with your new rig . Hope you get to my home state of Florida! Glad that Doug is on the mend ! 🙏😁😁

Both the van and truck camper are great options. I really like the gas mileage of the Ford Transit. We get about 15 mpg.

Check into a gate lock that the emergency services had a master key so they can get onto your property:
KNOX lock or KNOX block
Thanks for the suggestion!
Doug is smart. My partner had a stroke, multiple strokes, in her 40s. Call 911
