The Captivity of Sin w/ Fr. John Riccardo - The Bible Timeline Show w/ Jeff Cavins

- Do you ever feel imprisoned by sin? Throughout the Old Testament, the Israelites underwent captivity on multiple occasions, enduring a 70-year exile. In an insightful conversation, Fr. John Riccardo joins Jeff Cavins to delve into this period of Exile as depicted in the Bible Timeline. Beyond merely exploring historical events, they draw parallels to contemporary experiences of feeling imprisoned or alienated. Fr. Riccardo argues that individuals today face something even more insidious than exile-being held captive by the power of sin. Fr. Riccardo and Jeff dissect the root causes underlying this spiritual captivity and offer pathways toward liberation from sin's grasp.

Amazing conversation. I was born, raised, baptized in the Baptist Church. I’m 69. After a personal tragedy, I dove head first in the Bible, 10 years ago, I was on my 4th read through the Bible; I met an amazing Sister of the Catholic Church. Our conversation led me to RCIA and this past Easter I’ve been Catholic for 3 years. I see cradle Catholics who come to RCIA to learn about the Bible cause once Baptized, Confirmed, they don’t read the Bible. Your Mission is desperately needed. Especially about the reality of satan, for he ultimately wants us not to believe in his existence. Praise God, thankyou for your vocation. 🙏💕✝️
Thank you Fr. John and Mr. Jeff. This is powerful. Prayed for both of you.
Father Riccardo. You are absolutely right. ❤
Yes amen
So my non-catholic spouse wanted to be Catholic and she brought me back into the church and taught me the essence of God's love.
Thanks!
Love the Rescue Project!!
Please keep doing more of these. Churches need more social activities to bring people in. There's so many that people are interested in. So many topics people would love to hear about. Thank you for doing this. So many today uninformed on bible and how life is so much better when we are learning it. 🙏
With all do respect, churches do not need more “social programs” to “bring people in”.
Catechesis needs to be streamlined for people to understand with an emphasis on Catholic morality.
Love love Fr. John
I may end up watching this every day! Thank you so much Mr. Cavins and Fr. Riccardo!
Fr. John is great!! Thank you for this episode!!
I totally totally totally agree. I’m 77 and what you described is exactly true.
But thankfully in my 30s, I discovered the Lord in a deeper way and had a born-again experience and started deeply into the Bible.
I have been studying it deeply forever since.
I’ve listened to all of Jeff Cavins Bible studies.
I’ve listened to many many of them.
I listen online I read I do it all and that has transformed my life.
And now I have daughters And grandkids and the only place they heard the Bible was at the Christian school up the road.
I’m sick of the Catholic situation but I’m still Catholic and I’m doing my best to share my faith with others.
Thank you for all of what you’re talking about because you are right on target.
Thank you.
You're right where you need to be! Thank you for letting us pray with you 💛
Thank you for this discussion. We need to hear and believe that we are sons and daughters of God the Father. We need to hear and believe that God is Love and He Loves us unconditionally.
Father John has a great ministry in Acts XXIX - The Rescue Project. It is truly life changing. I go back to it again and again. I enjoy praying the Rosary with him as well. It's on the Acts XXIX page.
My goodness what an amazing conversation! Thank you so much for this. Thank you to the both of you may God continue to bless you and give you the wisdom to keep passing it on to all those who do not know. I feel that way right now too Fr. Ricardo I can feel God's presence in me and I don't want to let go... I long for him, I desire know the story (our story) and I pray that I do learn it and that I'm able to pass it on to everyone around me. Father in Heaven please don't let go of me...
This conversation was so good and so relevant. I love how Fr John broke it down so simply on how to evangelise by just inviting people in our home and making friends. So simple and yet so underrated and not talked about.
Thank you Fr. Riccardo! You are spot on!! Friendship in Christ is the best way to evangelize. Jesus started with a friendship group who spread the Gospel message outside the church walls, so that they could then invite their friends in to come together to worship, learn, pray, and be fed regularly by our Lord and each other. And thank you Jeff Cavins, I listen to your reflections every morning. In addition to the Rescue Project, I invite folks to consider various evangelization apostolates such as the Cursillo movement which includes the motto "Make a friend, Be a friend, Bring your friend to Christ." It's founder focused on the importance of carrying the message that “God loves us,” especially to the faraway, the “others,” the unbelievers, the indifferent. The movement is structured around this philosophy.
I have followed Jeff Cavin for several years through my church’s Bible Study groups, especially his Bible Timeline study, this is the first time I have met Fr. John Riccardo. I would like to get to know him better so would appreciate any feedback I could receive in this regard. Thanks in advance for any and all help.🙏🙏🙏
Hi, I recommend you look into Acts XXIX The Rescue Project. It is life changing. I go back to it again and again. God Bless you
Fr. John helped me see the truth of Catholicism. First through Ave Maria radio. I've created a digital library of two separate and complete RCIA sessions... one in the late 2000's and one in the early 2010's.
He is a wonderful teacher!
It was a very inspiring and informative segment. Amen! ❤ Thank you.
I see Fr. John has given the different ways of accessing his Ministry at the end of this podcast: I’ll certainly follow up.
this just hit the core on so many levels. every statement hit home. what a phenomenal episode. thank you and God bless you! sharing this for sure.
Serenity prayer is very helpful
Thank you!! I needed to hear this. I feel so lost living in a country falling apart and a church with no leadership. My parish is weak and sometimes feels Protestant. Thank you, thank you the reminder to seek courage and wisdom!! God will win. He always does.
Wow! Love this so much. Don’t think I’ve heard the “gospel” put into such a beautiful nutshell. Thank you both so much! May the Lord bless y’all abundantly.
Love,
From Colombo, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
Father God bless you. Thank you for explaining the Truth for me
Thanks for the excellent talk show.
Very encouraging too
I enjoyed this interview!
Thank you, Jeff!!
I did the "Restore" book. I love it & will pick it up again soon. I haven't heard anything from Fr. John lately but quoted him in a comment about sin the other day. How, sin isn't bad because it's wrong but it's wrong because it's bad for us. I hope I got it right. I used to listen to you on the road. Did AI place this UA-cam video in my feed?🤔 Thankful!
Amen! I'll finish later.💟
Love the show this is a great conversation

We all can have our opinions and respectfully disagree. I keep hearing how there are so many isolated people. That's not good. Church is a wonderful place to meet people and grow in faith. Many blessings.
My Dad read the Bible. We kept it on the coffee table, he picked it up and read it. He put the Bible back on the coffee table.
You know the other topic that is not addressed (from my experience of course) is PRAYER, e.g. lectio divina. Talks about the contemplatives, meditation, etc.
I grew up with the pastor actually saying not to read the Bible because we wouldn't understand it....
do you want to cry? 😢
parish small faith group of 10, conducting Lectio Divina, that is being conducted within our parish of 38 groups, along with bible studies, including EXODUS 90 and MAGNA 90.
True also of non Catholic Christians after Covid
The best medical care in the world, but only affordable to a small segment of the country, Father.
So why has the church not moved to having bibles in the pews or bringing your own bible? This is the easiest way, especially for our younger ones to become comfortable with it.
Bibles are available in all book stores and on- line. Why not " everyone needs to own his/her own Bible "
A friend is a priest in Mexico and he has done that for many years. The lector told what book, and “it is after x and before y”, waited for people to find it. I asked our priest here (US) many years ago, and he said it would be a group Bible reading and not the proclamation. (I dont know what the right answer is)
@@klabiaga3684I can understand that. It just seems that there must be a better way, especially for our youth, to become better acquainted with and comfortable with the use of the Bible.
did you ever hear the whole letter of paul to anybody in church or anywhere?
A card/boardgame get together of Jesus and His Church conquering sin and death
Sorry they did what to Egypt? Could he have gotten this wrong, Egypt?
The Apostle Paul plainly taught not to be unequally yoked with an unbeliever. What if both are Christians but not in agreement on doctrine etc? That also seems to be unequally yokes.
Lectionaries should be tossed or used in pre-K catechism classes; grade school level and up need the Bible -----and all of the Bible without all the modernist theological ideologies that are so liberally attached to its meaning these days, that water down, stifle, and nullify the power contained within the word of God.
Crazy came to turn 666 into 667 views.
They're not big on childbirth, and remove Egypt, and sorry what do we look like? Hydra? We look like Hydra up there,
blasphemy is teaching anything not found in the Bible. Catholicism teaches blasphemy.
I was really moved by this conversation! Minute 32 mark - whew, fr. john was not kidding when he said he can do this in 5 minutes! 🥹 I got the best surprise when I saw The Rescue Project community challenge in Hallow! I’ll get more of the good news and mission detail from you there. God bless your ministry and may I also in my own section of the vineyard play my part in Acts 29. 💚💚💚
