After the war, lots of refugees will return to the donbass, they overwhelmingly voted to be part of Russia in their referendums. That’s why often we hear people are reluctant to be evacuated and the Ukrainians don’t let them move forward into Russian held territories and they were the first to be press ganged( policy of sending those who most likely wanted to be part of Russia to die first)

This war was originally a civil caused by a coup that put into power a government that perused a policy of ethnic persecution based on the same political model popular in many western European nations in the 1930's that led to WW 2. This civil war raged for 8 years during which the western backed government forces continuously shelled ethnic Russian civilians killing 16,000 of them.
There were two Minsk agreement signed into law in the UNSC that were signed and agreed by Ukraine, Germany and France on the one side and the Free Dobas territories along with Russia on the other side.
Ukraine and it's western sponsors refused to enact the agreements they had made and continued to bombard civilians mercilessly, over a thousand children were massacred by this unholy western alliance.
It should have been a UN peace keeping force that went in to stop this civil war but the very people and nations committing these war crimes control the UN with 3 of the 5 permanent seats on the UNSC and so Russia was left on it's own to try and bring this civil war to an end, that should never have happened in the modern world.
Where was there any nation other than Russia prepared to stop the slaughter of civilians by the west, There were none, they were all silent and that is why so many millions have died and many more millions have lost their homes and become refugees in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and in many other nations across the world, because no nation dare stand against the west.
Now Russia has had enough, and at great risk has stood against the west, if they win in this confrontation the myth of western supremacy will be shattered and the west will find it much more difficult to continue with it's mindless slaughter of people all over the world.
That is why the west wants this war fought to the last Ukrainian, because they do not have the guts to fight Russia themselves others must die in their millions for them, the west is happy to slaughter civilians all over the world in it's little wars, it is not quite so keen to fight the Russian army.

Russia is not fighting the West. The Russian forces are getting depleted fighting western equipment. If Russia was fighting the west it would not have been fought this way. The mass of destruction at the border would have been catastrophic if they truly were fighting the West.
This war and the rest of the wars going on today shows just how uncivilized we still are. What a waste. Russian citizens are not much different from Canadians. Hard working people who like to have a drink now and then. We all want the best for our families. The cost of war is not worth it. I do wish all wars would stop and we all could live in harmony and peace.

Of course they have less children than its needed 2.1 per woman but they are far better off than some other important countries like Japan, Korea, Germany, Italy, Turkey etc Ukraine can not be even counted and still be fair, because they are so devasted they will be after generational turn over a people of 10 million like Hungarians.

Well the casualty figures posted by Ukraine are rubbish. One can easily make an educated guess from the frontline positions. Russia started the war with close to 150k, added another 700k over two years. Currently their estimated force on the front is 600k, so the casualty figure could potentially be 50k Kia and 100k injured. That is close to the figures posted by media zona that is the only organization keeping a realistic track of the casualty figures. Similarly on the Ukrainian side, their force at the start was 800k, they conscripted another 300k to 400k plus around 50k foreign legion. They are currently half that number according to the Ukraine government figures including the last reserves that were used in Kharkiv. This brings their casualty figure to around 600k meaning 200k dead and 400k wounded. Now these are estimates but way more realistic than what’s coming out of Kiev. If Russia lost 650k dead and 1.3 million wounded, the war would have been long over.

Willy, I don't get You. On the one hand You say that all numbers should be taken with a grain of salt the size of Ayer's rock and then you spend 20+ minutes mucking about in all those controversial numbers. Also replacement rates of the central Asian states doesn't give Russia jack shit since right now Russia's biggest internal issue that is being widely debated in Russian society is MIGRATION. Same as the people of Europe and NA are deeply dissatisfied with how immigrants act and how they refuse to assimilate, Russians are outraged at the crime rates among migrants and at how they manage to escape justice via strong diasporal semi-criminal organizations that have corrupt relationship with local law enforcement. Only now laws that would force fresh Russian citizens go through military enlistment are being suggested and that is already scaring out a lot of migrants. In short - in the majority, Uzbeks et al don't want to fight for Russia and Russians don't want a massive influx of Uzbeks and the sort.

  • @hristohristov6118

I cold not find it in the top comments , but keep in mind that some of the population that emigrated from Ukraine moved to Russia or is living on the parts that are newly added to Russia. From the annexation Crimea itself - it was 2 mil. The other regions in the Donbas are at least 6-8 M people - that will not return in Ukraine but in Russia. So the Napkin math is showing that Russia gained 8-10 M population for loosing 0,5 mil. For the Ukraine the account is all negative - lost 8 mil. to Russia ~6-8 mil emigration to EU, on top of the military casualties…

these young people leaving usually have been invested in a lot by their country of origin like education (schools, teachers,universities,...), as well as direct payments (family bonuses, etc.).
only extremely rarely the diaspora people biring or send equivalent money back, not to talk about the missing taxes and social insurance payments, that they are paying into the systems of the country they emigrated to instead... and the everyday spending as well as larger investments (housing,...) usually go only to the economies of the host country as well.

Russia should take some of those 12 Trillion in natural resources Lindsay Graham claims are in the Donbass, and invest in Russian people, incentivize families to have more kids, provide good quality low cost housing and child care, good free education all the way up to 3rd level, increase Russia's self sufficiency, sanctions have shown that Russia does not need to buy everything from Europe, start building up your own industries this will create good paying jobs for the these newly produced kids, invest in good quality healthcare meaning the older generations can live longer and in good health, so they can pass on knowledge and help out with raising these hopefully larger families, stamp out the LGBTQ mind virus that has infected the west and is a tool of a certain group to reduce the population in white majority countries, so they can more easily be REPLACED. Russia needs to crack down on their oligarch class, who take vast amounts of Russian wealth and waste in on property and yaughts in the west, which the west just steal when they feel like it, encourage them if you cannot eliminate them to at least invest some of that money developing Russia, Russia is vast enough to have some amazing ski resorts and other internal vacation locations
