    Jynx's original design wasn't black face, it was supposed to parody the weird fashion in Japan at the time called Ganguro. It was a trend where teenagers bleach their hair, have tan skin, and brightly colored makeup in a strange way to rebel against on what was normally considered attractive. Although the term in english is black face, the sole intent wasn't to mock a certain race. Hell, even Jesse and James were doing it in episode 16.

      It isn't the only time when americans look for blackface among people from other countries who have no idea what it is, because they have different culture maybe and have literally nothing to do with blackface.

      Idk man I literally see nothing political or cultural with a person or animal being completely black. I think it adds some variety to the world you know. Why cant everyone think like me? In the end the intention of the guy who made it matters. Not what you percieve of it.

      Not even that.
      It's Japanese name is literally ice witch Wich also happens to be the name of a character from Japanese mythology who's defining feature is having blond hair, skin covered in frost bite and dancing on top of icy mountains
      Now read jynx's Pokedex entries

      @@inu4771 theres cultural differences ofc 💀 thats how most things are, its not that Americans are being sensitive it just that in their culture norms, with a history of racism ofc they would be a little upset due to the resemblance, its not as if nintendo did it on purpose

    The official name of the Yellow Version of Pokemon in both Japan and elsewhere is definitely "Pokemon: Special Pikachu Edition", because the official name of the original games were both "Pokemon". The version colors and differences were solely there to promote player trading and increase sales, the color being a sub-title that denoted which mons were available to you so players could quickly identify other players. It wasn't until generation 2 that the colors were meant to be the actual game title since they realized that's what people were calling them anyway.

    • @dreckel6572
      @dreckel6572 Рік тому

      Exactly. Thus its not called "Pokemon Red" but Pokemon: Red Version. So at the point of yellows release its been Pokemon and Pokemon Special Pikachu Edition. And its been like that everywhere, not just in Japan. In fact it even says it on the cover. No clue how one would miss that

    • @DeepFriedOreoOffline
      @DeepFriedOreoOffline Рік тому

      @@dreckel6572 I am not sure what you think I missed...
      If you google and look at the original carts for Red and Blue, they just read "Pokemon". The colours were specifically as a way to denote the available Pokemon for player trading as a way to increase sales. With Yellow, the cart just reads "Pokemon: Special Pikachu Edition". In the first gen, the subtext "Red Version", "Blue Version", and "Yellow Version" were just there was a way to identify them for parents, and people buying the games as gifts.
      It wasn't until Gen 2 where "Silver Version", "Gold Version", and "Crystal Version" were used as direct subtitles. Which saved them from calling Crystal "Special Suicune Edition". Though if we're going to get specific, the games of Gen 2 are actually called "Pokemon GS: Silver Version" and so on.

    Technically neither one is supposed to be blackface. Mr. Popo is a genie, and Jynx is based on a witch from Japanese folklore called Yama-uba or Yamanba. The term Yamanba is also used to describe a variation of the Ganguro fashion in Japan, where girls have dark tans, bleached hair and copious amounts of makeup.

    I think the reason beedrill isnt called stinger is due to firstly not being some sort of word play like every other pokemon name, but also because of the "stinger" rocket being heavily used in 1980s/1990s wars. So esp in the US that might not have been the best option to name a monster in a kids game just like that.

    well, yellow technically isnt a GBC game but a GameBoy game. Even if you play the original games (Blue and Red), theyll have a certain tone to them depending on the version. So instead of the Gamboys monochrome, on GBC it would be "monored"/"monoblue" so to say. Same with Pokemon Yellow, its a GameBoy game with the special feature of having color if you play it on GBC. Which doesnt make it a GBC game. It also was released as a GameBoy game, not as a GBC game. First Pokemon games to be release like that are Silver and Gold (as you probably know)
