I am in my 86th year, and I don't think my leukemia will allow me to enjoy your incredible voyage much longer so I just want you to know that you have been a great companion for me on my last year 🎉!
Stay tuned, positive and look forward to Dan’s progress Joe!!!!
May The Lord bless you.👑🙏
Let's hope and pray you'll see Dan's voyage till completion, God Bless You
Stay tuned Joe - we are all watching with you - sending good vibes your way
Peace be with you 🕊️💕
You're absolutely not JUST renovating a building. You are preserving history, not to mention bringing all of us joy in watching you.
The footage of Popeck brought tears to my eyes - thank you Dan for bringing the history alive
Yes, indeed, very sad period in the history of France and Dan is very courageous in restoring the old lady back to her former state. Wonderful restoration really.
It did for me Barnzoid. I wasn’t expecting such an emotional reaction at all. Human emotions are strange and in this case sort of comforting
I have another gentleman, my French teacher in the 1970’s, that was placed in a Catholic school to hide him. After the war he actually walk hundreds of miles back to his home. He lost much of his family including his father. They were Jewish. I think it was 20/20 ( an American tv show) that told his story. ❤ He has some stories on UA-cam - Paul Schwarzbart. An amazing man! Thank you for these amazing stories ! And your hard work!
The reason why I support Dan is because he is being as true to the original as possible. No modern disregard for the heritage. True craftsmanship respected and continued.
And he has remained humble, too 👍
Hm, I was thinking I would rebuild the roofs flat. Especially in the middle. But it's a lot of job anyway
He does use a lot of OSB, mind you. :-D Still incredible, how everthing is coming together, bit by bit.
Seeing Popeck as a little boy was so touching, also your visible emotion when you met him 😊
I am simply amazed how we are all connected through time and space!! Thank you for interviewing Popeck and a while back, mentioning that Bill Graham had also lived at the Chateau. I followed the Grateful Dead for over 45 years and here I am watching you re-build the Chateau that also protected him and other children. ❤️❤️❤️
"I will survive" (Touch Of Grey). 🎼☮
@@Tubemanjac
I will get by. ❤
It must of been a real treat to meet that man who lived at the Chateau when he was a lad. Well done, you probably made him very Happy 👏👏
You have in my eyes the number one UA-cam videos on the internet today. Look forward to your new videos every day and the restoration of the castle. ❤❤❤
I really like this upper level wall roof preparation activity. Totally the right programming to execute at the moment.
@@PreservationEnthusiast It needs to be done, but work on the other Wing has to start soon if he wants to avoid another roof in the Winter!?!
@@TomTomicMic I would put in temporary scaffold crash deck and put in the top floor and roof first on that wing and the back wing, rather than wasting a lot of time on the intermediate floors.
Amazing how well you scrub up Dan, down to the smart shoes! Who’d have thought!
@@PreservationEnthusiast Dan is really a "prize." Like everyone, I am pulling for him in his project, but I wonder if he is qualified to "save" those supporting walls? That is the big question. Safety-wise, can those crumbling walls even BE saved (as he is doing)? To rebuild a castle ruin of this immense size, it seems to me that one must have sufficient quantities of 1) manpower, 2) money to do the job correctly, and above all, 3) the engineering knowledge to assure it's structural integrity. I know that Dan possesses the heart and energy for the job but does he have those three ingredients? In other words, is he over his head? I scratch my head when I see him just smearing some mortar in a void in the wall brickwork and "call it good." It looks neat and tidy, but is it really shoring up the wall?
Awesome showing of the gentleman who was raised at the Chateau! This truly amazing Dan! I am glad he was able to share his experiences with you! ❤❤😊😊
Man, I'm so glad you're saving this bit of history..the ol girl gave a lot..nice to someone doing something for her!
Thanks for inviting us along
I love this part of the rebuild as much as the roof. This is where and how we started😊oh yeah and by the way none of this is boring
It was so nice to see Popeck. He was a great comedian when I was a child and a teenager in France. It is a great story of hope that some of the darkest episodes of our history can bring so much joy and happiness thr
I just realized why so many people actually love you, this is besides the fact that we admire your intelligence and absolute talents, too many to mention. The other and probably most importantly is your strength of spirit and your smile. Always finding a reason to smile.
Year, trully amaising. I would swear like a mad man at every rain drop.
@@danduster4951 His new teeth look better than his real ones.
@@Logan-o5h wtf this have to do with anything? Jelous of his beautifull chateau
Compliments, Dan! My Mother in law was sent to concentration camp from Amsterdam as a 4 year old, and only through a miracle escaped the fate which several hundreds of her family suffered. The tales of injustice against Jews in France as well as all of Europe are seemingly without end.
The Chateau is a Monument, Your bringing it back to life confirms & illustrates You(and your team!) are HEROES. ♾
I think it would be incredibly important for all generations to understand the full history of the Chateau. We can never forget what the Jewish people of France and of Europe endured. I’m forever grateful for refuges like this, and the work you’re doing to preserve its history cannot be understated. Merci beaucoup.
It's a pitty the pallestinian children don't have a chateau to hide from the genocide. What a tragedy. How the tables could turn 180 degree like that.
It’s going on right now in. Israel as we speak, unbelievable atrocities committed by HAMAS this time.
As an architect and historic preservationist, the restoration of the chateau is fascinating. But the best part of the process is preserving, saving, and learning more about its history in the modern context with the survival of so many children. 👏👏👏
It is just wonderful what you are doing. If it wasn't for you, the place would have possibly been torn down and covered over. Once things like the chateau are gone, they are gone forever. All the best to you.
Not many would have taken it on, so hopefully Dan can continue with it until completion, but maybe no more roofs in Winter!?!
His face says it all. So many emotions in the mix.
Dan, you're doing a good job.
Dan….. this was an amazing interview for me as he was a child during that time and my mom was I think in her teens during the war …… she became part of French underground near the Swiss border as her village was there guiding shot down American soldiers through the woods to the next person so they could be saved from the Germans.
Just remarkable. Brave lady. Your mom's stories must have been quite something. If you can, tell us more.
Thank you for sharing some of the history of the chateau. Fabulous vlog.
Just need to say this: You are a most kind Gentleman blessed with a wide range skills who has embraced this noble project of restoring this historic Chateau. Quite Admirable sir!
Big Dan, you've brought so much joy to all of your viewers, thank you, we'll see ya Monday
It was awesome to hear the history of the chateau and a great man. That was truly a blessing that you were able to meet him and spend time together sharing his story and your dream. Well done. ❤
The fact that this chateau saved so many Jewish children from the Nazis is truly remarkable. It brings me to tears thinking about it. The house and the land around it has great karma. Bless you for bringing it back to its former glory. Whether you can feel it or not, it is a labor of love.❤❤❤
💜💜💜
What you consider boring is why I watch. Love seeing the mortar tucking.
Simply rebuilding the old girl, tackling it on your lonesome and watching the narrative develop is quite high enough purpose so far as I'm concerned. It always was an exciting project and never was 'just renovating a building'.👍👍
Here Here!!!
History of ur Chateau is very important, and it's good to hear about the lives that lived there ❤
😭😢 So special to meet a WW2 survivor, who lived in the Chateau. What a wonderful history!
It's no more a manoir than a chateau.
In fact, it's certainly less a manoir than a chateau.
But, whatever! @@NanouPeb-vy3ug
I really like the combination of showing reno stuff and then a little history mixed in the middle. How special to have that sit down with Popeck and hear his stories!
So glad that I have been following you on this journey, in my opinion this is the best channel on UA-cam.
Thank you for sharing the history of the chateau and the people who found refuge within its walls!
Good morning to you, evening to me. Another great video. Thank you. See ya tomorrow.👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Its so amazing seeing that roof line in the videos now. Wonderful job!
Your chateau has a very special redemptive history and I’m so glad you are honouring that history and restoring the building. I wish you many blessings for your labour! ❤
This is amazing seeing all the pictures and history of this beautiful place x
I love this part more because with the renovation of each room comes new life and memories to be made. Each room will take on a personality all its own eventually. And hopefully, we get to see it transpire, ROOM BY ROOM.❤️❤️❤️
How lovely it must have been to see this man and hear the stories he told you from that time, It must have been Bitter sweet for him to see what became of it but I am sure joy to see the amazing work and passion you have in restoring it again. Well done Dan you are a Love xxxx Dede xx
There are no boring bits, Dan. Each task you do is so enjoyable to watch, especially those moments you step back and compliment yourself on a job well done. Soon, you will be walking around the chateau and seeing lots of restoration nearly finished.
Seeing the photos of the children at Chaumont during the war and you sitting at the table with the senior gentleman, actually brought tears to my eyes. It's a great thing Dan.
It’s really great to have those pictures of the children who lived there and meeting Popeck, what a wonderful gentleman.
I more than enjoyed those bits of history. Thank you for sharing. My mom had to flee from near Berlin as a teenager, I feel with all human beings who suffer from mad and destructive politics.
You are a special person Dan. Very rare sir. Always a pleasure to enjoy watching your journey. You clean-up well .....tis true. But mostly the grace of a true gentleman is so beautiful. Well done!
Dan you are a gentleman and its a pleasure to watch you. The decipline it takes to uundergo your project is amazing. I watch each of your vlogs even when you are with the wondeerful group at LaLande. Best to you!
Thank you for sharing the chateau story from popette and thank you for telling us about the lime and render.
The history of the place is why I watch you work so hard to respectfully rebuild it.
Dan, thank you for sharing Popeck's story, I hope one day, you will be able to give us the whole back story on Chateau de Chaumont, and all the old pictures you have of her. Thanks for sharing your incredible journey with us.
Her?
It's a building: it.
Give us a break with your "hers"!
If anything, it's a chateau, therefore French, therefore a "he".
what are you a moron, @@elchapito4580
You are doing a wonderful job on all aspect of the lovely chateau.
Hey... I really like the boring stuff!!! It's not just renovating a refuge, you're preserving and documenting history and those who lived that history. I admire your perseverance, jealous of your talent & construction knowledge and inspired by your humanity. I'm glued to your channel...
My family is connected to another of the survivors from this chateau (not a member of my family, but members of my family knew and worked with him). I was shocked to find this out! Sadly he has already passed away, but he also made a pretty significant impact in the world. It's amazing how it's such a small world, isn't it.
You have the greatest UA-cam format on the internet. You have the unique ability to make every video more interesting than the previous. Bravo Dan from a devoted fan who loves building in all forms.
It’s a work of art Dan. The garden also. Bless 🙏🏻❤️
I love to hear the stories! And I love the pointing, you could slow down the time lapse or run it at normal speed for an hour and I would be delighted. None of it is boring!
Hi Dan, when you have the Chateau finished you should make it your business to try and bring back as many Children as was their when the War was on . what a privilege that would mean to All that stayed their . I wish you Dan all the joy in Restoring your Home for you and your family. Your Story is just beginning.Hope you make great Memories . take care of yourself and your family and your New Home.☘️ From Ireland.
Well it's going to be 9 years until completion, that is practically 90 years old for the youngest!?!
It is sadly over 80:years since the end of the war, many of them are probably not with us anymore. Wonderful to think he is still active and so lively.
Sadly I doubt many of them are still alive.
Said who?
@@TomTomicMic
The history of the building is its heart and soul. I would very much enjoy a vlog or series of episodes that dove into the history and the people who lived there.
......well after it's finished might be best!?!
Watch the videos from the beginning, there are videos that talk about the history
@@debbierudolph9489 Well i watched from the beginning, there is not much told about the history of the chateau. This episod is probably most telling about it. But did you read the newspaper Dan presented here??? This fire looks veeeery suspicious.
Hello I am glad for you, progress is moving forward! Good evening here!
To me you are like a big soft teddy bear that fulfills my days. I am 76yo and I think of you everyday. You are the Grand Ladies companion now Dan, she depends on you. Your children are so privileged although they do not realize it yet, to have you as their father building a legacy for them and others to remember the days that were not so happy for a few.
Dan you have taken the baton of this legacy of this wonderful chateau you are restoring for the world to see for future generations to see that anything is possible.🙏❣
Good progress, Dan.
The history of the chateau is fascinating ❤
Can’t wait to read your book, Dan.
Dan I told you the chateau gods are clapping their hands and thanking you.
I would love to see the roof complete and therefore will save the tiles walls etc.
Dan you are amazing. I am so glad I found your channel. It reminds me that we, if we dare, can do great things. You have created a community that touches the hearts of many people all over the world. I am so glad and proud to be part of that community. Thank you for sharing Dan ❤️
Great meeting. Thank you for sharing.
So good you were able to connect with him. That must have been a very touching experience for you, and I think him as well. I'm enjoying seeing walls go up!
I agree. This has been a great adventure. What ever happens I'm still learning an the history, the best. Thank u Dan for allowing us to tag along with u 😊😊😊
Your attitude and willingness to do something good for others makes you a hero in my book !! well done
You know Dan, once in awhile I think, this is a good man, and a kind man. This is one of those times. What you are doing is definitely more than just a reno. Here for the whole journey. Love to hear the history.
😊Thanks for sharing your visit.
That has got to give you a huge amount of pride, plus motivation to continue the monotony of the mountain of brick work...that was so cool, thanks for sharing...!
Handsome Dan, you brought me to tears today…
I love the way this man takes such an intrest in thé history of the château and actually went to see a well known French artist. That is why i like this one man show. Few Brits do this in France.
Popeck. Wonderful. what a buzz to see those photos bringing back his memories. Talk about pulling on the heartstrings. You are not only bringing her back to life, bricks and mortar, you are bringing back her soul. Well done you! Cheers.
Everybody knows Popeck in France...
Nearly Everybody knows Dan in his castle 😉
Espérons que tous les enfants sauvés par ce château et encore vivants pourront venir le visiter !! C'est une histoire merveilleuse que vous réécrivez avec cette restauration. Bravo Dan, Nick et Cameron
During such trying times I appreciate you and the work you have taken on to restore Château de Chaumont (La Serre-Bussière-Vieille). There is something so unique and endearing about the project and all the cast, characters and history. I find myself quite invested in it. I was lucky enough to come across your channel just when you discovered your chateau so I have been watching from the beginning, plus earlier videos to get more context of how you came to rebuilding a ruin brick by brick after digging her out from the rubble. You warm my heart each day and put a smile on my face. Thank you for sharing your craft, sunny outlook, patience and dedication to your task.
You are a companion to me each night as I enjoy your videos so much. Thank you for sharing about the man who was there as a child. Makes the story more interesting. THANKS.
You are doing a great work Dan. This brought tears to my eyes.
What a wonderful opportunity to have had the pleasure of speaking with one of the children that had spent time in this wonderful chateau. I also look forward to seeing your progress every day and sometimes watch more than once.
Hi I have been following you for a few months now and I think what you are doing is just great. I live in Canada and I like doing my own renovations but now as I get older, not as much. My enjoyment now come from you doing this. i know it will take you a few years to complete, but I will try and follow your progress. Chears
Wonderful to meet someone who sheltered at the chateau! You are making a positive difference in so many people’s lives. Thank you Dan🙏❤️
Watching you build stuff is educational not boring!! You are doing a magnificent job on the house!! Rock on!! I did enjoy the interview on the house he lived in for a year!! Thanks for sharing that!! Lots of love from Tennessee!!
Thank you Dan for this historic story about the chateau's past. Wonderful to hear. Thank you!
Just absolutely love your channel! Wish they were a bit longer. Content, editing is just top notch. Watching from Colorado, USA
You should have some of those guests visit the place, Dan.
Always point before rendering. Helps it breathe.
Thanks for sharing. 😀
Sadly I doubt many of them are still alive.
A few tears for this wonderful story. Thank you Dan for taking the time to include us. It makes this Chateau more special.
There were 5 million women and children who were killed by the Russian Zoinst during WWII they were the only ones that sliced up women and raped the German women and Childern.
Well done catching up with the old guy
whoa the picture in the thumbnail is amazing. this is gonna be awesome.
Dan, it’s great to see you back to renovating. Your visit with Popech must have been a lifetime memory that will make you smile whenever you are in your chateau.
Goodness the clamp on the switch made me chuckle. What a beautiful history to match your beautiful chateau. One expects to appreciate the charm & the skill that goes with renovating an old building, but you really are touching on something profoundly special with each bit of restoration. Thank you Dan.
The clip on Popeck is so sweet, terrific for all. Thanks Dan
I would love to hear more stories about the children who lived there.
Einfach schön wie Geschichte erhalten wird und Zeiten überdauert 👍👍👍
86 years ago, beautiful. Year prohibition stopped. I think you owe yourself a cold one.
Blessings.
It must be mindblowing to actually meet, in the flesh, someone who had/has history with the chateau. Great history! I didn't know you spoke French!
He does but I reckon the film company had an interpretor there as I doubt Dan's French is that good for that kind of conversation.
What a treasure of an experience to have met with Popeck. With my personal history, the chateau that you have chosen is powerfully meaningful. Appreciate your dedication and work.
What a wonderful background story your home has Dan. Loved the pictures. I would not be surprised if some day you will hear the sounds of children laughing..... Thanks Dan
Say, that was neat that you went to visit that gentleman and shared your labor of love, restoring the Chateau.
(You can invite him over, to see the place in person, at whatever point you think it appropriate).
Oh, right.
I'm sure Dan will be pleased to know he can invite whoever the Hell he wants and whenever he wants to his own chateau!
🙄
I would love to hear the stories of individuals who stayed there during the war. Have enjoyed watching you renovate and fix up the chateau. Thank you
Wow its crazy how the red brick part of the central turret was actually within the roof structure.
Once the restoration is nearly completed you should put a picture of You & popeck up on a wall
This is one of the greatest projects on UA-cam right now. Seeing your progress on the building, the video editing, the narration, and the safe and proper usage of tools is heartwarming. I can't wait for the day you finish this beauty and hold a housewarming party with everyone who has a history with this building!
