You are correct that heat does rise but most importantly heat transfers from hot to cold so any ventilation you can give that exhaust should help. Always great watching your channel! 👍
Get some heat wrap and wrap your hose and wire harness with heat tape, we used them around the turbo area at work, it works helping them melting. Thermo wrap.
Your confession eleven minutes in is important, as a professional i have to explain this to people modification costs a fortune, because it's never just bolting parts on, Great video kids 😉❤
That thing is such a beast. Great to see you back in it. Hope you have a good time out on trail in it again soon and it reminds you why you love it so much.
For my old YJ V8 build it was similar for me. Every drive I heard something and i always were not able to relax and enjoy it … even with a family now . I changed to a stock 4xe and I enjoy to be able to go everywhere without issues …. But stepchild looks so nice but also so custom when we see all those details here in the video… good luck . I hope a wrangler will always be part of the video content and not fully changed to the bronco. Greetings Monty
My YJ has a skid plate that traps heat also. I use DEI exhaust half wrap that uses worm clamps to hold onto the pipe. I have it protecting the t-case and fuel/brake lines. Been under there for 10 years, and working great.
Love your videos. Even watching since the fist metal cloak lift install. Y’all got me into this and I’m hooked. The tube on the end of your transfer case looks like and 90 degree AN fitting. The only reason I learned this was watching so many build videos.
Absolutely LOVE❤ my AnyiGavity battery. 4 years in and no problems yet. I did find in -20c weather that it worked WAY BETTER than yellow top. The only consideration is if you only do short trips the battery will not warm up enough to charge and after a week of cold starts 2 or 3 times a day the battery obviously wore down to the cut off. Point is you need to drive long enough once a week to warm up the engine compartment an̈d be sure that the battery reaches min charge temp and voltage gets back to 14.4. CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS. Steve h.
Ah Jeep life, drive it for a day and then fixing all the found issues for the rest of the week. These videos are good, lets us know what to expect when we upgrade.
only issue i had with my antigravity was it sat in the jeep for 2+weeks in sub 30degree weather and i never started the jeep. it killed the battery. wouldnt charge, etc. i returned it and got another one. so far so good. so my suggestion is if you have one and it sits in cold weather, just start the jeep once a week or so or throw a tender on it. I talked to anti gravity at hammers and they said not starting it for several weeks is what did it in. havent had an issue since.
Running all Heims on that front end is going to cause binding and tremendous stress on all the mounts and joints. Having at least 2 of the joints being a bushing or poly rebuildable joint absorbs that binding letting it flex easier and less stress on everything.
Wrape the pipes in Design Engenering wrap. also pupt some marine SS airvents in the skid pabn to push air up in the area. Careful of the Atlas, they had one catch on fire a few years back...
Had a great talk with you at the Pigeon Forge Bronco Stampede. I am building my retirement Bronco. Would love to talk further about my mistakes in building my Bronco. Was great meeting you, hope to talk with you further and see you on the trail.
Get a smaller type of fan, like a trans cooler fan, and mount it to blow the heat out from above the skidplate. I bet it's only needed when you're going really slow all day rock crawling/trail riding. It just needs something that will move that air.
I put an Antigravity battery in my JL. I got tired of replacing the battery. I was having an issue with the battery getting weak and then having to jump it after a week when it was just sitting. Haven't had that issue since I put it in. Also, you can put in a blue tooth sensor, and it can tell you the status of the battery. It can tell you every day if you want. Well worth the money! Not to mention it should last 8to 10 years and really almost pays cost the same if you are replacing batteries over the same time frame.
I have the same problem with exhaust heat on our JKU. I had someone recommend putting a fan on top of the skid plate in a vertical arrangement that would assist air flow through the skid plate/Jeep floor tunnel. I am not sure that it would work well enough to be worth the effort.
I would just wrap those pipes with lots of header wrap That would help quite a bit , it’s not great, especially if he gets muddy and it will make the pipes burn out faster, but it would reduce the heat.
The exhaust is currently coated both inside and outside through Jethot, which is significantly more effective than wrap. At this point, a wrap wouldn’t make much of a difference. The problem is the heat being trapped due to the skid plate & there’s zero airflow to let it escape. So the space is basically an oven.
Nah, although having our own mechanic had its perks, it also had its drawbacks (mostly financially - it was significantly more expensive than just using shops and working with shops)
Can you mix 1234yf with 134a? Still, the answer is an emphatic, “No.” Not only would a retrofit of this type negate the environmental benefits of R-1234yf, but it would also be a violation of Federal Law under Section 203 of the Clean Air Act: “tampering” with a vehicle's emissions control device. Best to stick with what’s in your system to avoid potential problems within the system also.
Im surprised the owner let you in there to do any work or filming. Most shops don't let you into their work area. Looks like the Step Child has become a daily work on hobby. Happy Trails to you both.
Do you think it would be a drain to do induction and exhaust fans at the front and back to draw the heat under and out the back? It could be under the skid plated or attached to them. I'm not a mechanic, but I can see it in my head working.
In regards to the exhaust heat around the Atlas, I wonder if it would be possible to design a cooling tunnel or tunnels that run from the front of the Jeep. In theory, it could work like the cooling vent/tunnels used to help cool the brakes in the front of some vehicles.
When it comes to custom builds that’s just how it is right? It’s almost like it’s more of a pain to work on them when there’s more custom stuff done. Crazy how that works lol
12:26 I don't want to be Safety Sally, but please wear safety glasses... I have seen some bad eye injuries and its not pretty for sure. If they are both working please keep both of them that way! 👍🤠
I saw a video the other day the weather is so Cold during the winter they let the car and truck run all night they never turn it off if they do they can not start the car again so cold you pee outside it freezing you got to brake it off great place to test batteries
Nice job Kevin! Good to see Marlin too. Turn that bolt 180 so the nut is on the outside end - the bolt will have room to come out. Too bad the Jeep exhaust can’t be run from engine along the outsides of the frame instead of cooking everything in the center. Vent holes in the skid plate will help a bunch! There’s never a Chris around when you need one! LiteBriteNationConsternation!
In APG’s last video, they announced that they are ready to do V8 swaps ( Coyote and Godzilla). They showed Plan B as they were making the announcement. Is that V8 swap coming soon?
Kevin, I have been trying to find that video where you talked about the secondary battery delete….. can you point me to that or perhaps talk about that again…. I have a 23 JLUR but I have that eTorque thing and wasn’t sure if that would make a difference in deleting that second battery or not.. I would not think it would if its only job is that stupid stop start function….. Much Thanks! 🙏

@@LiteBrite I assumed the wrap would help like double insulation. Maybe Magna-Flow could develop a different exhaust setup from the manifolds. I know it is limited room and routing options down there.
We’re hoping to work with Next Venture Motorsports on some aluminum skids, add some drain holes or venting that could help with managing the heat build up under there

I'm not being shitty here, but it seems like you really ended up with a Frankenbuild. Mismatched joints, arms, etc. As a comment below, I'm shocked you don't have more issues. I know you guys went full full full custom because of Chris, but it might be time to just go to a full system like Evo or Teraflex. You can long arm those. Maybe get a better exhaust set up. I know it might feel like going backwards, but knowing people who run that stuff on tons, they are doing all the things you guys do. Just my 2 cents.
Seems like you've done too much in the way of custom. You've over built things without thinking about the maintenance aspect. It's all coming back to bite you in the ass now.
Well to bad for me I will be doing no more Jeep anything! My Jeep got totaled out Aug 10 sat 3:00pm stupid lady with no license pulled out in front of Me. My Jeep is getting paid off but I’m not getting no money back from it so I’m fucked. I took all my stuff off it that I put on it😭😭😭, so now I have no vehicle at all

l also had this problem with my 2006 rubicon jeep, the A/C wire was melted by the exhaust manifold, l add thermal wrap and it’s holding up fine.

I have had 2 high output alternators to have a current draw when engine is shut off. Also dual exhaust would help with that heat problem.

Try slotting the skid plating for the dispersal of the heat

Nah, although having our own mechanic had its perks, it also had its drawbacks (mostly financially - it was significantly more expensive than just using shops and working with shops)
Maybe to help release heat is to go to dual exhaust and holes in the skid plate to allow cool air above the exhaust

So the antigravity battery has handled the engine bay heat fine?
Don't forget you have been doing a lot more east coast wheeling. I think it is much harder on a vehicle than red rocks / desert wheeling.
I still run the stock tcase skid to let the heat escape.
What stubby bumper are you running in the front? Is that custom?
Put a small blower in the areas that are hot, because of the shields
Make sure your life-saving handle on the bee pillar is nice and tight😂😂😂😂😂
Could you wrap the exhaust inside the skid plate area to help with heat?

If you mix 134 and 1234, no shop will service your rig. We test for cross contamination in these new 1234 systems.
Turn heat wraps around the entire exhaust
You might try some air ducts like NASCAR uses to keep their brakes cooler.
