Riiiiidge Racer! It's time for an extreeeeme episode, and you won't need to spend 599 US dollars to watch it! Make sure your body is ready, because it's time to talk about the cancellation of E3 2023 and look back at a show that brought the gaming cringe like no other! Fist bump!
The cornflakes are quivering...

The long awaited return of the cornflake homunculus. That dude has such a chill vibe.
It feels different without the "Red Tree" theme from Deadly Premonition
10 hour vid of CFH when?
.... does anyone else want a fighting game based around all of Steph's characters or is it just my diseased brain?
@@jamesrule1338 "Yeah, I main Miniature Fantasy Willem Dafoe."
I think he's rather flaky.
You know it's bad when children have less awkward tech presentations than 97% of the adults.
The children actually had some honesty and weren't trying so much unlike the adults who were the major mere imitators/wannabe instant knockouts of hipness. Naoki was the smartest adult there, ofC. Summed up the issue in one word.
It's cuz you expect awkwardness and bad acting from children. The adults make it seem so forced and you get that second-hand embarrassment you just can't get with kids
Weird how Microsoft had all the kid oriented cringe, you'd have thought Nintendo would be worse.
I imagine the children were actual actors with some basic acting classes under their belts. The lack of any real media or public speaking training (still) among the faces of video games development and publishing is wild.
I was ready to cringe but yeah, they were actually better than the adults.
"Being based on history, stages of the game will be based on famous battles that actually took place in ancient Japan. So heres this giant enemy crab" This got me way more than I thought it would.
Make sure you attack its weak point for massive damage!
What do you mean "Gyo" isn't a historical text?
The joke attacked your weak point for massive damage?
With such next-gen features as.... Real time weapons change!
VERY LOOSELY based on actual battles.
I’d heard that “giant enemy crab/massive damage” meme before but somehow never knew its origins. I feel like I’ve received a holy revelation, thank God for Steph
I'd always figured they'd been said with fake enthusiasm and was not prepared for confused deadpan
@midnight hope say what you like about those overly rehersed, scripted, fake squad chat presentations Ubisoft did, at least it wasn't some nervous guy badly trying to remember the talking points of a generic PS360 era game while playing it badly.
Giant enemy spider
I'm in the same boat. I thought it was from a random tiny ass press meeting in some random convention
this E3 cringe compilation may not have been the retrospective we asked for, but it's the one we needed
But nobody deserved this!
Do we tho?
I got lovely crowbcat vibes from this.
the only thing i ever remember of E3 that was worth to give a crap about was that time when a studio turned their stage time into a borderline mocking show with fake blood etc of the big publishers greed while at the same time presenting what they wanted to offer ,not lieing about something being 'finished' as all the big ones did XD
it was just so painful to watch.
I am equally thrilled and terrified that the Homunculus is back
And now has a special home in the murder basement where clearly they belong.
IA IA! It is risen!
Nature is healing.
I am truthfully a bit disturbed by it, but I'm also equally impressed because it's a corn flake monster.
I'd rather kiss the Homunculus on the lips then be at any of these E3's in person.
Waited with bated breath for "giant enemy crab" in the cringe compilation and felt like cheering when it finally showed up; was like cheering for an old friend.
"This is the slop you want in your gobbling troughs, you fucking swine..." has to be my favourite line from a youtube video this year.
It feels like a line I should get the chance to say at least once a year in a classroom while I teach and yet I know I'll never get to.
So Keanu Reeves is pretty much my last memory of E3
Can't believe that was four years ago
Ah yes, that time CDPR told breathtaking lies about Cyberpunk 2077...
@@mjc0961 So every Cyberpunk E3 presentation

Thankfully we can all move on with our lives now, perhaps after a bit of symbolic grave-dancing and/or grave-pissing on the imagined burial site of the Electronic Exploitation Excretion.
Addendum: Please select sensible, considerate sites for your symbolic dancing and/or urination, good folks.
@@hazukichanx408 Can you offer some tips in the selection of possible symbolic urination sites? Much obliged.
The critical levels of cringe got me eager to get up and do my grocery shopping. Thank you for pushing my ADHD ass out the door, Sterling.
I actually startend doing the laundry to avoid to keep looking at all that cringe.
Well now I feel silly for actually watching how pitifully inadequate the corpo hype farmers have become, or perhaps always were. I could have taken out the trash!
The cringe is well and truly over 9000
Drove me to the bottle...
Uullltttrrraaaa cringe makes me kinda sad it is gone... Now we are going to get a I generated camgirls.... Whatever.....
"It's ridge racer! Riiiiidge racer!" gets me every time, I swear.
I knew that one was going to be here. I still think it's the saddest moment of high profile game presentations. It's like he was begging them to cheer.
It's funny because that's what got me into Ridge Racer. On the psp. It's still one my favorite game for the system.
I feel like pre-transition you had a ton of pent up bitter rage, that unfortunately turned me off of the show, but post transition you seem so much happier - still snarky and cynical, as the game industry is want to make someone. But there's a more inviting and earnest air to your recent content. I'm glad you're still around and making such great strides to being your real self! Love it
That was also my experience! Even though I was aware of the Jimquisition as a thing and broadly agreed with its messages, I found it hard to watch consistently because of the dark undercurrent I sensed throughout the show. I only came back sporadically when there were topics I was interested in, and usually after checking other channels. One of those times was roughly a month after Steph publicly transitioned, and the difference in tone was staggeringly positive - I was hooked immediately!
I haven't missed an upload since!
You get a sense of massive hate and bitterness in the beginning of their transition too, as the game industry brought that out of them. It was a particularly horrid time, with all the abuse on an unprecedented level. Now that the happenings have slowed down, they’ve become more chill, the cynicism was lessened to a more digestible version, and they’re doing more variety videos much like before. Whatever silly or dumb thing they could cover. It’s great. A good return to form after the horrible dread every episode brought (I mean this in the best and worst way. It’s good to be up to date on what’s going on. But much like doom scrolling on Twitter, it hurts your health too)
I've been watching the Jimqusition for years now, but since they transitioned, I come away feeling MUCH less destressed.
They've also gotten back into doing written reviews, which I deeply enjoy and appreciate. One because I can't get enough of their writing, but also it speaks of a passion rediscovered.
I'm glad to see the Cornflake Homunculus is doing well.
I don't think "well" is the correct term for that thing. Its suffering is as ghoulish as it is nutritious.
@@JimSterling A creature that knows only pain and suffering seems apt for a product created to fight masturbation.
the homunculus's existence is currently... profitable.
@@JimSterling So... is it void of suffering then? because cornflakes. XD
@@JimSterling What about The Pog Fucker? I miss him…
I'm here to say hi, I'm a fan of your work and happy to support you. Just leaving some nice words.
This world is in dire need of more people who offer support and nice words. I hope this serves as nice words for you, too. Best wishes!
Thank you so much! That means a lot to me. ❤❤❤
@@JimSterling nahw you cute nugget
You did warn me of cringe but I was not prepared for this level of difficulty watching it
This is...... *A D V A N C E D C R I N G E*
the Konami bit had me literally cover my mouth with my hand in horror
I mean, I'd really like to know the story behind that. Who put that together?
Yeah that part was not even funny cringe just pure 2nd-hand embarrassment
I saw the conference live. I cherish that as one of the legit most cringe-inducing events I have ever seen.
I think it was the last time they did one.
It was really the sign that Konami as a company were not worth caring about so much outside of whatever Hideo Kojima might be making.
After the live presentation, it looped. So when the the presentative disaster became known, people online showed up for watching-parties for several hours later. I think I saw it three times in a row. Fun times.
The whole "we are the gaming industry" ESA part had me in tears. I can tell you particularly enjoyed writing this episode.
I feel like the cornflake humancilus will really enjoy the murder basement
It's like they were made for each other!
It's the ideal habitat for them really
I missed seeing it, I’m glad it’s… happy? I think it’s happy.
‘Enjoy’ is a very strong word for the sensations the Homunculus can experience.
This legit was a very fun trip down cringe memory lane
every new video you make, you look healthier and happier than before. I'm glad you're doing so much better post transition.
Thank you! Just being more confident helps. Finally having my real hair back and being able to move away from wigs was a recent huge step forward 😊
@@JimSterling you wore wigs?
@@JimSterling I hadn't even noticed you went with real hair on this one. Looks good! I should get my hands on some estrogen, just in case.
@@dkevans i've been watching her for years, used to be bald and that takes quite a long time to properly grow back out. Growing appropriately long hair from nothing takes quite a damn long time.
Today I learned "Freshly Enmilkened" is a phrase that causes my soul to recoil.
My skin crept all the way to my car, drove to Cringetown, and returned being towed in smoking wreckage after viewing that presentation. Steph, how did you survive it?
I was born in the cringe.
Alcoholism I think.
What gets me is that there were wrong notes in the Mario theme. They are literally fucking Nintendo and couldn’t even get the notes right for their presentation they had all the time and money in the world to prepare for
@@JimSterling I thought you were born different.
27:01 I'm just gonna point out that as creepy and inappropriate as "Here... hold my joy-wand!" sounded ALREADY back at the time... it has a WHOLE other, *darker* ring to it knowing what we know now about the internal climate at Ubisoft...
That Konami conference is surreal.
I'm not much of a dancer, but when I see E3's grave? Well... I'm only human, how can you not celebrate?
This video was your most hurtful, I cannot believe you went through kilometers of swamp and stench to bring us all this rich steamy pile of cringe. Huge respect
"It's Ridge Racer! Riiiiiiiiiidge Racer!"
That had me laughing.
Please clap.
The only neat thing that happened at E3 that sticks to my mind is Keanu Reeves' "You're breathtaking" thing. Just a nice little moment in the middle of all the marketing malarkey.
those clips transported me to a world beyond imagination entirely made of cringe
😬
Steph knows exactly what kind of fan service we all crave
The cornflake homunculus kind.

You need a content warning for that Wii Music expo, that shit is killing me.
The day we have all been waiting for...the blessed return of the Cornflake Homunculus.

Ah, the giant enemy crab moment. My personal favorite moment of E3

I am relatively new to the channel, and I am very glad to meet the cornflake homunculus.
Yay! It’s not glad to be alive, but legally it’s not a person so it’s okay! 😊
@@JimSterling with how things are going on TERF Island, you two will have that in common hahaha 😢

Holy crap, I actually forgot about Mr. Caffeine. Thank you so much for bringing that joy back to my life!
The Cornflake Homunculus is what I needed today.
I'm so happy to see the Cornflakes Homunculus back. It was always one of my favorite characters of yours.
i have waited years for the return of the cornflakes Homunculus, joy has returned to my life :)
E3 was always that major event that only mattered the day after, once all the trailers were online.
I am so excited to see the cornflake homunculus return, you never really realize how much you need something until it's gone 😔
My favorite entity from the SterLore is back, and in just as much existential pain as ever.
Favorite? But-but what about the Surprise Mechanic? I love that guy... "There's too much CAR in this car!! *_Rips out random car parts"_*
Tak Fuiji is a gem. Every time I see The Konami one, I can't help but get a big dumb smile on my face.
The "self loathing keeps me from remembering nice things" really hits close to home. Maybe why I slurp up your content, I relate to the cynicism and you HAVE been right all along after all XD
Ngl every episode i think "i imagined the cornflake homunculous, they arent real and cant hurt me" only for Sterling to just BRING THEM BACK AAAAAH.
(Glad to see this creachur once again)
The entire of the kinect showcase needs to be in the library of congress.
The most impressive thing is how some of those showcase "best of" segments take just four minutes, but feel like half an hour.
My favorite E3 moment is the infamous “do you guys not have phones?!”
I don't think that was E3, pretty sure that was Blizzcon. same difference though, it was amazing.
@@bryanpeterson5646 Oh, I thought Blizzcon was a... 'class' on the 'timetable'? I dunno how Conventions work properly XD

All that edging and teasing of Cornflakes Homunculus finally erupted into a glorious comeback!
There was a year where all Microsoft brought to the show was a fog machine and like 5 Cirque du Soleil performers, and then revealed a real car on stage (which they have done a LOT) and then that was kinda it.
I call many things a Monument to Masturbatory Marketing, but there is almost no case where it is more accurate than it is with E3. Good show, James Stephanie.
Never thought I'd see cornflake back... that's my fault for doubting. Love you and love the fact that you are a wresting god dang champion!
Thank you 😊! I’m still blown away that I get to be legit title holder. S’just really fun.

@@bleh329 gotta build up those cringe-calluses mate
This had to be the hardest video to watch since the beginning of the year. Watching all those cringe moments over again was physically painful.
The juxtaposition of the "A lot of smiles... New smiles!" clip right before the solemn "Good morning..." had me laughing way too hard.
God, this was one of the hardest episodes to watch. I couldn't deal with the 2nd hand cringe. In positive news I've been watching this channel (and the show before it was on this channel) for so many years and you haven't sounded better. I hope you keep making content you enjoy, looking at the subscriber count alone doesn't indicate the quality of work you're doing.
okay "lube up your topic hole" is something I need to work into conversations
I just wana say, this video is actually some of your best work Steph. I laughed my ass off.
Thank you 😊. I’ve been working extra hard on the show lately, and I like to think it shows.
The Historically Accurate Giant Enemy crab was the most heartbreaking boss/love interest in Ghost of Tsushima. Really pulled at my heartstrings for Massive Damage.
I don't believe the cornflake homunculus's cereal box hand was a bi-valve claw last time I saw it.
I must say, that was a delightful addition. It wasn't a big change, but it fits the whole aesthetic so perfectly I can almost image it had always been that way. Really, well done.
I'm glad that we can see some wholesome sponsors once again
This is so hard to watch without pausing to let the cringe develop
it rises within me like a loaf of bread
Thanks Steph, this video really put a smile on my face. I can’t stop smiling!
Let's also not forget E3 giving us such iconic moments like the ESA leaking every single attending journalist's private information, because they couldn't be arsed to put a password on their server.
That Konami E3 is an annual rewatch for me. It’s a special kind of cringe that I can’t find anywhere else.
The Sonic 25th anniversary livestream is pretty good cringe

Ironically I did have corn flakes for breakfast this morning.
Sometimes I need to remember that Steph no longer lives in the same time zone as me, and so a lack of new Jimquisition first thing on Monday mornings doesn't necessarily mean something terrible happened to them.
