Edward Hayes Cunningham If you have a weak grip, straps can help a lot. In Klokov's case the grip isn't limiting his snatch so he can pull it off without them too.
Lauri Lahtinen if he's pulling 200kg snatch... do you think he could compete against Ilya in next year's Worlds and get close to 435-440kg total? He looks good for being "older" now!!!
Lauri Lahtinen yes, this would be fantastic... Ilya has only ever won his meets, a true show-down. They would be going for 435-440kg totals. Crazy! I hope they stay healthy. Dmitry would be very very "old" for this but have a good chance! Ilya is in his ultimate prime of his career.
He hurt his back shortly before this in Australia. I wonder if being there brought out his competitiveness because he really shouldn't have tried 200kg let alone make it. Does anybody know if he made that on his first try?
That is the all time record for the snatch. Present day weight category though strips those record numbers that is why today there is 105kg+ instead of 110kg+. The same goes for 110kg where today is it replaced with 105kg. Dimitry Klokov competing weight is 105kg and the snatch world record for his weight category is 200kg. Mind you the 110kg class back then snatch world record was 210kg set by Yuri Zhakharevich.
the best part is when the entire hall stops and videos a guy who isn't even competing!! amazing stuff :) love it
Haha totally! How many KGs do straps help? 10? 15?

Edward Hayes Cunningham I hope so, he has easily a better snatch than Ilya, Klokov said that he decides soon if he's going to Rio in 2016.

You could hear a pin drop on his last lift! The whole hall came to a dead quiet for him!

The last snatch is at 200kg, equaling the current world record for -105kg category.
He'd be competing with the best yet again at 33 yo.
LMAO...
Was that 200 or 205 his last snatch?
200:)
barsophi1 how much do you think straps help with a 200kg lift? 10kg? 15kg? What is the Snatch WR? Isn't it 214kg?
Edward Hayes Cunningham 214kg is the snatch world record for 105+ kg. The snatch world record for 105kg is 200kg.
Toan Vu the 110kg+ Category (I think around 1988) the WR is 216kg!!!! Check Wikipedia :)
