- In order to rebuild an old, rusty motor, you need to go through every single component. As a matter of fact, you'd be better off replacing factory parts with aftermarket goodies. On a Hummer H3, replacing the stock cast iron exhaust manifold is a necessity, due to it being prone to cracking. I've made a high-flow replacement manifold with equal length runners using AISI 304 stainless steel. Each runner is 42.4 mm wide, wall thickness is 3 mm, while the 5-1 merge collector is 60 cm long. These specs allow for increasing engine efficiency and improving exhaust gas flow out of the cylinders on this inline-5 L52 Vortec 3500 GM's engine. This exhaust manifold is durable enough to allow for installing a turbocharger. The manifold was made using a TIG-welder fed with argon. This timelapse video shows the entire process of how the exhaust header was made.
