I gotta get that 4K of Once Upon a Time in the West. My all time favorite western. The tension of that opening scene is unrivaled. And Fonda against type as the villain is sensational.
Really like you branching out into the film aspect of sea of tranquility I am also a 4K Disc, physical media collector, and appreciate you giving reviews of this stuff
Fantastic top 25. My 4K top picks in no particular order are: The Witchfinder General Blood on Satan's Claw From Beyond (Arrow) The Silence of the Lambs (Arrow) Late Night with the Devil (Second Sight) Blow Out (Criterion) Peeping Tom (Studio Canal) Alligator 1 & 2 (101 Films) The Amityville Horror (88Films) Basket Case (Arrow) Patrick (Powehouse) Night of the Eagle (studio Canal) A Nightmare on Elm Street The Terminator Blazing Saddles Demolition Man (Arrow)
I watched North by Northwest for the first time over the Christmas break and I loved it. The acting and the plot are great and that 4K transfer is absolutely phenomenal. That release is highly recommended. Regarding the giallo films, fans of the genre should also check out Arrow's recent 4K edition of the Sergio Martino flick, Torso.
Got quite a few of these including North By Northwest, The Departed, High Noon, The Abyss, Furiosa A Mad Max Saga, Dune Part 2, I Walk With A Zombie/The Seventh Victim, Godzilla Minus One (The exclusive Box from September), Godzilla X Kong, The roaring Twenties, And Scarface (Original).
I was in London a few months ago and looking at your Enter the Dragon on the shelf, I went and bought The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, The Way of the Dragon and Game of Death along with the aforementioned - all in 4K, courtesy of Arrow Films UK. The transfer of those films is stellar! I was also intrigued with The Final Game of Death disc that came with TWotD - but early stock items gave us a different disc from the Golden Harvest boxset instead. Still waiting for my replacement disc to arrive. Should look into that Twister 4K as I owned the Laser disc back in the day. And I actually quite liked Twisters too. Must see North by Northwest someday despite buying the Bluray years ago. As for High Noon, I still recall my old Film School lecturer going through a shot analysis of a particular scene where Gary Cooper steps out to see Grace Kelly leaving town. As for Dune, Part 2 - I wish Denis Villeneuve would release the deleted scenes!!!!!! Gotta pick up that Godzilla Minus One especially the Minus Colour version... And my most recent purchase lately? Blake's 7 for the first time on Bluray. Series 1 with new updated FX, kinda reminiscent of what was done with Star Trek TOS and Classic Doctor Who.
I collect animation, so my favorites 4Ks this year are Paprika (the Satoshi Kon film), Boy and the Heron (Miyazaki's newest film), and Coraline. I'll thrown in Wish as well, even though as a movie it's pretty dull just, if only for the steelbook it comes in that looks better than the movie itself. I don't have it yet, but Seven Samurai 4k was released this year by Criterion. (so many others that I only heard about this year that were actually released in the last couple of years, including the Heavy Metal 4k steelbook with the only blu-ray (that I know of) of Heavy Metal 2000 and Millenium Actress (import)).

Hiya Pete👍👍…Healthy and Happy New Year to you and your family✅…The “Jaws” franchise is a case of diminishing returns, the scripts are ridiculous and why they just don’t work…Thanx so much for everything ya do⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
I still own a ton of DVDs, and still have a DVD player that works, but I'm thinking about switching to a different player. I've heard that 4K players will play both DVDS and Blu Rays. Is that true?
Yes, at least the player I own does (a Sony) which is good because 70% of my collection are DVDs (most of which are titles not yet released on bluray or 4k).
Yes. Any mid-level 4K player from Panasonic or Sony will play anything you throw at it. They will also upscale your DVDs and standard Blu Rays to make them look their absolute best.
Does the 4k and picture look better than blu-ray cause I really like blu-ray. I have all my equipment played through a soundbar I like listening to my concert vhs 📼 tapes dvds and blu-rays cds from my five disc changer and my home theater dvd player played through my sound bar .Great movies 🎬 that awesome you buy movie 🎬 all my friends at work like to stream movies 🎬 they always pick on me for watching dvds and blu-rays.
If you are a fan of Apocalypse Now, the 4k version is supposed to be very good. Unfortunately I haven’t gotten my copy yet to give a review of the 4k version.
The actual 4k of "Daughters Of Darkness" looks amazing. Be interested to know what you make of "The Moor". For me, it's the creepiest English language folkhorror in a long time.
Wow, I knew nothing of 4k discs... you always bring the best content man. Oh, but don't get the new planet of the apes on 4k... such a boring movie hahaha but I guess you must have liked it
I am still waiting if The Criterion Collection is going to put out the blu-ray of the 1971 movie "The Telephone Book" starring the late Jill Clayburgh (who wears a mask to cover her eyes) & former actress Sarah Kennedy (who later was on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" in the final season from September 1972 till March 1973 which I do have the 6th & final season on DVD & a Goldie Hawn wannabe & retired from acting in early 1982) which was Rated "X" because Sarah goes on a train while a man watches while sitting & drops her clothes. That movie was indeed released on blu-ray from a different company but it is out of print. I am also waiting for the 1972 thriller drama "The Other" (Rated "PG" BUT it might have been "PG13") starring actress Diana Muldaur (which I do have on regular DVD) which is not on blu-ray yet.
Loved the show Pete - I am still on Blu Ray but was interested to hear your comments as I have been hesitant about upgrading yet again having been through the whole VCR / DVD / Blu Ray cycle. Of particular note were your comments regarding Conan The Barbarian and the The Roaring Twenties.....thank you!
@ growing up it was always Ace Freshley. Same with Berenstein Bears Figured if there would be anyplace that would possibly remember him as Ace Freshley, it would be here

Older movies really excel on 4K!! I have North By Northwest and Just received The Searchers on 4k and they both are stunning 😎
Thank you Pete. This is the first I’m hearing of it. I am going to go buy one this week.
Do you change your tv settings when you watch a 4k disc?
Another Western worth getting is Criterion's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
Fantastic top 25.

Truly the appropriate motto for those of us in Gen. X is 'here we are now, entertain us'.

I purchased the 4K for Conan the barbarian, and I love it.

The Warriors (1979) was finally released on 4K! Are you going to get it?
You can stream all these movies in 4K as well.

Yes, came out a few years ago…it’s incredible.
Pete/ totally loved this theme / spin off. Super entertaining/ great flow. Thanks for your time 👍💯
The actual 4k of "Daughters Of Darkness" looks amazing. Be interested to know what you make of "The Moor". For me, it's the creepiest English language folkhorror in a long time.
Tom Jones 1970 song "Daughter Of Darkness" is my favorite song by Tom as well as my late mom.
Really enjoyed this one Pete, would be great to see more stuff like this 👍🏻
Nice work Pete. As a guy who loves physical media, and has not updated to 4K yet, this list is a good start. Happy New Year!
Wow, I knew nothing of 4k discs... you always bring the best content man. Oh, but don't get the new planet of the apes on 4k... such a boring movie hahaha but I guess you must have liked it
Saw it in the theater…totally dug it!
I wanna get SpongeBob in 4K format someday!

When is the next Monster’s Den episode? Assume the holidays made it tough to get the guys together, but we miss the show.
Third Thursday of each month going forward.
@@seaoftranquilityprog I miss the santa grab bag this year, love that format hope you bring it back at some point!
Just a reminder, its no longer Ace Freshley, its Ace Frehley
Huh?
@ its really weird, but yeah. Was watching a video on rock musicians and thought they deliberately missnamed him for comments
@ growing up it was always Ace Freshley. Same with Berenstein Bears
Figured if there would be anyplace that would possibly remember him as Ace Freshley, it would be here
👍 thanks Pete now your going to make me spend money😂
For today I would have picked PINK FLOYD Wish You Were Here as important album of 1975. NOT MY FAVORITE!
I think you have commented on the wrong video
Westerns are my favorite movies to watch, how about a show talking about classic Western movies!
Westerns are phenomenal, maybe still my fav genre👍👍-Just saw “Hang’Em High”(1954) what a gritty film, Clint is a legend no doubt⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
