Hi Michaela, in order to make this a king-sized quilt, you will need an 8 x 8 block layout, which will finish at 104" x 108". You will need 32 Block Ones and 32 Block Twos. So you will start with 288 print squares and 288 solid squares. That will be 8 Moda print charm packs, and 8 Moda solid charm packs.

Hi Kimberly-Love your channel. I have a question about quilting with my own machine. What stitch length is best and should I use the Aurofil thread? Thank you!
Hi Kimberly! Your videos are fantastic. Thanks so much. I have been doing simple flannel quilts for many years for my kids & grandkids an have recently stepped it up a bit. Can you tell me where I can get a 1/4 guide such as what I saw on your machine?
Hi Fayth! Are you referring to our 1/4 inch foot? You can simply purchase one online that works with your sewing machine. We just love them and it makes our seams and quilts much more accurate. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks!
very cool idea! quick and easy. I will be trying this :) I subscribed to your channel so I am sure I am going to receive a lot more excellent ideas! Thnaks
Alternate direction seam allowance pressing so that the seams “nest”. Fat Quarter Shop patterns typically give clear instructions on which way to press the seams.
Thank you Kimberly. I recently purchased charm packs (from Fat Quarter Shop of course). How do I know which solids to order now ? I'm not sure what goes with each. Anxious to make one! Thanks again
Hi Kimberly...I have finished my rows of each block 1 and 2. I have a question. Should I add a border or just finish up with binding? If it would be a good idea to add a border what would you suggest - a matching charm pack cut in half to form a rectangle? I am sort of a new quilter. Thanks for your help and suggestions! Joyce
Hi there! I personally prefer the quilt without a border however if you want to make this quilt larger and have the piecing float inside a border...I would recommend a 5" solid border. If you pieced a border together it might look too busy. However, if you are just interested in making this quilt larger, we have done the math for you. Check out our link here: fatquartershop.blogspot.com/2015/03/charm-pack-cherry-versary.html
Love this quilt! Thanks for sharing! I also was curious about the foot on your machine. is it one specifically for your machine? where can i get one of these?!
Thank you for talking slow and for talking layman's terms. After pressing specific seam directions, marking the top of the blocks seems so standard, yet no one has ever mentioned this when I watch other tutorials. I get so mixed up if I turn one or set one over to the side. And the math all makes sense. Knowing how many finished blocks I will get from these cuttings gives me a light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. Sometimes the piles of cut strips 2 and a half by 5 and 2 and a half by 7 get too overwhelming and I lose confidence in beginning to sew. This made sense.
Hello- I greatly appreciate your tutorial on making this quilt. Making a quilt is on my "to do" list- however, I thought I would start small & make one for my 2 daughters 18" dolls.Do u have any measurements or link for making a charm quilt for 18" dolls?
Hi Jennifer - we actually do not have any tiny quilt patterns or tutorials for doll quilts. I have briefly looked on pinterest and found several free tutorials. You might want to just look around the internet and you might just find one you like. Good luck!
I have two of the Color Me Happy charm packs in my stash. I really want to make this quilt but I'm not sure which Bella Solid color to order Which one do you use in this video? There are several in the grey color family.
Kimberly, I have the Juki TL2010Q Sewing Machine and can't find the 1/4 Quilter's Foot with guide anywhere. Does your shop carry this or know where I can purchase one for this machine?
+Krista Hamby Hi Krista! I use this ¼” foot on my Juki 2010TL: amzn.to/1jywCOE Then for your machine you can purchase either a low or high shank adapter for the foot to fit on: amzn.to/TXtiQE amzn.to/1jyx2V2
hi Kimberley im very new to quilting so I would like to ask you why do you press the seams the way you do? is quilts block always press this way? also what size are your squares? sorry to ask. love this video.
Hi dogandcatmum, thanks for watching. The reason you would press your seams in different directions is because it reduces the bulkiness of your block. When you overlay fabrics your block gets bulky and uneven. If you alternate the fabrics, it balances the weight. I hope this answers your question. Feel free to let me know if you need any additional help!
Hi Kimberly,I love your tutorial but it looks very intimidating. I am a beginner at all this sewing stuff. What kind of quilt would you advise for a newbie?
I would recommend any shortcut quilt we offer. ua-cam.com/play/PLNTabBf7OG9LV-Lr1B-ddOqp8rJS9xL_a.html If you want to work with larger pieces, try the Layer Cake Lemonade. Also the Jelly Roll Jam is very popular beginner.
+SmittenKitten Alphabitties are a die-cut plastic marker. They are not laminated. Thanks for your question. You can find there here: www.fatquartershop.com/alphabitties-specialty-marking-tools
I have a Picnic Pop pack (Me and My Sister) that I have been holding on to for the right quilt. Do you think that would look good in this pattern for a baby quilt?
It turned out great!!! I used a green for the solid that was in the sheets, etc, on her list. It came out better than I thought! Thank you for the pattern! Also I really appreciate that you give row dimensions in the pattern. I do quilt as you go so this really makes a pattern easier for me to use!
Hi Jane! For a 65” x 81” size, you will need a 5 x 6 block layout, so three Block One Rows (15 Block Ones) and two Block Two Rows (10 Block Twos). You will need to start with 13 Solid and 13 Print Nine-Patch Blocks. That means you will need 117 squares each of prints and solids, so 3 print and 3 solid Moda Charm Packs.
I'm wondering how this would look using darks and lights instead of prints and solids. Any thoughts? Love the simplicity of the design and yet it is more interesting to look at than just a bunch of squares. :)
+Linda Lehn Linda, go for it! It sounds like a great idea, and there are lots of great solid, batik and other basic color charm packs you can use. Here is our charm pack page to browse: www.fatquartershop.com/charm-packs
hi Kimberley sorry to ask you but do you do videos on how to put the back and middle on to the front blocks? Thank you for all your help. Sorry to trouble you again.
We do not currently have quilt assembly video but continue to check back to our UA-cam channel as we have many future videos that can be useful to you! Thanks for watching.
Just a question but how big would I have to make my quilt so it would fit on a king single bed? I'm can't print the pattern off because I wrote this on my tablet
Thank you. I would sew another line by the line you drew and then you will have another square. best to sew a double line now and you will have finished block\
That is correct. You will need 3.5 yards backing. Here is a link to a page with more information: www.fatquartershop.com/free-quilt-pattern-charm-pack-cherry-free-quilt-pattern Thanks!
Could you please tell me if I should sort the printed charm packs as they are packed identically ? this is probably a silly question but Kimberley's printed charm squares came up assorted.
Charm Pack prints vary from different collections. We just simply took a scrappy approach and chose the prints from the top to the bottom. I hope this answers your question. Feel free to email me at Codi@fatquartershop.com if you have any further questions. Thanks!
Hello, here is the information to make this quilt into a Queen: QUEEN - 91" x 94.5" (7 rows, 7 blocks in each row) 6 print CPs or 225 squares 6 solid CPs or 225 squares 7/8 yard binding 8 1/2 yards backing Following the instructions in the pattern, make 25 Print Nine-Patch Blocks and 25 Solid Nine-Patch Blocks. Using these, make 28 Block Ones and 21 Block Twos. Assemble seven Block Ones into a Block One Row, and make four Block One Rows. Assemble seven Block Twos into a Block Two Row, and make three Block Two Rows. Assemble the rows as shown in the pattern, alternating the rows. We have also listed other sizes on our blog here: fatquartershop.blogspot.com/2015/03/charm-pack-cherry-versary.html Thanks!

I have a Picnic Pop pack (Me and My Sister) that I have been holding on to for the right quilt. Do you think that would look good in this pattern for a baby quilt?
Hello Marie! Yes that would look great!
It turned out great!!! I used a green for the solid that was in the sheets, etc, on her list. It came out better than I thought! Thank you for the pattern! Also I really appreciate that you give row dimensions in the pattern. I do quilt as you go so this really makes a pattern easier for me to use!
If I wanted to make the quilt longer, like a twin size would I just add 1 extra print and 1 extra solid charm pack?
Fat Quarter Shop Thanks for doing the "quilt math" for me!
I'm can't print the pattern off because I wrote this on my tablet
thanks
Thank you. I would sew another line by the line you drew and then you will have another square. best to sew a double line now and you will have finished block\
Are the charm packs the same? As in 2 of the same prints, and 2 of the same solids? How much fabric is needed for the backing? Thank you!!
Thanks!
I see the fabric requirements for a twin and king size, but I would like to make a queen size. Can you help me with this. Thanks.
Hello, here is the information to make this quilt into a Queen:
QUEEN - 91" x 94.5" (7 rows, 7 blocks in each row)
6 print CPs or 225 squares
6 solid CPs or 225 squares
7/8 yard binding
8 1/2 yards backing
Following the instructions in the pattern, make 25 Print Nine-Patch Blocks and 25 Solid Nine-Patch Blocks.
What pins are used in this video? I'm trying to find flat quilting pins that are good quality. I got some dritz flat quilt pins and they were horrible and need to get something better.
Our favorite pins are the Collins Flat Flower Pins found here: www.fatquartershop.com/collins-2-flat-flower-pins
THANKS FOR THE UMBRELLA APPLIQUE TUTORIAL. CAN YOU POST A TUTORIAL FOR A THREADS SPOOLS QUILT.THANKS
Do you think a baby quilt would look nice if I use 3 blocks across and 3 down? Thanks
+Jacqueline Lindberg Hi Jacqueline! Yes, that will work for a baby quilt, and in fact we have posted requirements and instructions on how to make it that size on our blog post here: fatquartershop.blogspot.com/2015/03/charm-pack-cherry-versary.html
Have a great day!
+Fat Quarter Shop Thank you for taking time to answer me and for your tutorials.
the foot on your sewing machine looks different than on mine, is it a special kind of foot? Looks like it has a ledge to keep fabric from moving?
Hi Christine! That's a 1/4" foot, Kimberly uses it so she knows exactly where a quarter inch lines up on her fabric.
I totally messed this up when puting blocks 1 and 2 together. I'm very frustrated. Now I have to take them apart.
How many of the 5"X5" squares would you need for a queen size quilt?
they did the math on this on their blog :) blog.fatquartershop.com/charm-pack-cherry-versary/
Hello, how much yardage would the 2 solid charm packs amount to? 1.5 yd? Thank you.
Hello! You will need a little over 1.5 yards. I would suggest cutting them from 1 5/8 yards in case of any miscuts.

How much yardage for backing and binding? Newbie here. Quilt math is confusing!
Hi Karen, here is the pattern for you to review. It will tell you exactly how much fabric is needed for the binding and backing. Enjoy! static.fatquartershop.com/media/wysiwyg/pdf/CPCherry-Pattern.pdf
Thank you so much!
what machine are you using in this tutorial, the foot looks very handy to have in the tool box...
We purchased this 1/4 inch foot with a guide from a quilt store in Austin called Sew Much More. Here is a link to their site: sewaustin.com/ Thanks for watching!

how many 9 patch blocks do I need for a full size quilt?
Hello Carolyn! We did not design this quilt to be full sized but we have other size options available here: blog.fatquartershop.com/charm-pack-cherry-versary/
We recommend at least 1/3 of a yard of each color.
I'm wondering what kind of sewing machine do you use?
Hi Katlynn! Kimbelry uses the Juki TLQ2010. Thank you for watching!
What is the iron you ard using?
What kind of pressure foot do you use?
Hello Donna! Kimberly uses the Primitive Gatherings ¼” foot: www.primitivegatherings.us/jukki-products/juki-1-4-foot
Can you tell me your source for the large cutting board? Who is the manufacturer?
Hello Cynthia! Kimberly used a Megamat translucent cutting mat. We had an amazon link but the seller is currently sold out.
do I pre wash these charm packs
No, when you work with precuts, it's crucial that you skip the prewashing otherwise it will distort/shrink your pieces.
thank you
With nesting seams why so much pinning.
