    Seats with springs are suited for cruiser type bikes. My default bicycle is a Dutch style commuter bike, and a schwinn stingray. Both are cruiser type bikes. When I rode my friends MTB with a stiff saddle to school my butt was sore, so I definitely prefer seats with springs

      Yes. Springs do make a big difference.

    I bought this for my bike a year ago. Totally impressed. Bought my wife one this summer. Bragged it up to everyone. In the middle of the summer, the suspension of the spring has lessened. The spring seems to wear out after awhile. I am 200lbs. that might contribute to it. At $40 I guess you can replace it every 2 years and it's still cheaper that a Cane Creek Thudbuster

      I was thinking the same thing when I bought it for my bike. I just couldn’t get used to the rocking up and down. I would like to try the thudbuster, but it’s a lot of money.

    • @mikenewson9506
      @mikenewson9506 3 роки тому

      No I haven't. but I was thinking about that one as it's cheaper than the Thudbuster. It seems to get positive reviews online

    I use it on a time trial bike. The ease with which I can adjust my seating position forward and backward is a great plus for the Rinsten Spring. Because I use the RS mostly in the aero position the damping is not very pronounced. When sitting more upright with my hands in a more traditional position, in the drops or on the hoods, I sit a lot more on the rear of my saddle. In this position the damping is very comfy.
    For reference: I weigh about 86 kg and the RS is mounted on a steel bicycle.
    I also use a Suntour suspension seat post on a aluminium road bike with drop bar, and Cane Creek’s Thudbuster on a aluminium hardtail MTB, all to great satisfaction. The RS is the ugly duckling of them all but I can’t say I like it less than the more sophisticated suspension seatposts. The ease of positioning the saddle is great.

    Currently unavailable on Amazon but was selling for between $69 and $100 with LEDs. on the end. Funnily enough, there's an Amazon paperweight advertised with it which seems apt, considering the comments about this device breaking. This spring looks exorbitantly priced for something that could potentially be life threatening if/when it fails. There are $20 versions on eBay if anyone prefers a cheaper risk. I went for the Suntour SPX 12 suspension seat post as UA-cam /eBay reviews were favourable and prices varied due to British Heart Foundation releasing a load, either batched or individual, at greatly reduced prices. Noticed for $100 you could definitely purchase a Cane Creek seat post possibly New or New other, second hand on eBay. $100 seems a stiff price for a piece of metal bent in 3 places and 2 LEDs added is all.

    • @Rome.
      @Rome. 2 роки тому

      @username Good luck. I ended up returning the Suntour SPX 12 suspension seat post and buying a Cane Creek Thudbuster. Very good seat post but ridiculously expensive considering I had to also purchase larger nuts and bolts to stop the seat from tilting.

  • @Johny40Se7en
    @Johny40Se7en 3 роки тому +2

    That's a great concept and all, but... because of the way it's got to be set up, as in, the seat's got to be angled like that before you even get on it. Then whenever you pedal, the weight shifts around a bit, so naturally it's gonna bounce. Unlike with the coil spring seat variation. Cheers for showing how it works while you were riding it, helps a lot to see how it really functions 👍😉

    I saw this on kick starter - but for the same(ish) price I went for the Suntour NCX hard spring, it did take a bit to get that normal feeling but it does help with huge speed bumps we have over ere in Blighty.

      @Pablo Slalom Hello. Both times I managed to return several miles on a smooth road and peddling very gingerly. I cannot walk that far, so was glad to have made it, albeit the saddle was lop sided with just one in tact rod under me. First time, was easy replacement, just a photo was needed. 2nd time, did not want another replacement, but money back. Got song and dance. The guy did say "We are addressing this issue and by this fall (was several months away) it will be improved, changed, fixed". Too bad I don’t want another, I did like the shock absorption.

    Take 2 and put one inside the other, by flipping it on its head, perfect... Of course, then, the original Rinsten-mount for a single-spring and the same for the saddle-mount, will be too small. But if you overcome that, you´ll have no latteral body-movement anymore. In other words: Rinsten is using it the wrong way, it can be verry goo,d if you understand what it misses.

    I have one. I found it awful. With every stroke it would bounce, and with each bounce it rocks the seat back n forth, if you have a sensitive under carriage to seat adjustment you’ll find it annoying. A bit of up and down bounce would be ok, but that would require more money, and a proper suspension post.

    • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  3 роки тому +3

      I had the same experience. The rocking was just too much for me, and even if I move the seat all the way forward, it was still uncomfortable, so I ended up not using it.

    I see lots of bike saddles with springs built in, which tempts me, but those seats tend to be very heavy. So why would I want to add 12 oz. (340 grams) to a light performance type saddle? BTW, saddles with springs at the rear also rock the same way this thing does since they are sprung at the rear and pivot at the front, but at least they do look kind of cool in a retro way and won't kill you if a spring breaks while you're riding. I'm only even thinking about this whole subject because I'm riding a folding bike that has an odd sized seat tube that they don't make suspension seat posts to fit.

      @hoohoohoblin  4 роки тому +12

      I ended up taking it off. It just hurt my balls too much to ride it. I think a suspension set up where the seat goes up and down but stays level would be more comfortable in this, which rocks back-and-forth, making the nose of the seat go up and down while you’re riding.

  • @reedintoit

    It’s a TERRIBLE idea! Way too much movement in the saddle. You want the transfer of power from you hips to lower legs to the pedals to be firm! You actually have LESS control of your bike especially in downhill situations. In a downhill situation you may need to get off the saddle and get your rear end back and this contraption would force the seat up and actually get in the way. Bad idea!
