Thanks so much, from a do-it-yourself Meme' (grandmother). I have a VERY long, heavy duty (yes expensive) extension cord for my electric mower which my neighbor borrowed and ran over. Thankfully it was injured fairly close to the end of the cord so, once repaired, I will still have enough length to reach the parameters of my lawn. I feel confident now, after watching! This is on today's TO-DO list for sure! :)
The most useful thing in here was showing what was called the "pinch plate" and the wire going underneath it. If you've never done this before, you might think the screw head goes directly onto the wire, but sticking it under the plate makes things easier.
Great video. I need to replace the male end on a heavy duty 3 prong extension cord. I noticed the ground wire is pink instead of green. Is that common? Thank you.
Hey I have a question on your Apple CarPlay video you said if I didn’t have a aux port I can connect the unit to my car via Bluetooth and would I be able to connect my phone to the unit for CarPlay all while it’s set up to the unit
Yes it would, in your case you would have the unit connect to your phone via Bluetooth, then have the unit broadcast to your radio in your car through the FM radio. The unit transmits on an FM channel and you set your radio to that channel.
Black to brass makes sense as does green to green, but there is no white screw, it is silver. The other tricky thing about the repair piece is that the attaching screws are not symmetrical but indexed so it can only get fully attached to the other piece in one position.
Great video, I wanted to know how would I replace my security cameras wires. I have old wires running from inside of my house to the cameras on the outside. I wanted to replace the cameras and maybe use the old wires so it would be easier but not sure because the old wires couldn't handle the new cameras. Thank you for your great information and videos
If they are low voltage wires you should be able to run them for the new camera. If your new camera needs romax wires you’d have to pull the old ones and fish new wire through.
very nice! Easy to understand. I accidently caught my extension cord in a hedge trimmer!! However, that new end you showed us doesn't look like it will fit into the reciptical end of the trimmer. Can you use another smaller plug? Thanks in advance.
I always use an exacto knife and run it down the length of the outer sheath for 1 in and then go around the circumference from there. That way I avoid cutting the insulation on the wires. That requires less talent dexterity wise which I am very lacking in hahaha
how about a 12g extension cord that got cut off away from the plug and now does not work. How to properly connect 2 ends of the wire which is middle of the extension cord.
ferrules don't hurt even with raising clamp. or you could loop it around even there. one could also crimp rings on. plus having ground longer is good idea also, reason being that if it's longest it breaks last. and you really want for it to break last. it only takes you tiny bit time to cut l/n shorter. how much longer, it depends, use common sense
if ferrules don't exist when you need them, you can also loop back the end if terminal allows it. it also could help with some breakers, etc, just make sure it fits. this is for direct screw cases. also don't forget that if you twist strands before crimp it would break them under pressure. twisting helps to avoid loose strands but it's not always optimal for actual connection. also too much pressure is as bad as too little. nevermind that those loose over time too. test and check. if you're unsure, test once, esp if you're like me who overtightens things. just cut the tested part off after it. btw spare slack in fixed installs are just so you don't need to use same end again. happy electrical works, if you diy, at least diy right, as you'll diy anyway
Extension Cord End with BOTH ends: amzn.to/3D7DS09
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen and used.
I just got done fixing one of my extension cords with the very same end you used in this video....thanks

Bummer about the cord, you got this!
Nice tutorial. Straight to the point, easy to follow.
Thanks for the clear directions!
Great job! This is an easy DIY project for most people which can be done safely and saves an expensive cord! Love your content! 🎉
Thank you sir! Just checked out your channel, you've got some quality stuff up there (and a quality beard to boot!)
Good job.

Interesting, I’ve been run into a pink ground.

Thank you brother

Yay! I needed this!
Glad we could help!
Thank you sooooo much!!!!

I’d use a repair splice in that situation, you would then retain the original plug end.
Thanks for all your help! The 1 you suggested is working just fine!
@@virginiamichel3112 Awesome!

Good tip!
Hey buddy, the stash?? It's gone......... Haha. Great video, cleaner then mine I made. Haha.
My facial hair changes like the seasons….
Can I replace my cord that has a GFI switch to a regular pigtail like the one you have on your video as long as the same voltage
You can, but you're sacrificing safety by removing the GFI.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Nice
Do you no longer need an underwrighters knot?
Not with the clamp on these style of cord ends.

Ouch I wish you would have said to unplug the extension cord first, it freaking shocked me. Lol jk nice video dude
No colors on the socket plug!
LLC never dovaeexa clear white to white. Conveniently goes blurry
??????
I just repaired both ends of my extension cord with the same plugs😊
Now what about fixing other end?
Same thing, just buy the end you need repaired
@DoItYourselfDad Cool. The screws all marked the same too?
Yup, exactly the same 👍
