    Saw him multiple times in the 70's. Best live shows ever! Taken too soon. His battered 61 Strat and all his equipment just sold at auction. There was a great deal done between collectors, the family, and the Irish government to allow the Strat to be sold at a relatively low price ($1.1 million) and be donated to the people of Ireland. I expected the Strat actually had value of $3-5 million. Sheena Crowley, the daughter of the gentleman who sold him the Strat, raised $$ for a Cork Music Museum and managed to get some of the other guitars. The people bidding realized that important pieces of equipment needed to stay in Ireland.

      I fully agree with what you said about Rory and his band, we must have rubbed shoulders at some of those concerns gigs, I’m also very delighted that Rory’s main guitar and some of his other guitars and equipment have stayed in Ireland and is now fully owned by the Irish people .Rory’s Strat is one of Ireland’s greatest treasures and will be looked on in years to come in similar light as Brian Boru’s harp. I am also one of those very lucky people who now own one of Rory’s rare guitars so from now on I will be putting in many hours, days, weeks, months and years of practice to try to learn how to play it a little

      @BarrackObamna 6 днів тому

      @@stevejeffrey11 I know the history. It’s laughable to really act like the numbers are even close to the same. It’s always been a trope. You can also do some research that brings up a black man as the first slave owner.
      If you look further back we enslaved the natives but they couldn’t survive malaria. Then it was determined that it was a better investment to purchase African slaves because if you are going to spend a lot of money on a human, you don’t want them to die from malaria which the south had a big problem with.
      I’m not denying that there were Irish “slaves” but Irish servants never ever had a hereditary slave population. The conditions of indentured servants and slaves werent that far off from eachother but theres a major issue with making a bad deal and calling it slavery. No one ever went off the coast of Ireland and forcibly removed people from their land to take to another continent for the rest of their lineage to be enslaved, if you were an Irish servant your kids weren’t owned by your boss….
      I’m American Irish I know the stories. But it’s laughable to compare it to the rounding up of entire African villages by other Africans to sell to others. there’s a massive contextual difference in how these two forms of slavery transpired
      Also most Irish slaves had a time limit and it was truly indentured servitude with HORRIBLE conditions.
      If an Irish person had a child their children weren’t deemed the property of their owner, which is substantially different than African chattel slavery, and most if not all of these cases of “Irish slaves” are really just a bad deal- not slavery.

    Several of my brothers and I were very lucky ones to have attended many (but no, not enough) Rory Gallagher gigs/ concerts over the years.. We often said to each other during those concerts, those are very special days to be able to see the greatest rocking bands on stage like Rory Gallager and his boys also Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy lads, I know that if God and his dearest and only son Jesus had come up to us during those concerts and say come with us boys now as your place in Heaven is ready for you and you will enjoy eternal peace and happiness for evermore I know that we would have said dear God and Jesus, can we please stay on earth until the end of those Rory Gallagher/Thin Lizzy concerts, we do not want to miss seeing Rory and his band also Phil and the Lizzy boys playing live on stage. I am very happy that the Irish state and all the Irish people now fully own Rory's main guitar. I am one of the very lucky people who also own one of Rory other guitars. With Rory's guitars and equipment now in the hands of many people, Please God we will see those Rory guitars and other instruments being played live on stage for years and years to come
