all you need now are EU bumpers
Was about to comment the same thing.
Would not be mad at a blown K-Swap.
Needs euro bumpers asap
Yes bumpers please!!
These ARE Euro bumpers. I think you're referring to aftermarket bumpers with the rubber bumperettes. Porsche never made a 930 without them.
Damn, that looks good.
this car is awesome and I totally love and respect what you did. I have a long term project (still in university) where I'm going to do something similar. When i found this series of videos I was so happy to see someone who had a similar idea to mine. I love the idea of making a car yours by moulding it to your dreams. awesome, keep up the good work!
The only thing that really stands out now is the bumpers, they seem just as bulky as the spoiler was. Now, with out it, the bumpers REALLY seem to stand out
Ive got a few plans for that :)
Yep. That looks good... The funny thing the SPEED ACADEMY porsche has only been seen standing still... Make it go fast!
Last video of the season we go for a drive!
I honestly preferred the old spoiler. It's like swapping an RS500 rear wing for the normal Sierra RS Cosworth one. Both look good, but it never looks better IMO. Car is still awesome though!
I just find the stock spoiler too bulky, this one resembles the older 930 non-intercooled spoiler which is ultimately what I would want.
I'm with you..... always preferred the early turbo spoiler.
Make it yours, Pete!
Without going into too much detail, this car is kind of the opposite of an RWB Porsche. It's still modified, so it's not a purist's car, but instead of making the car scream at you visually, you've built a car that speaks to subtlety and simplicity, but still looks miles apart from a standard 930. For the record, I love the way Nakai-san builds his cars, but I could never drive one; I don't like getting that much attention on the road.
You sir are on my page. I want the same thing. A 930 that to the untrained eye looks like any other 911 out there. But to an enthusiast there are small details that make it stand out.
This is the same way most of the more respected muscle cars are built: Recognisable to everybody, but the people who know the cars can see all the sometimes hundreds of changes done.
At first I was like eh. Then after I saw it I was like yea lol
Agreed, actually looks really good.
Same same!
Yes, same here.
I would watch the intake temps and see if they change noticeably. I believe the stock wing lip creates a high pressure zone to assist pushing air through the intercooler.
It looks great though!
I'll certainly watch them and see
Dream car
Continues to be one of the best looking cars in your fleet.
Thank you!
Porsche does everything for a reason! The original looks way better than that new old one your putting on. That original one your about to take off catches more air for the intercooler! That's why the it comes up on all sides! They catch more air. Remember Porsche does everything for a reason!!!
That does look good, kudos to you for modifying your 930!
Do bumpers next! Looks great though
Looking into it but they cost 1K each for fiberglass replacements so its a hard sell for me.
I know it has been years, but RS bumpers on your car would be pretty sweet
Looks Much Better Dude!
It looks way better then b4 !! I'm a FAN 👍👍 sick ride
Thanks!
Polished/silver lips, euro bumpers. Winning!
I like the look of the old wing more, but I think maybe it'll actually give you better gas mileage with the old one? It may actually pay itself off after a long while.
To each their own, I'm glad you're having fun building your car.
Strangely enough I liked the mirrors you added.
The wing has little to no effect on gas mileage. My foot is really the deciding factor.
Speed Academy yeah. I see less downforce as more gas mileage, so if it loses anything in performance you'd be gaining perhaps a miniscule amount on the highway. It is just a somewhat weak piece of plastic though, so I would guess it wouldn't be enough to affect anything in the real world.
I hope it's working out good for you and that your next modification is coming on well!
clean and simple upgrade
Thanks!
Wow, that really does look a lot better!
Thank you!
Nice job on this! I was reading Octane Magazine which featured an early 1975 turbo and noticed the difference in spoilers, which prompted me to check online and found your video. Definitely prefer the earlier style versus the tea-tray -- so happy to see you doing this upgrade! Also, how do you like the 4 speed in the 930?
Those bumper over-rider things on the back need to be introduced to the Art Bin.
Haha, they soon will!
looks great. not a fan of the bolts that form a ring around the wheels but thats just a personal preference thing
They may get blacked out.
Just found out about your channel. Great car! Great voice to listen to! Got my sub
You lucky duck! Excellent taste BTW.
Looks way better! Nice job
im liking this as well. though i have always enjoyed the massive spoiler of the turbos this is defiantly a cleaner look.
I find the tea tray gives too much overhang in the rear.
Any idea if the change affects intake temperatures / intercooler efficiency? Streamlining the wing should reduce the pressure above the IC, therefore reducing the airflow? If you plan on staying below 100km/h then it probably doesn't matter..
Exactly, at the speeds that I drive this car I can't imagine there to be any significant changes. Plus as I mentioned alot of the RUF turbo cars ran this style of spoiler and they drove them hard.
I do like it. I don’t like how it is a different shade of black because of the different material, that is only a nit picky thing though.
Is shaving the drip rails a thing on these cars? Too much work?
It being a rubber makes it very hard to paint and some people have done it but like you said a lot of work and few want to ruin the originality of these cars now.
Great work Peter! love your knarley 930 black beauty. My dream car.
Finally time to get rid of the rear bumper blocks!
Definitely going to try that look.
Not for me but I like it for your car! with the more modern motif!
Thanks! Once I went EFI it was time to modify the car just how I wanted it. Hope you're enjoying that K27 turbo!
For sure! It's a blessing in disguise when your car isn't original and you can modify it how you want!
I feel you've created a terrific tribute to wangan midnight here.
Thanks!
The new tail looks sick, however you gotta do something about those American-spec bumpers!
Look closely at this picture: motorbase.s3.amazonaws.com/pictures/contributions/000121b/std_1983_porsche_930_turbo_2.jpg
Then examine my car. :) Hint: it already has euro bumpers!
What a beautiful car.
looks great.
are you going to do a delete on the bumpers?
the scronchy part bothers me a bit..
The rubber bumperettes will go but the accordion style rubber stays unless I completely replace the bumpers.
It does look much better and more capable (as in lighter with a more aero performance).
Thanks, I think it also has a better profile.
We need an update on Ken's rotary
FRIDAY!!
Pete, I'm in love with it!!
Please get rid of the USDM bumpers!! As a guy from the uk those huge bumpers let it down.
Those are Euro bumpers and I will be removing them in the future.
What year was the donated rear deck lip from? Or what type exactly? Trying to achieve the same.
Dunno if the new wing is better
Looks like a success to me, PT.
I really like the look of the new spoiler lip, would be even nicer if if it was made out of fiberglass aswell, so it could be the same glossy black at the car, that would really give the car a more modern look, what's next bumpers?
I certainly hope so! Just need to pony up the big bucks and buy em.
Patiently waiting for the s2000 videos
And we're waiting for news on our motor. To say the engine rebuilder is taking his time is an understatement.
I have an '87 Carrera its been my daily driver for twenty years; my rear spoiler is cracking at studs, where did you find your replacement?
I think it looks good. Is there options for the bulky front/rear bumpers?
Theres this option: www.gt-racing.com/911-ruf-yellowbird-style-front-bumper-9-narrow-body-74-89-part-47/
so beautiful, definitely a good choice
Looks clean
It looks good, but I prefer the tea tray.
Looks good. Needs some EU bumpers. Would complete the slick look
It already has EU bumpers!
It looks great but now when people see it they are going to think its a carrera. My dad had a carrera and I really love the look of the sleeker more refined wing.
But if you're a true Porsche head then you'll be able to tell that its not ;)
Looks rlly good
Looks Great - totally worth the extra effort to fit the tail! Now post some driving vids!
Last video of the season will be a driving one!
Looks good PT !
Thanks!
I'm just holding out to see you guys/Ken fix the 260Z and do a 911 vs Z showdown.
Also still think louvered lexan rear quarter windows would just make it.
Look nice man, nice job.
Looks good, keep it!
Looks sick!
Thanks!
Maybe get it painted... look's great!
I think the corners do not line up perfect because you had to spread out the sides .
You're right, the non turbo spoiler has less width.
Car is stunning. Bumpers next ??
Thats the plan!
Why did you buy an old 911 turbo if you don't like how it looks ?? Could have been cheaper to buy an other model and tune that. A friend of mine has the euro spec turbo and I think it looks amazing !
This is a euro spec turbo and why wouldnt I modify it if I think it can look better.
Love it !
RWB kit next ?
No RWB. I like the original lines too much
I like it! I didn't think I would aha
Now if we could only see and hear it go. Preferably before winter.
Driving video coming before winter storage!
Looks great
Looks good!
Rear window visor! (Any size) and a more “sportier” front lip and i think that could be it
No front lips exist, only CF splitters but I dont like the look. I'd like to find a RUF front valance though as I think that could set the look off.
Damn. I want that car.
Definitely a win..
Where did you buy this? I'd like to swap mine.
would've been awesome if you had a before and after photo side by side
Very very nice!
Where did you buy the lip?
I like the new spoiler. As was stated by another commenter, those bumpers are super non-streamlined. That's the only other thing I'd like to see addressed.
That's next on the list.
Nice! What year is it?
1987
Tons better.
But yeah for the euro bumpers.
Love the mirrors and wing! Car looks amazing, but as others have said, those bumpers have gotta go!
I actually prefer the tea tray over the whale tail. More classy.
Great idea for looks..Bad idea for performance..the original would scoop more air into ther intercooler I would think although if RUF used the streamlined one I guess it should be okay.....although they drive at 200mph....the extra holes should save weight too...
This mod has zero affect on the performance. If I lived in Germany then maybe but here in NA the speeds we do have very little affect on my driving experience with these mods.
I would have thought the old scoop would bring more cool air the the intercooler at lower speeds.....
The fins on the deck lid are curved to ingest air but honestly your guess is as good as mine if there's any real change because there's really no way for me to test it without installing temp sensors before and after the IC and changing the spoilers.
I wana see the S2000 :-(
thats what i subscribed for… havent watched or seen any more of those since their awesome fender flare video on the s2k. this is the first video i watched of them since subscribing and since that video lol
The S2000 is essentially done hence why we dont produce more content on it. We do have some videos coming up on it sadly because the engine blew so we'll be swapping it.
Ok understood, I just loved that build. Either way keep up with the great content!
Need a light tint to finish it off. Looks fantastic otherwise. Funny, I actually joined the military with the mission to get stationed in Germany and to buy a turbo 911. I was sent to ft bliss TX and bought a mustang. :(
I've been thinking about tint but a little worried the car may look too dark at that point.
And Mustangs arent bad at all, especially the new ones but I totally feel you on the Germany station and getting a 911
Speed Academy I think it would look sick man. I adore that 911.
Looking good
The mirrors have grown on me.
Why would you drill and not cut the studs?
I was so concerned it would pop out and damage his quarter panel at 3:08
I blew at my screen at 5:40, I need to get my brain checked.
Donz a , no one ever noticed that you had one...just saying
Can you get rid of those rear bumper rubbers that protrude out for US crash bs? I know with most US spec cars, generally the bumpers look pretty horrid with the rubbers removed from those 80's era cars, but possibly making a fiberglass insert and match painting or seeking the aftermarket? Those rear rubber pieces take away from the cleanliness.
You can remove the rubbers and the bumper doesnt look all that bad without them but the right way to do it is to buy a fiberglass unit which gets rid of all the rubber nonsense. Im just having a hard time justifying the $1000 dollar spend.
you ever going to post a driving video?
Very nice 👍
We sold an air cooled to buy a 997 911 and travel around the USA for 40 days (we've slept in the car about 20 nights). Love your 930 man! Check out our travels in the 997 here - bit.ly/IdealCars
Very cool! I've been eyeing 997s since they're such a great car so glad to see you guys are enjoying yours so much
good job.
When will you be driving it 😄😄👍🏻
its beautiful ugh.
Couldn't you fill that stripped hole in with JB Weld?
I could but just didnt have it in me...
really like it.
