I've commented before, but after my fifth view, I have to applaud this "Short (actually, way too Short)" film. Everything was spot on. From the plot, storytelling /writing, the excellent choice of location/scenery, the perfect inclusion and intensity of the music, the engaging and realistic acting (which goes high on the ranks with similar shorts in this genre), just ultra-captivating and an overall wonderful film! I'm a "post-apocalyptic short film junkie," (if that's a thing) and have viewed hundreds of this style of film, but I have to say, "SURREAL" IS Definitely in my top five! Absolutely enjoyed it! I would pay Theater prices for a full-length feature expanding on this film, minus the death of the lead actor, &finding out more about "MIA?" Thanks for such an entertaining event. I hope you have shown this to the Hollywood execs. There's so much potential here! Thanks for the great film! Best, Ej Burlington, Vt
I was captivated! The film's pacing was spot on with strong tension and compressed suspense. Most uncomfortable! An experience similar to watching original (Lem) Solaris. Well done everybody. Thank you.
I appreciate the feel of this short film. You def have a way of keeping the person captivated. The quality of the work is also quite amazing given the time constraints. Please keep up the good work.
You all did a great job with the quality filming and putting a film together so fast with so little. I can only imagine what you can do with time and a Hollywood sized budget.thumbs up
Surreal Great Film, mysterious and compelling. You do not need to preface your work with any explanation it is good on its own merit. Considering your time constraint, budget and other factors your film is fantastic. Keep it up, stick together. Please tell us what was she?
I enjoyed this! Although I do have to make fun of the guy saying he ran out of water and is thirsty as hell...with snow all around. Can this generation do nothing right?! JESUS!
Eating snow is a very bad idea and not an efficient way to stay hydrated! Your body has to melt it, which burns a lot of calories and brings your body temperature down. Not a good idea if you don't have enough to eat.
Good plot, good acting. Music is perfect for the mood. Can get a real feel for the characters. Scenery is awesome! Super creation for the short time you had to make this! 👍👍 2 thumbs up!!
Other than a drop off in sound level about half-way through this was a very well done film and even more amazing with the restrictions you were working under. Well done! Videography was excellent. Kudos to all.
Given your circumstances, all positive here. I see it as a feeler for a future more fully developed story, but it was enjoyable as is. Keep on keeping on guys and gals, looks like a promising future from my view!
Absolute top quality in terms of acting and photography. But quite simply - no story. Like wandering around in a forest and a couple fight scenes does not a story make. Give your script a beginning, middle and end and I’m sure you guys have a great future. All the best.
I love this it show what trying to take care of someone you don’t need they will always and I mean always be your ending and will not care 👏🏽 thank you great ending 👍🏽
L120 Films, I give you an E for Excellent. "Surreal" is the best title because it is surreal. This audience member is very intrigued about Mia and what her story is.
Guy who got stabbed DESERVED IT REALLY BAD for allowing SCUMBAG into the wire. Enemy deserves NO MERCY!!!!! Think war train or die first by far is who we are trained to kill for war is near not far
We wanted to really dirty up and wreck the clothing, but we weren't allowed being that the wardrobe was loaned to us by our school. Had we known earlier and had more time to find our own material, we would have made the clothing more apocalyptic like. Although I will admit we could've dirtied up the actors hair and faces more, but it's all a learning process. And now we know for the future. Cheers.
Never sleep on the ground. You will succumb to hypothermia. The ground removes heat from your body. Elevate bedding off of the ground with branches and bramble. Air is a good insulator. You must maintain body heat especially in a cold climate. In cold climates move slow. Sweat causes hypothermia and if you are overheated by your clothing then you will sweat. He was also ill equipped for long term survival. He also would have needed to have had a tarp.or plastic sheeting for wind shelter. Those with that will survive. Those lacking do not survive for long. The elements are your second greatest threat and near as much of a threat as a lack of drinkable water.. Priorities for survival are listed in order... WATER.. SHELTER.. FIREWOOD for a fire then FOOD
Not about the film, but if I were a survivor I would go south and live on a beach where it's warm, lay around naked and eat fish all day. Ta Hell with cold weather and no heat.
The reality is that in a post apocalyptic scenario, If you have the clothes and knowledge of how to survive and be self sufficient in the bush in the north country, a cold climate is far more survivable than a warm one. Look at this thread....everyone wants to go south and "escape the cold". 90 days after the balloon went up the vast majority of people in the north would be dead or will have migrated south. The fact is 90+% of the people living in the north have no survival or bush skills and would flee or die quickly. No one will be coming north post "event" and after such an event other humans are going to be the biggest threat to survival. Warm climates are going to be the go to place for hungry, desperate, unprepared people.
I liked this the atmosphere was good and the characters, but I do wish Mia would have kicked ass at the end to save her new friend she was starting to learn from. 😊
Very well done so ignore the naysayers .. Mia is something not quite human or a human who has been altered in some way, by design or by traumatic experience. Not eating or drinking is demonstrative of a physical change or alien composition. She seems very naive, almost as if she understands very little, yet she does follow commands. She does not speak but she listens carefully and believes Russell when he tells her people have "changed". and that people will kill you for no reason. She doesn't seem to understand how dangerous the second man is and is very altruistic towards him, offering him the water...but she witnesses the one man she trusts being murdered by an ugly piece of crap, then she will no longer trust anyone. I liked this a lot. It held my interest and has promise for more. Perhaps she has some connection to the aliens.
How do you know its "aliens"? A Pandemic could have caused this, or maybe a foreign invasion. I will agree that the girl probably did go through some traumatic experience. I'm prior military, over 60, and I live in a VERY corrupt County in Oregon. My first choice for a weapon is a military grade pepper spray, as I prefer NOT to kill, but in the situation with the second man, his behavior showed ALL of the indicators in which I WOULD dispatch him immediately!
He bought a house in Vancouver? Considering it's the 2nd most expensive place to live, he must've had a good job because the average house here is 1.3 million. Good flick and found it very entertaining!! Thanks for the upload!!

Interesting film. Tight deadline, low budget, small crew... not a bad effort.I was left, at the end of the movie, asking the obvious question, was the girl Mia from the "alien" ship? The other question I was left with was, the title doesn't seem, to me, to relate to the movie given the definition of surreal... did I miss something?
Lesson, leave stranger's on their own in those time's he was good until her,she gets him Killed and walks away SMH, surviving can be ruthlessness but only the strong survive.
You guys did fine. It was all ok. Story line was interesting enough to keep me and all those others I see made comments entertained. So now that you know you can do it, do it again...and next time, no Disclaimer.
usually when i click to check out a low or no budget film such as this, the acting and storyline is so bad i only make it a few minutes into it and cant take any more and stop watching. this one however was an exception to the rule. considering the limited time and resources you had to work with, you did a very good job. the fact i was captivated enough to watch the whole thing is proof of that. i really didn't see the end coming. about half way through, when the guy told the girl he was once married and it showed the woman from his memory i am assuming was his wife, and him saying he never had kids, and the apparent age of the young girl, and her gently touching his face and her insistance on following him, i had a train of thought. and that train of thought was that somehow he and his wife coulda been seperated for some months for some reason. i thought it possible that during the seperation she indeed did have their child and didnt tell him. it would have been fitting that the reason the girl kept following him and he didnt pull away when she touched his face, was she felt a father daughter connection with him, and she was indeed his kid and that in a post disaster situation like this a father and daughter finding each other would have been a glimmer of hope in an otherwise hopeless world. but alas that wasnt written into the script. with all that said i think the acting of the girl and leading male was actually better than i thought it was gonna be, it was believable. however the bad guy that came in and killed him , that actor needs some work. i found him to be cheesy and not believable. id like to see you take the storyline i suggested and make another movie. i'd look forward to seeing it
