  • It seemed a shame not to use the heat left in the furnace after a casting session, so I cooked the lunch!

    When I first saw Mrs. Myfordboy preparing food, I thought, well this is surreal, and then it did cross my mind that the forge was going to be a tool for cooking food, then when it happened I felt....everything is right with the world and I was smiling. Delightful

    Love your channel. I realise this vid is 4+ years old, but I only recently found your channel and subed.
    In the '90's I worked in a machine shop that had a gas fired furnace about 50% bigger than yours. It fed a gravity die casting machine that produced about 50 parts per hour. There was a perforated metal basket above the furnace to preheat the "off cuts" from previous castings.
    That's where my lunch went :)
    On the 2~3 days a month when the foundry was run there was no lunch break, and I ran it 10 hours straight. So lunch on the go was most appreciated.

    I enjoy listening to the English countryside in your videos. the birds are the best...I thought I heard a sheep or cow in some of your other videos. the occasional passing vehicle doesn't really bother me because it's so infrequent compared to where I live (next to 10 lane highway)
    really is a peaceful, beautiful countryside, especially up north and the Midlands, the Peak District is especially beautiful
    ....sounds like I'm about due for another trip over lol

    Hey myfordboy,
    I've watched a lot of your videos. I just realized the style you shoot your video is the similar to another of one of my favorite videos called, "Alone in the Wilderness." It's a documentary of living alone in Alaska starting in 1968 and the subject starts by building everything he needs to live. Audio in the film is dubbed in at a later time though. I know this isn't related directly to the video above but I thought it was interesting. Anyone else agree?

  • @MattsMotorz
    @MattsMotorz 9 років тому +5

    One thing to keep in mind is if you use motor oil, it releases a lot of heavy metals and nasty stuff in the air such as arsenic and lead. Your furnace seems to burn a lot cleaner than mine does so you must not be using motor oil. I usually get a lot of black smoke afterwards, which is something I wouldn't want to put food in! Lol!
    I did start using kerosene recently and I am much more pleased with the way it burns. and starts. Nice and clean!

    • @myfordboy
      @myfordboy  9 років тому

      MattsMotorz I am using used motor oil and am surprised myself how clean the furnace is after use.

    • @Sgt.Hartman
      @Sgt.Hartman 9 років тому

      myfordboy i would use used cooking oil from fast food restaurants, if there are any near you. they will probably give you theirs, if not atleast sell if for really cheap, and ive heard that it works too.

    • @MattsMotorz
      @MattsMotorz 9 років тому +2

      theoretical physicist In my experience, that is no longer true. At least here in the states. Now a days there are strict EPA regulations on businesses that get rid of their used oil. Many times they simply are not allowed to give it to anyone except licensed companies that recycle it.

    • @Sgt.Hartman
      @Sgt.Hartman 9 років тому

      MattsMotorz really? thats interesting.

    • @MattsMotorz
      @MattsMotorz 9 років тому

      Different oils emit different elements into the atmosphere when burned. Used motor oil is the worst in this respect, because it picks up heavy metals and other toxic chemicals when in use. I don't know much about Linseed oil though, but there is no way it was nearly as toxic if they were frying things in it and eating it.
