    I like that you indicated that this method (clutch only) works only in a truck. Don't do this in a small petrol engine you'll stall or roll backwards.

      it works in most cars too mate,, some smaller ones obviously dont have the power but most do

  • @Sinister_Reaper
    @Sinister_Reaper 3 роки тому

    But also if you start in too low of a gear you won't be able to get into the next gear without forcing it

      correct! you need to find the RIGHT gear for take off.

    Thankyou bro I’ve learned a lot from your vids as a roadranger driver. I embarrassed myself today as I had some load and was trying to start going up a little bit of a steep from a traffic stop and it cut out on me a couple of times even rolled the truck back a little; luckily no one was close but had to go all the way back to gear one for a hill start and was feeling very bad at the end of it not to mention scared I might’ve wrecked the gearbox. All your videos are gold mate as they’re extremely well informative for someone interested in the ins and outs of a RR gearbox

    Sir a good video, I am a 40 year veteran driver in the United States still driving. I have tried to explain that to some young folks here, but they tell me YOU CAN'T START A TRUCK LIKE THAT. I give up, you just can't fix stupid.
    Again good video sir

      Here in Maine it's the standard technique for a hill start on the state exam. Set your brakes, catch the friction point, release the brakes and let the truck do all the work.

    • @gavinspearritt4910
      @gavinspearritt4910 4 роки тому +2

      Yes,, but depending on your all up weights, you may have to use crawl gear, ie first till ya get to a position where you can change up,, the trick is learning your prime mover an what its capable of,,

    For people from India, friction point described here is called the biting point, in the context of the terminology used in India’s truck training schools.

    Nice example, so if stopped on a hill and it's time to move again, can you also put the engine in 1st gear, release the foot brake, ease off the clutch and maybe a little gas and the vehicle should move or not move at all but should not roll backwards?

    so you cannot do this with just the foot brake
    for most trucks it would be apply the tractor brakes ( pull yellow button out ), then push yellow it [ release to go ] )
    I don't think a licensing road test would allow using your tractor parking brake.
    but maybe once you got your license, its ok.

    I don't know why you had to use the emergency brake. My vehicle has power brakes, so if you hold that power brake it will not go anywhere. Find the friction point, go from the brake to the throttle, and your going. Your method is going to destroy clutches. If you have a foot brake, I have no idea why you would bother with an emergency hand brake. Very strange.

    • @michaelandrews4783
      @michaelandrews4783 2 роки тому

      On a loaded Truck I was taught to do it this way as you must NOT tickle the accelerator while the gear is not fully engaged as you will destroy the gearbox. Correct Method is you put it into 1st or low gear depending on the hill ease foot off clutch then foot brake and THEN accelerate

    my dad teached me how to hill start in a 86" Hilux when I was 12, it was on the steepest hill in town I think it was around a 25-30% incline
    yeah! the bitting point technique is the way to go for hill starts on lighter vehicles it was a piece of cake on the Hilux since it has the shortest 1st gear in the universe! 😂
    petrol cars on the other hand needs a bit more revs to push it up a hill.
    for heavier vehicles, yeah my dad told me it is better to do the hand brake technique just for safety 😂
