When I first saw Mrs. Myfordboy preparing food, I thought, well this is surreal, and then it did cross my mind that the forge was going to be a tool for cooking food, then when it happened I felt....everything is right with the world and I was smiling. Delightful
Those casting are coming out crisper and cleaner as time goes on. Excellent work. I'm sure you are pleased.... Thanx for all your hard work. Kindest Anna
Love your channel. I realise this vid is 4+ years old, but I only recently found your channel and subed. In the '90's I worked in a machine shop that had a gas fired furnace about 50% bigger than yours. It fed a gravity die casting machine that produced about 50 parts per hour. There was a perforated metal basket above the furnace to preheat the "off cuts" from previous castings. That's where my lunch went :) On the 2~3 days a month when the foundry was run there was no lunch break, and I ran it 10 hours straight. So lunch on the go was most appreciated.
Nice one David! - Great video as always ;-) Great castings and a great lunch too!, I can't believe your misses cuts the red peppers and onions just like my mom does! - This is so ironic!! You always make metal casting look like child's play - A true professional.
I enjoy listening to the English countryside in your videos. the birds are the best...I thought I heard a sheep or cow in some of your other videos. the occasional passing vehicle doesn't really bother me because it's so infrequent compared to where I live (next to 10 lane highway) really is a peaceful, beautiful countryside, especially up north and the Midlands, the Peak District is especially beautiful ....sounds like I'm about due for another trip over lol
Well this is an interesting video. It is I believe the first time we get to see Mrs Myfordboy, plus a demonstration of myfordboy's cooking skills with his new oil fired furnace. Is a myfordboy furnace cooking channel on the cards perhaps? The castings appear to be turning out better than ever now. Keep up the good work, we all await your next video. Mark
Two of my favourite areas in one video... I'm thinking about making a furnace myself and I just realised I'll have to make it bigger - for me, wife and the children. ;)
Gotta love it, Englishmen settling for an American beer. Newcastle my friend it's so much better and probably less expensive there than here in the USA.
Hey myfordboy, I've watched a lot of your videos. I just realized the style you shoot your video is the similar to another of one of my favorite videos called, "Alone in the Wilderness." It's a documentary of living alone in Alaska starting in 1968 and the subject starts by building everything he needs to live. Audio in the film is dubbed in at a later time though. I know this isn't related directly to the video above but I thought it was interesting. Anyone else agree?
That's it....I feel hungry now :-) Two quick points- I could not put up with that rough garage floor, a couple of bags of Latex self levelling screed would sort that. and, Sort out that wobbly patio table :-)
The next furnace needs a side opening that can be closed off so you can heat material for blacksmith type work. Use the residual heat for pizzas... :-)
Gave it a thubs up just before the Bud... Thought to unthumb it at first, but hey, who am I to judge poor taste in beer when I even don't have a funace of my own. ;)
elpatenteu It's not concrete but a castable refractory. I have a series of videos showing the full build beginning with this one ua-cam.com/video/ZbnroanPt4g/v-deo.html
HemiRod23 What you see is a pulley casting for this myfordboy.blogspot.co.uk/p/compact-power-hacksaw.html and a part for this myfordboy.blogspot.co.uk/p/aerm.html and also a casting for this myfordboy.blogspot.co.uk/p/blog-page_27.html
One thing to keep in mind is if you use motor oil, it releases a lot of heavy metals and nasty stuff in the air such as arsenic and lead. Your furnace seems to burn a lot cleaner than mine does so you must not be using motor oil. I usually get a lot of black smoke afterwards, which is something I wouldn't want to put food in! Lol! I did start using kerosene recently and I am much more pleased with the way it burns. and starts. Nice and clean!
myfordboy i would use used cooking oil from fast food restaurants, if there are any near you. they will probably give you theirs, if not atleast sell if for really cheap, and ive heard that it works too.
theoretical physicist In my experience, that is no longer true. At least here in the states. Now a days there are strict EPA regulations on businesses that get rid of their used oil. Many times they simply are not allowed to give it to anyone except licensed companies that recycle it.
Different oils emit different elements into the atmosphere when burned. Used motor oil is the worst in this respect, because it picks up heavy metals and other toxic chemicals when in use. I don't know much about Linseed oil though, but there is no way it was nearly as toxic if they were frying things in it and eating it.
Never seen anyone forge lunch before, wonderful ending....
+John Bare And baking a wonderful potato or two.
Cooking of your family meal was another example of a great job well done.

Best video ever! Now i can convince my wife that I HAVE TO build a furnace! thanks, that´s great!
Those casting are coming out crisper and cleaner as time goes on. Excellent work. I'm sure you are pleased....
Thanx for all your hard work.

The casting was so perfect and smooth. Very nice!
Can you use your skills to make that poor woman a bigger knife? Great vid!
I thought the same. We think the same. You should be ashamed.
Loved the video, especially the cooking show.
Thanks
John

Bon appétit !
It seems now you are using the new furnace at 100 % of it's capacity 😁...
Nice video as usual. Great job.👍
Nice one David! - Great video as always ;-)

Good session after casting, useful foundry for b-b-q and after all meal at the end.
Yeah! Priceless!
That is fantastic.
Great stuff as usual.
Regards, Alasdair
A well earned bite :-)
Now that's creative thinking!
Thanks for making me hungry
Well deserved lunch!

Well done mate!

Very cool video :)
Very nice!
I honestly had no idea people in the UK drank Budweiser. Great vid as always!
yum..that made me hungry
Beautiful \o/
Haha I love it!
That's it! there's my excuse to build 1, the Mrs can have the odd day off cooking, surely that's gota win me some points, :-), loving the vids mate,
This was a charming video! All work and no play, eh?
Need two like. Excellent...
Hmmmm nice lunch, the mistress prepared it with care.
GREAT ending!
very nice
Have you ever considered casting any cooking gear for the Misses? It would be really cool to see some hand made cooking gear being cast.
Looks tasty
Nice idea...have a go at doing korsi lamb, next time.Delicious :-)
Epic ending.
Just lovely! :o)
O,,,
Living the goodlife
Mrs Myfordboy..Lol. Did she make you change your work shoes before you can have dinner ;)
That's is living!
I Like Your Food
how romantic it!
That's it....I feel hungry now :-)
Two quick points-
I could not put up with that rough garage floor, a couple of bags of Latex self levelling screed would sort that.
and,
Sort out that wobbly patio table :-)
These videos make you wonder... What can't you do with your own home foundry?
The next furnace needs a side opening that can be closed off so you can heat material for blacksmith type work. Use the residual heat for pizzas... :-)
Душевное видео!
Great idea!
I don't know why those beer glasses are not frozen though?
Hello! Dear Master!
Before I use borax for casting AL. There are many residue in the furnace , it's so hard,do you know how to clean?
lunch the English way ay. that is still alive and well here in New Zealand. awesome
Entertaining. I just sort of wondered if the lady should be named myfordgirl? Thanks for the video.
Marital bliss; so nice to see. Oh, did Clover give you something for the advertisement? ;)
Awesome use of the residual heat! Was that a Budweiser?
Great video. I just hope that the Budweiser that is available in the UK is better than the swill they produce here in the US...
yummy
Grettings Mr. Fordboy, it is posible melt iron in your furnance?
Gregorio Guillen Yes I have melted iron. Only a small amount just to try it bit it can obviously reach the temperature required.
lol, it look delicious ! what is the thing you put on top of your potatos ?
+Bonbadil Moi Coleslaw
Your castings always look so smooth on the surface. What type sand (grain size, etc) do you use? Great video. Great meal!
The sand is a natural greensand from artisanfoundry.co.uk, Bromsgrove greensand.
Thank you.
EL HOMBRE ESTE ES UN CAPO!.
This was the sexiest video ever. The whole cooking the food and the beer outside. I wanna have a barbeque and drink a cold one.
jejejejeje very good
Gave it a thubs up just before the Bud...
Thought to unthumb it at first, but hey, who am I to judge poor taste in beer when I even don't have a funace of my own. ;)
Lovely video! Hope you and Mrs Myfordboy enjoyed the. meal. Can you confirm that this was cook solely from the residual hear from the furnace? Mick
Mick Doherty Cooked entirely with the heat remaining in the furnace after the casting.
What temp are you looking for in the aluminum when you pour?
640C
What kind of concrete do you use for building your foundry?
Thank's
Fred
elpatenteu It's not concrete but a castable refractory. I have a series of videos showing the full build beginning with this one ua-cam.com/video/ZbnroanPt4g/v-deo.html
Wow Nice hahaha
What fuels the the foundry? I don't see a propane bottle anywhere.
Oh wait, i see your videos on making an oil fired foundry furnace....duh! :-)
Nice air compressor how do you like it? I watch all your videos they are great cant wait for the next video!!!
gizzo123us Very pleased with the compressor. In this application it only runs for 40 seconds every 4 1/2 minutes.
Is it possible to like melt a steak or veggies or what ever?
I'll bet lunch cooked pretty quickly! Are the castings part of a new engine project?
HemiRod23 What you see is a pulley casting for this myfordboy.blogspot.co.uk/p/compact-power-hacksaw.html and a part for this myfordboy.blogspot.co.uk/p/aerm.html and also a casting for this myfordboy.blogspot.co.uk/p/blog-page_27.html
The simple life ....ahh where are those times nowadays?
now I'm hungry.
You've gotta be quick but at 2:49 there is a glimpse of the mysterious myfordboy in the flesh.....The Stig would be most disappointed. :-)
buon appetito.
With udovolsviem looked all your videos on the casting. Tell me what kind of molding mixture you apply? its composition,% ratio of the ingredients.
AleX Z The sand i am using is bromsgove greensand from artisanfound.co.uk

MattsMotorz I am using used motor oil and am surprised myself how clean the furnace is after use.

MattsMotorz really? thats interesting.

Ha ha, buon appetito!!
Yam Yam!
Great films and very inspirational. Do you think its possible to perform iron casting at home?
Yes it is. This furnace will melt iron.
is this heat energy from cooling down?
alaricy The furnace retains a lot of heat after the burner is turned off and this was used to cook the meal.
JUST ANOTHER DAY IN THE OFFICE
