- One of the most iconic paintings in British and American history, The Blue Boy, made around 1770 by English painter Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788), is undergoing its first major conservation treatment since its acquisition in 1921.

I am so excited to visit Blue Boy when it comes back into the galleries. And while I have nothing but respect and admiration for the work of conservators like Alan Phenix, I really wanted to hear from the lady actually performing the work. I hope this is not just another of those cases where the worker bees do all the labor intensive work, and the senior management gets all the credit.
She is very busy but plans to sit down for an interview this summer. Stay tuned for the next video!
@@TheHuntington That's so nice to hear. Looking forward to it.
on the xray image of the painting, it looks like there is another head above the blue boy's head.. what is that from? was that on the original canvas or the lining underneath the top canvas?
Bluetiful!
Why is the conservator who is actually working on conserving this not interviewed???
She sat down for an interview when the project started: ua-cam.com/video/WHPiJq0iwC0/v-deo.html
I just wish they could pronounce the painters name correctly
What about African art? Is that worth saving?
🤣Why don't you ask African conservators? African art museums? Aficans who give donations to facilities who take care of African interests? Get back to us.
Why not take a High-Resolution Photo of the Painting, use Photoshop to touch up the photo then "Canvas Print" the Full-Size Painting for public display! Original should be store in Seal (Transparent) Storage Case!
