- Barry Dixon invites us into Elway Hall, a 1907 Edwardian estate, located on nearly 300 acres of farmland in the heart of Virginia’s horse country. The interior designer feels more like a steward than an owner, and celebrates the stately home designed by famed architect H.H. Richardson. For Dixon, who epitomizes Southern hospitality, being a steward means sharing the house with family, friends, charities, the Warrenton Hunt, and now Schumacher! So giddy up and get ready to explore Elway Hall, where Dixon’s childhood spent abroad and the lush surrounding landscape infuse the estate with international charm.

@@monkeygraborange It's pretty gruesome...most of the time the fox is ripped in pieces, the tail is kept as a trophy and often used in initiation of new hunt members....

I can completely identify with the sentiment of the pea gravel drive. Wow! This home is beyond gorgeous, I love that its livable and collected. The ambiance wants you want to pack a suitcase and just go for a visit and out of all the homes I have viewed this one does my heart a lot of good. Yes, it looks like how a home should feel.

One of the few houses I’ve seen where everything is perfect! I was also excited to see the landscape of that lovely area because that is where my Father‘s family comes from dating back to the early 1700s

“Quilted the house into place”. That says it all perfectly. My husband and I are now focusing in earnest on the interior of our 1883 shingle style house after years of construction. This was really helpful. Thanks for sharing!!

Almost had to stop watching when I saw the hunters & hounds. I care for a feral cat colony and a mother fox and her kits came a calling when they discovered the daily cat food. The thought of hunting these beautiful animals sickens me but then Mr. Dixon said the magic words… “ no kill hunt” and I was able to proceed and view his magnificent home and property.

Have followed Barry Dixon for 11 years. Have followed and watched uncounted videos on design and decor. Barry is and always will be in
the stratosphere for me. I cannot get enough of his genius from the heft of a small piece of fabric to the bigger pieces and their grand presentation....he is the greatest. His bedrooms are particlularly appealing to me. So gorgeous in his use of comfort and beautiful style that lend to the magic of sleep.
Protect all these old houses at all cost, the quality and craftmanship of these houses are not easily reproduced much these days!

Barry and Will’s incredible generosity in sharing their home with numerous community events is beyond gracious. The biggest takeaway from the decor is the ultimate and thoughtful layering of color, texture and the stories the pieces tell. The mixture of antiques and everyday items truly makes this grand house a welcoming home.

I fully understand your closeness and affection for your home. My partner and I moved into our home 43 years ago as young men, I was 35 he was 26. We loved it and over the years added to it. My beloved passed away nearly three years ago after 47 years of being together, leaving me devastated, and I still am. My message is enjoy every day together along with your friends. God Bless.
Perfection! I have coasters around our house but after watching this I'm removing them. He made a very good point.
It is very true what they said about having coasters around the house. I just don’t bother to force my guests to use them.
Why remove your coasters? They protect your valuable furniture. No need to "force" anyone to do anything. Some people burp at the table...you can't force them not to. Some people will put a wet glass on a mahogany table and leave a ring. Putting coasters on your valuable furniture gives your guests the chance to respect your hospitality and home if they choose to.

REALLY NICE AND DONE WELL.
I put coasters out to protect my wood surfaces. I have friends that have no concept of how to care for things, and I’m not about to give them freedom to ruin my furniture just because they don’t know how to live with nice things. It’s not being inhospitable, it’s being cautious and careful of the things I’ve worked hard for.

Usually preferring modern architecture, I didn't want to like this, I really didn't but oh my gosh, I do! A bit too frilly and busy for my sensibilities,to be honest, but it feels so warm and inviting and liveable, and the owners have such a great attitude to the property that I found myself loving it in spite of myself ❤
