- Lewis and Tom B show off an animation made for Shadow Of Israphel: Episode 43 on the Jingle Jam live streams.

So that's why episode #43 never came? Because they invested so much work, time and money into making this animation that they felt they have to finish it before story progresses?
in some ways i feel like, if this is where they wanted to take the story, they might have felt they *couldn't* have progressed onwards without showing it first? from the sound of things, we might have actually followed peculiar's perspective when he woke up and ran out of the cave, which would have been interesting. at the very least, following him animation style until he made it back to other characters/finding the "Heros." this possibly would have explained how he survived and why he needed to find the heros again. it would have given the story another, more "achievable" purpose; preparing against a foe that was more imminent than israphel, but would still lead up to him
I can't remember from where. But Lewis has said part of the reason they had to stop was because the the original server file became corrupted and they lost a ton of work. Most of the original world was built by hand before world edit became a big thing. The amount of time and energy need for SoI was also taking its toll and so when the corruption occurred they were like "fuck it..."

@@roastpork8032 Yeah that is true but part of the corruption was to do with the mods they were using and not being able to continue building in the same way. And in the time it took for the mods to update etc. lots of the guys had started new series and sjin and duncan made their own channels and didn't have as much time to build SOI.

I've said this before, that I'm pretty sure he WANTS to do it. It's his passion project, he likes to create things.
I think he's terrified that whatever he makes will never live up to the hype, as well as it being entirely just passion-driven, Meaning Lewis can only work on it when other people offer to help him with it, which is literally never.
Mmm. It's very much Like Sibelius's unfinished eighth symphony. He was never satisfied with it and therefore it was never released, he was always reluctant to talk about it and eventually it drove him into depression.
@@Alizudo I remember Turps or someone saying that they wouldn't finish Shadow of Israphel because when they did Whale Lords as an experiment it didn't get as many views as they had hoped. I really love SOI, I just wish they had persevered at the time because the ship has sailed. I'm sure they're happier now making Gmod videos every day.

Whale Lords was a clusterfuck of nonsense and random laughs.
SOI was story-driven, with in depth character backstories and action-adventure drama.
Rather than just "testing the waters" with Whale Lords, they should just finish SOI already.

I don't know about other people, but if it makes Lewis feel any better, I'd be more than happy even if it didn't live up to the rest of the series.
And this animation and the story of this episode already is doing that.
Plus, I'm sure the map is recreated by tons of people already, and on top of that Hytale is coming out and probably has all the tools and everything to make SoI better than Minecraft ever did or could.
What do you mean he never got to finish it, he's literally the CEO of Yogscast and he said he's a millionaire before. He can finish it whenever he fucking pleases, bring their channel from the dead, get millions of viewers back and millions of new fans, but he just doesn't want to. I for one don't feel sad. Of course I know there were difficulties and complications, but 6.5 years is way more than enough to make up for it and create part 43.

Kiubier It won't get many views, you might not have moved on but everyone else have. Do you really think it works without simon or anyone else he has worked with on the project. He would need to get a lot of new people and it would be different. Also time change youtube does not favor their content anymore they won't get enough views in order to justify putting a lot of money on it.
@@Mailb0x1 they're 5 year anniversary minecraft got double the views of their usual videos, you think people won't hear about it and watch it? if they brought it back it will be at least 10 million easy because of how huge the series was. Their content right now doesn't make a lot of money and people are unsubbing. Don't get me wrong I love the Yogscast and I still watch their vids every day at 6PM but not only would they make money back from just paying people to do SoI but they would bring their channel back to making subs because that's why 7 million people subbed to them in the first place

Don't let your horses escape the pen yet son, 2013 wasn't the stone age of technology, UA-cam was made in 2006 and popularized in 2007, yet internet forums and the like were around since the 90s and you think 2013 is some sort of animation stone age when Blender existed and had been a thing since '98? I think you're not giving that time period enough credit.
@@bayardkyyako7427 i mean weird to getting a comment from this, but what i was trying to say was that in comparison to what we had at the time where the animations (talking about 3d ones of minecraft), were usually short ones with some "simple" movement and usually no voice over or following a certain narrative, i didn't say that this was like the beginning and everything before youtube is forgotten, but the 2010's specially from the 10 to 15 at least for me was like the golden era of youtube were a lot of big channels were either cancelled or becoming bigger than what they were before, and this animation if it ever get to become completed would had been one of the biggest and better 3d minecraft projects that could had come in that time frame, and what i said is like compare for example Fallen Kingdom to the last chapter of that story in Dragonhearted the difference in quality of not only models but overall animation increase quite a lot from 2012 to 2016.
But anyway thanks to make come back to this video i really like it and make me remember what i like about the yogs, cheers mate.
@@Raidou_ Yeah, i think if they continued they should have had a finished version of this as like an in game cutscene. Fallen Kingdom of course was around to show it was possible, so they could have taken a week or two, then we could have that as the opening and for two episodes its unexplained, until Knight Peculiar comes back and explains everything
Honestly, I'd bet there are animators who grew up with Shadow Of Israphel who would jump on that project without second thought. R.I.P. SoI. You will be missed.

It's pretty clear that Lewis still cares about this story. I'd love to see a way for it to come to an official end, in some capacity. The overall idea of the world and the narrative is good enough for a comic if adapted properly, but I guess part of the charm is that this is just a big dumb Minecraft machinima. Either way, I do hope we get that long awaited conclusion some day.
I would 100% be willing to throw money at this project to help fund it. I know that's not what the issue is, but goddamnit money talks, and I'm ready to fucking scream.
You mention a comic, why doesn't someone get on that? I'm sure someone has already, but if they made it a thing on the Yogs subreddit or something, the occasional pages would be loved by the community and might help light some fires under some asses and get things moving again.

That's actually not such a bad idea. It'd be a lot less work (they only have to come out every month or so) and it would keep a bunch of ppl interested
@@SmokeyEdits in high school I was "working" on a script for a big ol tv series based on SoI (working in quotes cuz you know, high school kid level of writing). I used to get to every class with a big blue folder filled to the cracking point with page after page of an SoI script... but hey...
Hell man, I’d volunteer just to give a hand where I can since I have some writing experience and it isn’t much to act as one of the characters. I wish SoI would come back at some point, but it probably won’t ever finish. Not anymore.

@Sasuke Uchiha True, but Shadow of Israphel is definitely over. Even if it came back it would never be the same as it used to be. They hardly ever play minecraft any more, let alone dedicating a huge series to it like they did with SoI.

Remember they are a business and it wouldn't be profitable for them to bring it back, most of their fan base back then, including me, has grown up and so in a business sense it wouldn't be worth it for them to put so much effort/time/money into bringing it back.

I never thought of Skyhold ever being a working flying fortress, that's just amazing seeing it in the animation too, it would've excelled a lot of expectations back in 2012/13 to see this! Thanks to Lewis for showing it off anyway after so long with only vague/differing answers to why it didn't continue :)

I remember one of the older SoI episodes showing the Skyhold moving in an opening animation

It's a lot more understandable now why it never got finished, that must have costed a lot of money and time just to get it even to that stage. Really sorry that Lewis never got to finish it, he obviously had big aspirations but just never got the chance. It would be cool if they released that unfinished video as episode 43 on the main channel so that everyone could see it. Maybe then people would accept it not being finished.

I'm so glad that we got to see this and that Lewis felt comfortable showing this. Even if SOI doesn't continue I'm so happy that it's not a sore topic and that we got to see where it was going to go. That's enough for me.
choowygamerz It got a somewhat conclusive “ending”. It’s like when someone dies suddenly but is able to say their last words. Honestly I’m quite upset but at least we know they still cared for it and knew that people wanted a part 43. It jus never came because they couldn’t get enough people to work on it.
i love these little behind the scenes looks at the dreams they had for stories they wanted to tell. I wish they could do this more with other abandoned concepts

Look, after the whole "clock man" thing, I'm convinced the internet can do anything. For the uninitiated, the clock man thing was a post on a forum by a guy who was looking for this old unarchived cartoon he saw as a kid in like, the 60s that nobody else had ever seen. Within a couple years (might be the wrong timeframe) someone had found it and it's viewable online right now. So yeah, I'm sure there's someone or a team of someones out there working on it right now.
I think that Minecraft is definitely on the rising in popularity again, and everyone is desperately trying to regain thar nostalgia of what they grew up with. I truly believe if they were to bring SoI back in any capacity, alot of people would watch it and enjoy it. I feel like it wouldnt be terribly hard either with how far Minecraft itself has advanced. It just sucks most the team has lost that spark it had, i feel like Lewis is one of the only ones with it left.

I wish someone with a big animation department who works on machinimation, such as rooster teeth, would pick this up. not to take over, but to help bring lewis’ vision to life. and i’m sure they’d make bank, i know if anyone were to put the show behind a paywall (worst come to worst) id put money out
@@fancyLD minecraft never lost popularity, you just lost interest. There may have been a golden age of minecraft but that's only to us players who remember 2013, new players come every day buying the game because they saw a video.

The song in this is 'Euphemia' from the 'All the Lights in the Sky' album. The intro of Euphemia, which is omitted here, is what the old Yogs outro is based on.

I would donate MONEY for Shadow Of Israphel to come back. Lewis seemed so happy about the show and it was honestly an amazing series. I would do anything in my power to help them make it come back.
@The Xenomorphian Thing with that is... you can do a lot of crazier stuff with minecraft now, so they could probably find a way to have israphel without sjin playing them. Such as hiding the name or doing things with the display name.

So many animators who do Minecraft stuff I'm sure would jump at the chance to revive this. They've left us all blue balled for a decade. Come on!
Christ that would have been very impressive back then, seems strange how much money and time must've gone into that to let it sit gathering dust, real shame what happened.
It’s sorta sweet that they held onto to these files. Like after all these years he knew exactly where they were and that they weren’t lost or disregarded. Like sure they put a lot of money into so they don’t necessarily want to through away their asset but at the same time they knew by this point that they weren’t ever going to be finished or used. So it could of easily been lost and forgotten. But it’s like Lewis has been holding onto them like the passion project it was that meant the world to him.
So Old_Peculier, I mean Knight_Peculier didn't actually die but just had a vision of the future, what a twist! Really such a shame about SoI, I loved that series back in the day. Wearing one of my SoI T-Shirts as I type this.

@@AlexisAlexander646 It's not a matter of people not wanting to do it, it's simply entropy on part of (for example) Duncan and (from the looks of the builds in that series) Sjin, amongst others, and the amount of changes behind the scenes. I think 2019 might hold a new episode, though.

Everyone keeps saying “no 2013 minecraft animation was this advanced” despite Revenge and Fallen Kingdom both coming out in 2011/12 with objectively superior minecraft animation.
I see everyone down her talking about how Lewis wishes to see the story end. Although I’m sure most would love and official end or a video, I wouldn’t mind a book coming out

@@DalekWindmill i agree im seeing this video a year later i know but i find the amount of ‘yogscast members’ to be a bit much for me like i know we have always had a few but at its core for me it was always lewis simon sips duncan and sjin (also hannah when she played) but now i feel i forget names of most of the members because no one really stands out now and with just constant TTT its hard to stay interested in these people honestly when the video are of just lewis and simon shit posting or even just lewis and say one other member pissing around i love the videos because theyre just fresh and you can appreciate the individual members, but atm i just am not a fan of alot of the yogscast memebers as i find them sorta dull compared to the old crew

the guy was probably animating for free and then lost interest in the project, causing the SOI series to not continue causing lewis to do yoglabs causing them to do modded causing them to put soi on the back burner causing the original writers / producers to lose interest, sad but true :(

I remember 10 year old me riding my scooter home and sitting at the PC for HOURS watching their lets play and SOI.. I remember trips to the public library where I made friends with a 17 year old who also had a passion for SOI and the yogs.. He gave me a USB full of all the vids so I "Didnt have to wait" because the public WIFI was so slow. This series was literally my childhood, its what I spent my time thinking about... Ive probably watched the series completely thorough 10 times at least. Im 18 now, and now im teaching my little 10 year old cousin how to play MC. In a few years when hes older, maybe ill educate him on the golden days of MC. Scary how everyone grows up and everything ends. I still hope and pray this series comes back in some capacity.. Even a BOOK would be amazing.
Holy shit I've only just seen this and it's blown me away, I know that there isn't much passion for the series anymore but god if there was ever a kickstarter I can guarantee people would back it, even if it was just for a fan project or to help Lewis hire a bunch of people who'd love to do it with him.

This was amazing two years later. I feel like the main point of this animation wasn't just to show the future but give us an appropriate good bye to Knight Peculiar so they could show his visions and what he felt the future was looking like in his closing moments before death. In the end, he sees himself standing back up and never giving up. It would've been beautiful.

It’s crazy how ambitious this was. You can still see the passion in Lewis’ eyes and hear his excitement. Him explaining little plot points and characters shows that he still cares about this project.
It’s a shame he never got to finish what clearly is one of his most favorite pieces of content.
If this had have been finished, it could possibly have been the best Yogs video ever made.

I actually tried writing a book for the ending back when I was in 8th grade. I was mot a very good writer lol, gave up after a year. Got a hundred pages done but reading them back reminds me of a kids book lol

You know what, I think SOI should be finished off as a novel or comic book or similar. I have no doubt that the Yogscast could raise the money for such a project and I think especially as a comic book you could have a suitable medium to portray it, and I hope that would be a place Lewis could channel his passion if it's still there.

Honestly, after all these years i'm happy with this much. It's some closure at least. Confirmation of where the story was going. I'm really glad Lewis decided to show this finally, so even though 43 will never happen I don't mind so much having seen this.

I wish Lewlew would stop apologising for the 'jankiness'. It's not a finished product but as it stands it's still fucking amazing, and far better than a lot of the trash on YT now.
So from what I understand with what Lewis said, this wasn't meant to be the start of episode 43, but it was coming up soon-ish after, as the start of the next story arc of SoI - so, after the heroes save Webley and get to the X on the map. With Lewis and Simon running around the Oasis looking for animals, this would have been a weird scene to throw into episode 43, so I imagine this would have been a fair few episodes away still (maybe ep. 50). So progress on this animation wasn't what was holding the series back because I assume this would have been finished by the time they needed to use it. Interesting to know...
I really hope that one day the people who grew up watching this series will join the Yogscast and help them bring it back so they can finish it with Simon and Lewis. I really hope so.
Just saying, it really felt like an anime opening....
