I definitely see what you mean about NPCs in Breath of the Wild. It's like the polar opposite of Majora's Mask, where every NPC has an actual schedule and stuff happens to them as time passes, BotW NPCs are just kind of in their own little pocket of time and don't change a whole lot. Triforce Heroes is fun with friends IMO! I played the demo, and bought the game... and then never played the full game because I could never get a group together.
Totally agree with A Link to the Past being the top 2D Zelda :p lots of nostalgia for the Oracle games, but...Link to the Past is always gonna be the best 2D Zelda >.< Also, agreed on the Twilight Princess take. My personal favorite Zelda, and it's always nice to see some love for it. Way too little of that out there. Kinda similar with Windwaker (though that one has gotten a lot more love lately). That one deserves some credit that I rarely hear anyone give it: It's the reason we have different art styles in Zelda today. Until then, all games were just doing the best they could on their respective console. Wind Waker was the first one that didn't go for pushing the system to its limits, but instead went with a unique style. And that's why Zelda is so open to have any style for their games these days. Still don't really get what everyones issues were with Fi, by the way. I didn't even remember her saying a whole lot in the game until I heard literally everyone complain about it X3 Also, there is one game missing from the gag at the end. Tingle had a spin off game, too :p (actually several, but only one that has an english translation) PS: that video about Zelda dungeons sounds interesting~
Interesting take on BOTW (though one I can def understand and will have to ponder), and BOTW vs. TOTK (I beat TOTK yesterday and still have thoughts bouncing around. IMO: some things were awesome, but a lot seemed half baked. I think BOTW was the tighter and better thought out game). Did you like Kass as an NPC? why/why not? (I loved him, but his characterization isn’t terribly deep either) For Hyrule Warriors Calamity: your opinion’s fair, but there’s no way they’d release a game that railroaded the player into a tragic ending, in a (pre)story already (well) told in a different game…. inserting folks into the BOTW back story, with the inevitable goal of defeating ganon before the calamity, I think is the only way you can do a prequel game. That said, it probably would have done better on like an RTS w/champions game instead of Dynasty warriors. Finally, thanks for the rec for Okami. It’s half off now so I got it (though I just did BOTW and TOTK back to back over 500+ hours and I want to do something completely different for now). The reviews look great and it looks intriguing - especially since I’m familiar with the legend (even visited her shrine at Ise Japan lol)

Tri Force Heroes is FUN but it requires two other friends to enjoy. Teamwork is essential but most people played it solo or with random players online as it's hard to find 2 people willing to play the whole game with you. That's why it got a bad rep and wasn't talked about much. If you do find two friends willing to play with you, you're in for a good time.
Triforce Heroes is meh… I found it to be forgettable. It does have some uniqueness to it, but not enough to make this game great. The online multiplayer aspect isn’t the greatest either. When I did it, I kept on getting bots that would throw you off any cliff or wait for an eternity. The switching between the “copies” , I could never get use to. Especially when you’re trying to clear the level with a time challenge. It’s a silly spin off. I played it mostly for the costume sets and story. I found Four Sword Adventures to be my number 1 choice for multiplayer and solo.
Majora's Mask is my favorite, OoT is second... I'm a huge Groundhog Day fan... which explains why. I agree that BotW and TotK lack memorable NPCs. I hated weapon durability in BotW when I first played it, also I missed a lot of Zelda Mainstays... memorable over world music and dungeons, but I went back and played it and loved it for what it is, an open sandbox. TotK is much better than BotW, fuse and time recall make it a much better sandbox, weapon durability isn't as bad since you can constantly fuse. It is a huge game, play time wise, maybe a little too huge. I loved a Link between Worlds, Cat 2 for me. I played Link to the past as a preteen and LbW brings back all those childhood memories, its really good. I actually love SS, Cat 2 A rank for me,... I had to learn the controls which took awhile and was super frustrating but I have good memories of it. I pick up and play the 3D/HD versions of these every once in awhile, just for fun but other than OoT3D and WWHD I don't really think of HDs as definitive editions... Fun video! c:
Triforce Heroes is like...4 swords lite? Its weird. Like Majora's mask it has next to no connection to Zelda, Ganon or the Triforce. Like the original 4 Swords its level based, commanding a team of 3 to get around, using 1 item at a time etc. The gimmick besides it being a 3 player adventure is the ability to make costumes for various effects. It honestly leaves much to be desired and is incredibly forgetable which is why no one dicusses it. Even with friends I don't see it being fun, just there.
I (almost) completely disagree about Age of Calamity, step-draggo. With multiplayer performance aside, I have not played with someone else. And I'm sorry but I'm countering most of what you say in the video because I feel like you're very misrepresenting the game. The game was originally marketed as a prequel to BotW, and for the most part it is, until you see the things that start to change or things like Terako that shouldn't be there. And when you see the Calamity erupt before Zelda can even go to the Spring of Wisdom, you really know things are different, but still only minimally, what happens next is where it gets set apart. I don't think that's a notch off the game, I like when Nintendo doesn't give up everything about the game before it comes out, and for it to have a big plot twist in the middle the way it did, I loved it. You also mention that the champions all know they're going to die...except not, the player knows but they don't. Early on Zelda and gang see the destruction caused by the Calamity reviving, from images recorded by the guardian. But the champions don't KNOW they're going to die, this was before they were even recruited. For much of the game everyone continues going forward to build up their forces and prevent the Calamity, the same as what BotW told us about in memories and text walls, then later in Chapter 4 they learn the date of the revival. Like, up until we see the Calamity break free early in the day before she goes to the Spring of Wisdom (instead of when they're returning), most of the events are the same as BotW plot 100 years ago. Even with hints of differences because of Terako and the new enemy Astor, the first more than half of the game is a prequel. It isn't until after the Calamity breaks out that Zelda finally learns that even the divine beasts will be controlled by it, this wasn't known to them beforehand, only to us after playing BotW. But I loved the plot twist that really splits this off from BotW history, seeing Riju meet Urbosa face to face, while the gorons be gorons and bird boys be grumpy together. And for Mipha to see her brother all strong and grown up, and for Sidon to feel the satisfaction of saving his sister, his biggest regret because he was a child at the time and even if she won't be there when he returns to his own time. I loved it. You say the story of the game is how they avoid the Calamity and live...except it isn't. Aside from a few things here and there, the first more than half of the game plays out as it did in BotW. It isn't until Terako's powers bring out the big plot twist of summoning the descendant champions to save the original champions that things change. You say the game downplays the Calamity and all that, except it doesn't. We experience the build up to the Calamity instead of being told about it, and even after the big plot twist, it's still a BIG thing and no easy task. There's 20 main missions to the base game, and 13 of them are played before the Calamity hits, 13 main missions where it is straight prequel with minor differences (Terako and Astor). The next two missions are the plot twists where BotW current champions are pulled through time, the next 5 missions are in an altered timeline where they get to save what's left of the kingdom. So it is 12 missions of building up to sad, first mission of chapter 5 Hyrule castle and central Hyrule field are destroyed, towns destroyed and people all over lost their lives because they didn't prevent the Calamity. And something you repeat a few times about Nintendo not wanting a sad ending, Nintendo didn't make it. This was one of the Koei Tecmo Hyrule Warriors games, which you acknowledge for complaining about Warriors games being over the top. But you keep saying Nintendo didn't want sad, which after MM, TP, the Calamity destroying Hyrule pre-BotW, I'd argue that isn't the case. You also say people didn't want this, I know that myself and plenty others love it and did want this, it's a great game. But even then, previous games, BotW history, and even in this game there are big sad. But Nintendo has NEVER ended a Zelda game on a sad note, despite everything that happens before or during gameplay, the games all end on happy notes, to change that just wouldn't be Zelda. And again, Koei Tecmo made it, not Nintendo. Probably the biggest thing is that Age of Calamity doesn't try to be silly over the top. I get that being a Warriors game with fighting obscene amounts of enemies is a bit silly over the top, but that's how 100 years ago Link is described as in Breath of the Wild. I and many others acknowledge that a Warriors type game is the only real way of showing 100 years ago Link at his full power. I just disagree with that, it's not over the top cheese, and it does hit the destruction of Hyrule. The Calamity breaks out, guardians are controlled and destroy all over, there's a mission where you pilot Vah Naboris in central Hyrule and the towns there at the start of the game are gone. The only difference with this game compared to BotW is they get to fight back before being completely defeated in BotW history and that the champions and king survive. There's still death and destruction all over. I love you draggo, but I feel it was you that missed the mark with this game, not this game missing the mark.
Also, something I completely forgot to mention because it wasn't a counter to anything. But Age of Calamity is the MOST voice acted Zelda game to date. And with how much voice acting they did for the game, the LACK of significant voice acting in Tears was....disappointing.
While I'm generally down for civil debating, I feel like a post that ends with a passive-aggressive jab at me is not really inviting a proper conversation. As stated in the video, I'm happy for anyone who enjoyed any of the games I didn't like! My stance still remains the same on them and I am not really up for debating people who act hostile towards those with differing opinions. Sorry!
