    One teachers at the fitting classes I took a long time ago said "wrinkles point to the problem", so in this case, the wrinkles point to the problem that more fabric is needed at the center. I love the way that you simplify the way to correct the problem(s) using drawings and examples to visualize the changes.

    Excellent options. I know you love your fitting book. You should take it to your coffee shop and have it spiral-bound. I’ve done that several times and they are so much nicer. Makes them more convenient to use.

    I refer back to your fit videos for help. Design of a pattern can throw off what I thought was a similar fit with every pattern and it isn't necessarily so. Safest fit for me is to measure the pattern pieces against my body "each" time. Anyhow, thanks again for great fitting tips and the clarity with which you present them.

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 роки тому

      ...I do that too when I'm working with a new pattern. Measuring you and your pattern pieces is a great way to double check to see if you have enough or too much! Thanks for watching

    Thanks you so much Jen! This is such a clear and thoughtful explanation! I have made 3 muslins and this problem was present all 3 but to different degrees ... I just didn't understand how to assess the fit of my muslin. I'll make a 4th try and hopefully I'll have a good fitting t-shirt.... finally.

    Hi please tell me how to smooth wrinkles in front of tights

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Рік тому

      :) Here are a few different things that might cause wrinkles in the front of the thigh... Sometimes it's the simple fact that the inseam between the knee and crotch is longer in the front. When you ease it into the back inseam, it can cause wrinkles along the inseam in the front. If it's not that, I would have to see what the wrinkles look like! Thanks for watching

    Hi and thanks for this video. I'm guessing the depth of the "dart" at its deepest point toward the sleeve cap is the amount to spread each the bodice and sleeve cap? Or should I start with about 3/8" and see how that works? I'm working with a stretchy bamboo/spandex fabric so that's probably a consideration. Thanks again!

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Рік тому

      Less is more when you're working with knits. I made two different tees from the same pattern using two different knits (one stretched less than 25%) ... The one with the less stretchy fabric pulled like this under the arm and the other one didn't. You will be surprised how little you may need to add to fix the wrinkles (remember it's double because if you add it to the side seam under the arm, ... when you cut it out that's 3/8" x 2 or 3/4". Hope this helps, thanks for fitting along with me

  • @margaretsmith9637
    @margaretsmith9637 Рік тому +1

    So with a larger bust, won’t you need to add length too? Like curve the side seam out but ease it in there and make sure the bottoms match thus adding a bit of length to the front.

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Рік тому +1

      That's a good point... If the shape of your bust has is full on the sides near the side seams, then yes, add some curve to the side seam and ease it in! Thanks for fitting along with me

  • @prof_pudge

    Thanks Jen! I always have issues with this. Seems like I have gaping at the neck, shoulder seam drooping off the arm and too tight through the chest. If I chose a 14-16 in the shoulders and 22 in the bust, the garment looks odd and tent like. This may help!

    • @debtaylor2387
      @debtaylor2387 2 роки тому

      My problem is the same

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 роки тому

      ... Maybe split the difference and blend up to a size 20 in the bust and do a small Full Bust Adjustment to make room... then the pattern won't be so big at the hem. Let me know if this makes sense.!

    Thank you! how do I know whether I need this or an FBA? (Should I do the FBA first and then this second if I still have the wrinkles?)

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Рік тому +1

      That's a great question! Usually if you need an FBA, there are stress wrinkles across your bust & it may look like you need a dart because there's a gap wrinkle coming out of the armhole a little higher up. Hope this helps! Thanks for fitting along with me.

  • @kendal4452

    I understand what you mean in terms of measuring your own body and then putting that measurment on the pattern piece 2 inches below the arm, x2 on half patterns at the bust to make sure the pattern fits the bust but, how do I consider ease? How much ease do I need in the bust area for both front and back?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 роки тому +1

      It depends on how much stretch your knit has... Stretch a 10 inch piece to see how many inches you can stretch it further... For every inch you can stretch past 10 inches... that's 10%... So if you can stretch your knit to 12 inches, you fabric has 20% stretch. That means your fabric will stretch 2" for every 10" around your body. Use that to check to see if the pattern is wide enough to fit your body + the ease in the knit. Hope that helps!

  • @mrslilmama1

    what if you have excess fabric in that area. i made a sweater that had about an inch of extra fabric right there.

    • @dimples7334
      @dimples7334 2 роки тому +1

      Maybe you need a small bust adjustment.

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 роки тому

      It depends on if it's excess width or excess length. Excess width, try taking the side and underarm seam in a little bit. If it's too long, try picking up the shoulder to see if it smooths out. ...A small bust adjustment might get rid of the excess too... It's hard to tell without seeing what's going on!
