Originally built in 1790 with an addition thirty years later, the house hadn’t been touched since 1910 when Penny and her art dealer husband Guy purchased the property. After an 18 month renovation, Penny decorated the house and has continued to update it with her signature spin of chic eclectic color and pattern. Mixing classic English chintzes with Indian, Moroccan and Turkish textiles and rugs as well as her own fabrics, she has created a fearless and yet sublimely comfortable home. I live in England now in a small terrace house built in the late 1800's. Even if our space is small, the enduring charm of the English country look suits our space so well. It is a look that will never go out of style.

Every room is breathtaking. The art collection alone is magnificent but I LOVE how the gilded frames just dance in the colors of the greens, pinks, raspberries and yellows. Absolutely stunning. The ottoman is perfect! The whole estate and grounds--perfect! You would think this took a lot of effort, yet it somehow looks effortless and more importantly, loved. She seems so sweet and genuine-the kind of person you would just want to sit and visit with for hours. 😊.
It is the most glorious and welcoming home, as is Penny! And yes, a testament to her that it feels effortless!
Quintessence I’m obsessed with the blush-colored room. And the armoire full of hats! I wonder if she needs a hired hand to shepherd her sheep...I could bring my collies. 😉

Oh my! Penny has created a peaceful but fun haven. If I ever were to be a guest and signed her book I would make sure to behave so well and inserted the appropriate amount of humour to our conversation to insure another invitation to visit. I would be asking her the stories that went along with her collectables. Bravo Penny!

she puts it all perfectly when she says to just go in a shop, buy what you like and then don't worry about where you will place it, because it will blend.
And how much all this could cost? We just gave away the similar chairs and couches and bought the contemporary looking furniture. But the countryside is beautiful!
Every video of yours just keeps knocking it out of the park. There are so many Elle Decor and AD houses to see online, just an overload of Studio McGee etc. They are not my taste and I get frustrated trying to find interiors that appeal to me, which when it comes to magazines are usually to be found in the pages of World of Interiors and nowhere else. What I love is these exact sorts of places, the ones that you showcase so well. The ones with grandeur, drama, history, eccentricity, period details of architectural interest and that indefinable quality that is always brought to a home entirely due to the owners collections and idiosyncratic tastes. I wish you could get a peek into Ian McEwan's country pile! From the outside it is breathtaking. Houses with almost theatrical atmospheres-- more more more please :D And for others reading this, if you are not familiar with Ruth's now defunct blog 'Bible of British Taste' please do check it out. Thanks again for this video, I've watched it many times! :) Also, Ms Morrison is a masterclass and a mystery at the same time: just look at that EXTRAORDINARY sense of proportion and balance in every single room; all those materials, patterns, lamps and tables etc, yet nothing dominates and clashes. Perfection.

What a fabulous countryside to wake up to every single day. The owner is so modest about her beautiful home. It's warm and homey feeling makes you want to cuddle up on the sofa. Who wouldn't feel comfortable there? Like so many people with large houses, only a few rooms are actually used.

Penny has such a unique way of mixing and matching colors, and patterns. And I also love the fact that she has her own textile room for putting together her own fabrics. Her home is so beautiful, and that garden is to die for! A lovely acreage that's prefect for animals to graze at peace. Lovely home tour as usual!

This isn't my style at all but I absolutely love it. With a wave of her hand she generously suggests you just buy any old thing that takes your fancy and find a place to stick it when you get back but, of course, she is extremely brilliantly talented to make this work so superbly. You cannot see it's been designed, but it's actually meticulous. It's a real home, not a showpiece and it's incredibly inviting, happy and welcoming. If you didn't get it already, the guestbook at the end tells you this is the home of warm thoughtful generous people who love other people.

I think curating things from travels and special shopping adventures, added to sentimental family heirlooms make a house feel more like a home and less like what I call “a Pottery Barn house” where it looks generic as if you plucked everything straight out of the same catalog. I, too, like the stories and memories associated with my eclectic treasures I’ve accumulated over the years. However, I do prefer a much calmer, muted aesthetic without as much going on visually. But I think it’s wonderful she derives such pleasure from having all of her wonderful bits and pieces surrounding her along with the bright, vivid patterns and colors everywhere. I can appreciate the beauty in things that aren’t necessarily my style. Thank goodness we are all so different, otherwise, how boring the world would be! Thanks for another lovely video... and always made more enjoyable with footage of the pups! 😊🐶😁🐩🥰

Very nice, colourful, not only those white sofas, we have dogs too, and it is better when they are in colours. And such a lovely garden! The house is also not a " show" house, it is lived in, like oures, and the Lady goes to fleamarkets and anticstores and displays her treasures!

Most of all I've liked a strong yellow colour of mistress dress. Of course, this home is absolutely gorgeous, yet I think, it's a little too much beautiful things...I'm picking a quarrel out of envy. Also, I've liked a touching scene of dogs have established in armchairs. Mrs Penny, you're creating breathtaking works of art.

Wow, I adore her home! I'm also in love with that pattern that she had rolled up!
I'm in tears now. Tears. This is so lovely; I want to move right in...I'm so glad no one convinced me to repaint my green walls. My little cottage in northern Michigan is chock full of a lifetime of finds and color everywhere...no one here seems to understand my aesthetic. People always say I have too many lamps. Too many lamps?! Is that an oxymoron? My Mother used to say I had a rug problem and needed to learn to "just say no to rugs..." BUT WHY?! You validate my concept of beauty and it makes me JUST SO DARN HAPPY watching these videos. You validate my life (just kidding. sort of.) THANK YOU! I'm going back to painting now...

I ordered 'Near and Far' a few days ago for a xmas gift from me to me and then thought yesterday that it has been a while since you posted a video ! Of all the houses I see pop up in magasines and books THIS one is the most me in every way and seeing it here during one of your visits is a wonderful treat ! I love colour and pictures ( I have hundreds ) and books ( I have thousands ) and all those gorgeous textiles ( again I have a huge collection ) I need the appropriate house to put it all in and this one would be my dream. @@susannasalk7153 I love it that you always reply to comments, makes us feel part of the visit ! One thing Penny says that is essentiel is when you go shopping, Don't ask ' do I need it' or 'can I afford it' or 'WHERE am I going to put it' ! I love layering. I tend to buy things and then put them down and they seem to blend in to the background and stay there until I suddenly 'see' it again and find it's place. I get so enthousiastic about a drawing or print then find the right frame in my stock of frames then when it's done I sort of forget it and move on to pillows or Something else. I ADD before someone thinks I am a reckless purchaser I only buy bargains!

To me, all the treasures in Penny's home represent a map of her life. I love that she surrounds herself with things that bring her joy and validate a life worth living.
What impresses me is after having had a tour of her home, I am left with an impression of who actually lives there. I find nowadays, so many people's places all
look the same and with what I would call, cookie cutter decorating. Who wants to live in a home where everything matches and looks like it was all purchased on
the same day at the same store--including the book jacket on the coffee table. No thanks! You have a lovely home, Penny, and certainly one that is loved.

@50Street21, You said it. I got bombed with negative comments after visiting the Architectural Digest channel. I wondered aloud where the personal effects were that to me, makes a house a home. My observation was not, to put it lightly, received well. My response was to quit watching theirs and start watching Quintessence, where I have been happy and cozy ever since.

The color of the wall 'Arsenic' is really beautiful and fresh looking. I love white walls everywhere but after seeing this video I have a new opinion on colored walls. The most amazing about this gorgeous home is the surroundings. Absolutely stunning, very beautiful and very British.

ok, this is fabulous. A real treat. Who doesn't love Penny Morrison? I've admired this house in magazines for years. However, there is something that needs to be fessed up to. I do not believe for a minute she has those dogs sleeping on the chairs and sofas without covers. I even upholster my own furniture, but I have covers for everything because of the dogs. I wish that we could have a special just on how people actually live with dogs. You see some of this here---I also have the Indian cloths all over everything. But I am religious about keeping dog covers everywhere--and cat covers too. I make my ottomon cover like a crib sheet that I can just zip off, wash and put back on. I love to see the way that people use dog covers. Bunny Williams does the same thing, too. My couch looks brand new, and that's because it never sees the light of day. The dogs, adult children, children, and everyone plots up on the pillows---lays out, etc, and I always have a nice cover draped over it. Thanks for this---but I do think we do a small disservice when one doesn't occasionally mention how dog covers work.
Her dogs sat everywhere... But did you see the Carolyne Roehm in Charleston video? She speak to this specifically.
