- Jeff was raised in a good loving Catholic home. When he was 18, his Evangelical girlfriend led him to a personal relationship with Christ. After high school, he had a rift from his father and the Church and decided to go to an Evangelical Bible College. Upon graduation, he worked briefly in radio, and was eventually ordained as a Protestant minister.
After pastoring for about 8 years, Jeff started seeing passages in the Bible that sounded more Catholic than Protestant, on such topics as Apostolic Authority, Tradition, and the Eucharist. When Jeff saw St. John Paul II on television at World Youth Day, in Denver in 1993, he realized that that was his Father and his family, and he must return Home to the Catholic Church.

I love this show! I was so delighted today to stumble on this older episode with Jeff Cavins. He has been such a blessing to me in my journey home. I have a similar story about leaving the church at age 23 for 37 years and wandering about nondenominational churches before returning. To hear him explain the Catholic faith so clearly has been a very important aspect in my return which began 4 years ago this Easter 2015. Thank you Marcus, Thank you Jeff and thank you EWTN. PS: I have had the pleasure of studying the scriptures through the Great Adventure Bible Study with Jeff these last two year. We have just completed the Gospel of Matthew and can hardly wait for the next study on the Book of Acts.

We, as Catholics honor Mary, as she was the first sacred Tabernacle for the Lord, so we Love her and giver the honor she greatly deserves. Plus she became our Mother thru our Lord Jesus. We just ask her for her intercession to plead for us! Just like other religions have chain prayers.
We only idolize and Glorify only Our Lord Jesus Christ!
This was always one of the most direct and solid witnesses of (re)conversion that I've seen on the Journey Home, and I've seen hundreds of episodes of JH. Jeff's training and persona makes him an ideal face for the Church. This episode is a top five must-see show for all people, not just for the highly-studied or the the common person. Wow Wow Wow I was under the impression that you Jeff left the church there in Bloomington because you felt that you needed formal training like seminary. Boy was I wrong, after listening to this video. I have always missed hearing you preach since you left us. As to this day I have never heard anyone preach the Gospel with such anointing and power as you did. Specifically once when you were reenacting the story of Christ as he commanded Lazarus to come forth, I still have goose bumps, because I felt like I was actually there and again the power of the Holy Spirit was indescribable! I'll never forget it was you that water baptized me and several others in your apartment swimming pool, or the time you helped my family cope with my Grandmother Millie's funeral, I think it was your first funeral you performed. I'm glad you are happy now and not sure why you felt you needed to go back home as you put it. Yes I heard every word you said but I don't think I will really ever understand what drew you back to Catholicism until we meet in heaven. I wish you all the best........ The argument of the the almost ''30.000 protestant denominations'' isn't very strong. In fact and in reality, there are two main theologies (calvinism vs arminianism) as in traditional christianity there are two main streams of theological approach the Catholic and the Orthodox. My experience is that these two main streams of traditional christianity are mutually exclusive.

The Catholic church and the various Protestant churches attempt to lure each other into a strange circular argument regarding the doctrinal debate over "Tradition Vs Sola Scriptura" (the bible alone). The Catholic faction gets Protestants arguing against all traditions rather than just the inventions of men; and more specifically, the inventions of the Catholic Church. The argument is really against traditions of men that are not supported by the written word of God. The Catholics will not regard scripture because they are pushing so hard on the point of traditions that they attempt to prove traditions by traditions, or extrabiblical writings, rather than with scripture. The Protestants won't consider the oral transmission of God's word because they push the written text only. The circle is a dizzying spiral that leads to nowhere fast. Who do you believe? We should always believe God's own testimony. Why? because He is infallible and True. [Numbers 23:19 ]"God is not a man, that he should lie...." [Heb 6:18] "... it was[ and is] impossible for God to lie..." The apostle Peter had learned this and his words recorded in the bible's book of The Acts of The Apostles 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
The Bible and tradition both teach that our convictions are not to be based upon human wisdom but upon the power of God and His spirit which He gives to those who obey Him! The problem is not that human (carnal) wisdom is always wrong but that human wisdom is clearly fallible and is not a sufficient foundation for believing anything about God. Hence our doctrinal convictions should not be based upon human wisdom. The apostle Paul warned against such and we see that he knew this because of the written word of God.
1Corinthians 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. ... 1Co 3:18 ¶ Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
Your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. We will endeavor to build 'line upon line' to show the truth of the matter, to build you up in the Word, and to strengthen you in Christ.
That dizzying argument goes on excessively on YT videos, with both groups of Christians bickering on and on, and on, and on.....ad infinitum! So interesting that the Bible is so Jewish when you read it, that it is interesting that Jeff saw Roman Catholicism vs. the content in which it was written. Another one who misunderstands the Matt. 16:18. Sorry he did not do a word morphology study! Actually Nathaniel was the first one to get the revelation of Jesus vs. Peter. Well, may Jeff continue to be blessed in his Christian journey.

Question? Jesús died on the cross not Mary and the Bible clearly states that the only way to God is thru Christmas then why the reverence to Mary. Jesus is my savior.
On the cross Jesus said to us 'behold your mother' - pointing to Mary - and he entrusted her to John but her motherhood is for us all and her role is to pray for us - thus we pray: Hail Mary full of grace.... By adding Mary's prayers to our own imperfect pleas, we push open the door to her son
That is one way to look at it but 1 Timothy 2:5 says ,For there is one God,and one mediator between God and men,the man Christ Jesus. Jesus is our lawyer and He has not lost a case so I am going strictly to Him in order to get to the Father. There is no other name than Jesus.

And yes Jesus is our mediator to God, but Mary is our mediator to Christ, just like the role of the queen mother in the Old Testament.
We don`t need people like you as pastors of Jesus`s church. That is why God Himself removed you. Jesus is the real shepherd and He protects His church from wolves dressed up in sheep`s clothing. None of your bible verses go contrary to the church. God's church can be the only one which even dates back to him, which is the Catholic Church
