I bought a white Japanese Saturn a few years ago just so I could play XMen vs Street Fighter and Marvel vs SF. Excellent games on the Saturn. Also, Assault Suit Leynos 2 is an amazing 2D mech game for the Saturn that is getting ported to the Switch this year I believe with an English translation.
I have two Saturn consoles now. It is truly a great console and VERY underrated. It's still cheap, for now. Also, a word of advice on the CR2032 battery. If you do not leave the Saturn plugged into the wall the battery life is around a month. I found that out the hard way as I generally kill power to all of my machines when not in use. If no power (even with the Saturn OFF), the battery is being used bigtime. If you have the Saturn always plugged into an active wall outlet the battery will last 2 years.
And since you had mentioned the Jaguar, Tempest 2000 was one of its top hits as most people know and is (was) a reason to own a Jaguar. Well, there is a Saturn version of T2K and it is fantastic!
Wow, I didn't know that about the battery. Thanks! The Saturn version of Tempest 2000 is virtually identical to the Jaguar version too, which is fantastic. Let's face it, the only reason to own a Jaguar is for Alien vs Predator 😄
@@OregonPacifist There are a few nice homebrews on the Jaguar, but nothing worth the current asking prices. I had a Jag and a near complete collection but sold it off not too long ago while the market for it is strong. As for the Saturn, the reason for that battery thing is because of the clock. The Saturn is designed to trickle wall power for the clock when plugged in, even when it is off. But, use the coin cell battery for the clock if unplugged. For some reason that clock really sucked the life out of the battery so it was a good design decision on the part of Sega to allow the Saturn to save the battery when the console is plugged in.
Same. A few months ago I started buying all the old consoles. I had built a batocera box that played any game but it wasn't wasn't same as having the actual consoles. The Saturn is one I have been looking for!
Well, you know what to do! Your Saturn is out there waiting to be purchased!
It's good to see another new Saturn fan! I didn't get one until 2018 and I still play it all the time. It's the oldest console hooked up in my living room, heh
Glad I picked up a Saturn in Japan. Its a system that went past me as I was all about PS1 back in the day.
Place a dead battery in the stunner (or a metal weight of similar size.) The mold was designed to house one to add some weight and make it feel a little better. If you are also this interested in the Saturn, you may want to play with some of us in the community online with it.
Ooh I didn't know that about the battery! Thanks for the comment. And playing the Saturn online? I had no idea that was possible 😅
@@OregonPacifist it is very possible, and we even have people competing in tournaments.
@@OregonPacifist oh, it is very possible. We even have people competing in tournaments.
Hell yeah! The Saturn has tons of awesome games. Such an overlooked platform.
It’s funny I’ve been thinking about trying to get my hands on a Sega Saturn, but I seem to recall a problem with the Sega CD being that most discs for that System are pretty much scratch the hell by now and I was worried that Saturn might have a similar problem, but with that expansion cartridge it pretty much becomes a non-issue.
I just bought a Saturn Saroo console modded can't wait till it gets here.
I loving my modded Dreamcast
Nice! You’re going to love it
Gab sent me lol
For $100, I may have to get this! Looks killer!
At some point the pricing for retro games have to come down.
Nice! , your raspberry video inspired me to look for a way to play with a light gun, it seems fun and different.
I was thinking about getting a super scope because I have a snes, but went for a ps1 including a gun instead. Hope you enjoy the new console and the exclusives too! 😎
Oh yeah, I’ve been really enjoying the Saturn lately. It’s gaming fun in its purest form.
As a kid I remember seeing a demo unit in the grocery store (really) running Clockwork Knight. To me I didn't get what the big deal was because Donkey Kong Country looked so much better to me on the SNES. After seeing the price i thought, no way.
You’re right that Clockwork Knight doesn’t quite match DKC’s level of quality, but then again that game isn’t the best the Saturn was capable of. I can understand why you’d pass on a Saturn if that game was your primary introduction to the console 😄
For the price of the Fenrir, I would have expected a better looking games menu screen.
It looks fine to me. Yeah it's pretty basic, but it just needs to be able to load the games, which it does.
You're a bad influence. This was the tipping point, I finally caved and bought one. I used to dev for this console, it's as much of a sexy beast on the inside as its games btw. I'll probably have to cave and buy a proper non-wood-paneled CRT now :(
Check your local recycling center for a CRT. I found one there that works perfectly fine 😄 I have the Saturn hooked up through S-video. Enjoy your Saturn!
@@OregonPacifist ooh good idea, I'll try that
I know and we're starting to get more and more Japanese games translated to English. And yes I will be getting my Saturn and a Dreamcast very shortly as for some strange reason I just want them consoles because I did have them when I was a teen and I think this is the last opportunity to get one without killing your wallet they are a little more pricey now but it's time
welcome to saturn world! Great Video. I'm collecting and playing Saturn for 24 years now! Its my favorite sega system. Also got a Fenrir Saturn this year. But the Action Replay doesnt really work with my fenrir console. it works fine as a ram card but the games won't recognize it as a memory card :( Panzer Dragoon Saga even says to remove it cause it won't start with it. I own the same as you showed in the video.
Higly recommend you an upscaler for your retrogaming videos cause the gameplay footage was a little muddy. But otherwise great video :)
Thanks for the comment. The gameplay footage seemed muddy because it’s going through my CRT TV via composite 😄 Which upscaler would you recommend if I wanted to hook my Saturn up to a modern TV?
I haven’t tried Panzer Dragoon Saga yet with the Action Replay 🤔 I’ll test it out and see how it goes.
Edit: You’re right. Panzer Dragoon Saga totally doesn’t boot if you have the Action Reply inserted 😄
This is like a sales video for aftermarket dark 3rd party accessories
Nice new hair! 💇🏻♂️
Thanks, man! I love it 😄
I never had a Sega Saturn but but my parents got me a ps1 for chrismas wich I had no clue of even thou I was more a outside kid at that time.
The PS1 is a great console too with a massive library of games. It’s a little more difficult to mod though 😅
@@OregonPacifist oh my buddy try'd moding one he almost gave up
Especially a good time to buy a Saturn now that we have the Satiator. There’s no excuse for any Saturn owner not to buy a satiator. Every game on a little device you stick in the back and for just the cost of one expensive Saturn game, all the games on one cartridge.
I can’t believe I forgot to mention the Satiator. It’s a fantastic piece of hardware and requires no modding whatsoever. It’s significantly more expensive than the Fenrir though.
Only reason I opted out of the Satiator is I have a VCD card and watch VCDs on my Saturn
Me too. I got a Fenrir in one, and a Saroo coming in. Need Lunar the Silver Star Story Complete on standby.
Where can I find one for $100? I haven't seen one that gives me any confidence less that $200.
The Japanese models are typically cheaper, like the one I have and this one: www.ebay.com/itm/166777446903
@@OregonPacifist Thanks for that. I might look into getting a cheap one that has problems then upgrade/fixit using stuff from Stone Age Gamer. Which kinda defeats my purpose of finding one I can afford.
Sega does what
Nintendont
Got mines lol
Are the loading times a little bit faster with the fenrir?
They seem about the same to me
This mod or MODE? Which one is better?
I have no experience with MODE, but the Fenrir was super easy to install and works beautifully.
What is the game at 4:45?
Contra: Legacy of War 😎
