- A look at what it takes to install the Cybertruck Basecamp tent, how to deploy it, a look inside, and packing it back up.
The thumb screws I mention for the aeroflap were purchased from Amazon: a.co/d/c2Dk9kt - Авто та транспорт
Thank you for purchasing and installing to show us - saving us the aggravation and bitter disappointment
You look like a douche in that car anyway.
I'm liking this post because I appreciate you posting it, not because I like it.
I'm liking this comment because I appreciate you making it, and because I like it.
I think this "how to" video for Base Camp is the best advertisement for Space Campers that anyone could have done! What an absolute pain to set up for what you actually end up with.
What’s a space camper?
@@nickjunes I think we can't post links on here anymore right? Just Google "space campers" and "Cybertruck" and you'll find their website.
It's an off-road camping company that's making a camper specifically for the Cybertruck. When it's collapsed it looks like a stainless steel camper shell on the back of the truck, but it pops up to make a full sized bed and it's supposed to have RV style accessories including a galley and solar panels that you can put on the roof. It looks like it deploys quickly. Its design doesn't look out of place for the Cybertruck. It just seems like an altogether better solution than this jank-assed tent that takes 45 minutes to set up.
I actually appreciate the fact that it was windy while you were installing it. That’s what camping is really like. Get video!
Thanks for watching! Indeed, camping is not always perfect and the tent was super solid in the wind. Clearly the truck isn't going to be blown away in a wind storm, so I'll take it over staking things to the ground any day.
Great video thank you ! Elon clearly is not a camper, this is “an order of magnitude” more work to set up and take down. Removing the aero flap, not utilizing the onboard air compressor, onboard power and HVAC attaching clamps to and clips to the bodywork, so many lost opportunities here and a total fail form a convenience and features point of view.
Just in case you are not aware Elon didn't design it.
@@Tonay88 No, Elon designs, manufacturers and assembles alone. Not to mention he mined the ore materials with his bare hands. 😂
@@superwedgieand he sleeps with your wife while you change the diaper on your cybertruck because after you got it you longer gave her attention.
Some of you hear will shamelessly swallow anything.
No he didn't design it but by saying Elon, I think we know what he meant.
It doesn't detract from fact that the tent is nonsense
Does he looks like a person who do any physical activities apart from yapping?
I bought this tent after watching this video, now im saving money to buy cybertruck.
Most people aren't that open about their findom fetish but that's cool for you to share!
@@BunnLilah 😂🤣 Your comment was the last thing I expected when I clicked on view reply and its also not too far from the truth. Always the best kinda comedy.
The best thing is that it doesn't make the car any uglier.
There's a sucker born every minute.
I think I like the Model Y camping setup better. You can use the ac/heat of the vehicle to keep tent temperature controlled.
The fact the car cabin and bed cannot be connected to benefit from heat pump is simply unbelievable to me.
Good comprehensive video. Painful to watch, can't imagine setting up taking down in the dark. You have more patience than me, id be sleeping inside the truck.
Thank you so much for this! It’s exactly what I wanted to see.
You are very welcome, @LeahBensonTherapyTampa
Bro thank you so much for taking this bullet for us. Thanks to you now we know we don't need a 103k homeless tent-truck
Thanks u2 for taking time to make this video. “I‘ll take these two thumb screws and screw it back in…you don’t have to film this.” 😂
Proof we aren't professionals at this. 😂I just knew she wouldn't be able to capture what I was doing because my hand covered any shot she would have tried to get. Word is there is an updated aeroflap part which removes the need for any kind of screw, so I've reached out to Tesla to see if I can get the revised part.
Don't reach .. too far.. messages are good 👍
Ready to spend my life savings on this so I can go be cyberhomeless.
yeah buy a 100k truck to be homeless...........
@@alanmay7929you can be homeless with any amount of money

Thank you very much to you and your wife for the vídeo! 👏👏
Thanks for watching!
Great video! It’s exactly what I wanted to see for cybertruck basecamp! Thanks~
I'm not a camper (per Se). I would have thought the pump would be electric since the CT has two 120VAC outlets. Thanks for the video. It seems a little cumbersome, but maybe that's the way 'tent' are. I would need the camper, lol.
Blowing it up would take half the battery 😂 Elon already lied about the range and now this tent looks like it came from wish!
It's not the way tents are, but it is the way any tent car integration by Tesla or any company Elon is a part of will be.
This is awesome! Thank you for the video.
Thanks for this. Just what I needed to see. It's no more fiddly than some tents I've had - would require some thinking to set up the storage space underneath for easy, maybe slide-out storage of various things... stove, fridge etc... esp since you need to be standing in the storage space for setup/takedown.
Tesla sells storage tubs that will fit nicely under the tent.
It seems like the perfect tent for a cozy summer night in the national park called downtown San Francisco
Really do appreciate you sharing this!
Great video, well done. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. I hope it was helpful! :)
Would have been great if Tesla allowed for HVAC solution for the cargo bed
Great to see this Device 👍. I Ordered a CT on 12/2019..🙏
Thanks, when I saw this, it looked kind of cool, but I was worried the execution would be bad. You confirmed that for me. I'll wait for the aftermarket, maybe even come up with something myself. I did buy those thumb screws because I want my cap easily removable in case I need the space. Thanks for the info.
Its really interesting for 3k they didn't include a electric pump. Nice video.
It would kill the range 😂
Really glad I decided to stick with my 2020 Model X 7 seater, the ultimate Tesla car camper! Freezing cold, rain, or 110 degrees hot, I always have a comfy place to camp in ❤
this is what i wanted to see... a cybertruck for camping. thanks for the video
You are welcome! :)
Don't go too far tho it'll need a charge. This thing looks so cheap 😂
I honestly like that this was done on a windy day. Gave a realistic setup and show how sturdy it honestly is.
This was honestly the most realistic setup you can find.
I cant wait to get one! They love blocking that window! Like to see the spare tire kit installed with it.
Cant wait for aftermarket versions. They'll probably improve on the price and the design.
I'm curious how many people purchase these.
Glad it's made, but not for me.
Great! No do it for us while it's raining :) LOL Thanks for this.
I’m in the UK and go Carp fishing, I’m by the Lake for 2/3 days at a time and have an inflatable Bivvy. It’s very similar to this Cybertruck camper design. Takes me about 15-20mins to set up or to pack down. The only piece of advice I would give is to make sure that every little bit of air is removed from the air poles otherwise it won’t pack down properly.
Nice job, very detailed and informative, you've sold me on Tesla Basecamp, btw, no opinions by wife or self, would have been nice to hear
Thanks. I intentionally did not offer my opinion because it’s not meant for everyone. It’s perfect for what we want and are looking for, though. I quite like that it’s always in the truck (although I can easily remove it) and I have zero range loss due to a bulky roof top tent creating drag. Sure, a ground tent is cheaper, but we didn’t want a ground tent. For those that do, to each their own.
Thanks for such an in-depth video! 🏕🌵
Well I guess I will staying at the holiday Inn next door.😢
Nice cyber truck tent demonstration video. However, this tent is only suitable for perfect weather conditions. In hot, sunny summer days, it'll be too hot, and in winter, it'll be too cold. As a camper truck tent, I'm not sure if I want one of these. I'd rather sleep inside the cyber truck, staying cool or warm... 😅
surprised it didn’t come with an electric pump. you have the outlets right there and everything
You got one out of three things correct, setting up in the wind. Now just add rain and make it a dark and moonless night and it would match ALL my camping experiences.
I really wanted this tent to be expertly engineered to fit well with thecybertruck but at this point i dont see much upside over a high quality tent I would throw next to it with an air mattress inside for pennies on the dollar?
Thanks for posting the video. Way too complicated for camping though. I’m gonna wait for the aftermarket slide in versions 😂
Nice video, thanks
Glad you liked it!
Solid. ❤
Thanks so much, been really curious to see this in action. Quick Question do you think you could fit a bike beneath in the cargo area with the tent deployed? Wondering how high that clearance is between the bed and the bottom of the tent when deployed. thanks
It should be possible to fit a bike under the tent, but it would depend on how much you could turn the handlebars to get a bike completely under. There’s enough room under the tent I can climb into the bed under it.
It's a little over 15" of clearance under the tent.
Does the manual say how fast you can drive with the basecamp tent deployed? Probably about 10mph max
Pretty sweet idea well designed and you'd get it up and down in no time with practice but id bet it costs thousands
This looks like a royal PITA to open and close and I thought my soft shell rooftop tent was bad to operate.
Looks nice and techy but it's a pain to setup I'll just go for a very simple ground tent that can be setup in a few seconds
I like it! I just wish it had a heater or something to stay warm.
Fortunately, there are options depending on need. E.g. an electric blanket to stay warm, fans to stay cool, or you can check out what Campstream is doing. They have a solution for other Tesla models as well as Rivian and I am working with them on a solution specifically designed for the Cybertruck.
Thanks for the video. This looks like a lot of steps. But that's the case with any decent sized tent. Kind of makes you appreciate the Cybertlandr if it ever comes out. Would be a game changer.
I'm assuming the foam mattress just slides out? It doesn't look weather proof. What if you fold this thing up wet? Thanks for the video!
The mattress can be removed for washing, yes. Each "section" of the mattress is zippered, making it easy to remove the mattress material to make washing easy.
As for folding it up wet, it's no different than any other tent. If it's wet, you should let it dry before packing up. If that's not an option, you should redeploy once you get home and let it dry.
in the time it takes to set this up you could set up like 4 traditional tents lol. I have an Ikamper RTT and it opens and it set up in less than 30 seconds. This is so ridiculous lol
Thanks for sharing. How comfortable is the pad by itself?
It’s definitely on the firmer side at 1.5 inches of memory foam. Most people will probably want to roll out an additional layer for extra comfort.
That's a nice well thought out package, it looks like a bit of a chore to deploy and store but probably worth the effort.
It’s really not that bad. This was literally the first time setting it up and taking f it down and we were wanting to capture the whole process , so of course, it took longer. It’s maybe 10 minutes to set up and the same for tear down.
Nice!!
I am so ready for amazing third-party options for camping to come. I really like products by Camp King, but maybe these would not work as the drag would kill the range? This is a major bummer for a potential CT purchase.
When you use the car for camping, will you also wipe it clean, everytime it get wet, dirt on, bird shit, insects, dust a.s.o.?
Would water get into the bed from rolling down the roof if this is deployed and that panel is unclipped?
There is a flap that should prevent rain on the roof from entering the bed area, but even then, I think any water would fall into the tonneau cover area first. I'd have to look at it next time I set it up.
It's a bit of a faff, but I suppose once one gets used to it, usage will improve with time. Also, as alluded to in the video, the parts of the tent will slacken off somewhat over time and will likely become easier to use. Whilst I am no fan of the Cybertruck, I do applaud the fact that they have created a seemingly well designed bespoke tent for the vehicle. The one thing that the Cybertruck does excel at is offering the owner something more than just a chunk of metal with wheels and an engine. That something is 'dreams'. Something that other manufacturers need to think more about.
Thank you for your comment. It’s nice to see one from someone whom the tent and vehicle aren’t desirable, but can appreciate why others might like it. And the dreams comment is spot on.
Really nice Andrew! Are you taking your best friend Bobby Lee camping any time soon?❤
Thank you for posting this! I’m surprised you didn’t use an electric pump. Would have been cool to see the awning up but not a big deal, it was pretty windy anyway. This seems like a lot of work but tents are always a hassle, it’ll go quick once you get into a rhythm. I wonder if the range extender will fit under the tent, I think it will. That last bit of packing up I’d be tempted to skip unless I were about to pull the tent out. You can use the inlet of an electric pump to suck the air out and get the tent down quicker.
The tent really isn't bad to set up with the pump they provide. I was going kinda slow with it because I wasn't sure how many pumps it would take to get it to 1psi then 8psi. The awning attaches to the front via zipper and there are a couple of poles in the kit for holding the end of it up, but between the wind and being on my driveway, it just wouldn't have been very fun to set it up.
All in all, it really isn't difficult to set up or tear down. Both processes can easily done in less than 10 minutes once you understand how it all goes up and comes down. The two main pain points in the process were figuring out the tent structure needed to be on top of the bed rails and fighting with keeping the zippers of the bag out of the way when packing it up. The former won't be a problem now that I know where everything needs to be during setup, but the zippers on the bag could be a frequent pain when packing up. No more so than any other tent, though, to be honest.
When it come to deflating, once you remove the four plugs to let the air out, there's no need to attach a pump and deflate it. By the time I got all four plugs out, most of the air was gone and the rest pushed out easily when folding it up. The key there is just making sure you don't have too much of the tent material bunched in one area so it can fold up as compactly as possible.
@@brandonwilliams5927 I wonder if the extended range pack would fit it with the tent as well.
@@Jedi2155 Yes, the Basecamp tent is designed to be compatible with the range extender for those who decide to buy it.
@@brandonwilliams5927 It looks like if you wanted to do a quick trip into the store and come back to your camp you would need to fold it mostly up (like at 23:33) -- which is a bit of a shame. Would've been nice if you could collapse the front that rests on the tailgate for this purpose.
Nice demo. Thanks!
Hand pump is better and only takes a minute - don't want to disturb a quiet campground running a loud pump
I wonder how much water that flat roof part will collect in the rain and wheter it will leak through.
Fully electric truck and it requires a manual air pump??
Great setup + takedown video!
Thanks!
Do you think the tent and range extender battery will work together?
Yup - designed to work together
Brandon, that’s a well made product that you demonstrated on a windy day! I would have one myself if I had a Cybertruck. I love that it stays installed on its brackets and it leaves plenty of space underneath it.
Thanks, @mitchellbarnow1709. Hope you found the video helpful and sorry for the wind noise. :)
Im not a complainer, it proved how stable that tent is, because you are going to have to set it up in all weather conditions. Now we need an HVAC attachment.
@@mitchellbarnow1709 No doubt about that. I'm working with the guys at Campstream on an HVAC solution. If you haven't checked them out, I'd definitely recommend doing so. www.campstreamgear.com/
@@brandonwilliams5927 Yes, they do have awesome solutions!
I still prefer rocking a Shiftpod. which setups up in under 60 seconds.
No this is better it's Tesla 😂 it looks so cheap
Did it come with the pump? Would a small air pump you can plug into the truck work even better?
Yes, the pump came with the kit. I have a small electric pump, but the hose was the wrong diameter to use the adapter to air the tent up. It only takes 8 PSI to inflate the tent, so you'd have to be careful with an electric pump and use one with an auto-stop feature to prevent overinflation.
@@brandonwilliams5927Love that they're including it!
@@user-to2rf1rj5v He showed in the first few minutes that it came with a pump…..
any 3rd party cyber tent?
This is an insane amount of setup and tear down that completely covers everything you’d be storing in the truck bed. Designed by someone who’s never been camping.
Yeah, it looks like a first to market cashgrab of a kit that has not been fully designed or tested. I would not buy this kit, & just wait for something properly designed, & tested to come out. Which I after seeing this, & media reaction should be very soon.
Looks easier than setting up a napier truck tent.
You could pull out a camp fridge from under the base camp tent. Other truck tents need an empty bed for the floor.
This is standard setup time for most good truck camp setups, I’ve used 2 on my father’s f-150 and they were similar in time.
Looks like it would be easy to setup once you’ve done it a few times.
Let's go, Brandon Williams!
8:12 Enter The Exoskeleon. Hadnt seen those clips, going to be so many cool products from 3rd parties and Tesla
Great video. It’s actually pretty impressive. We’ll thought out. Do it a couple of times and no doubt get more proficient at it. But at $3000? Cue the Chinese knock-offs.
its very bad and takes ages to setup, the worst tent of all time.
I’m glad I saw this. I can set up/take down my Seek Outside Redcliff in half the time and have far more space in the truck, without making the truck non-mobile. I was considering this tent, but now it’s a hard pass.
Also, this tent is going to be hard to get dried out and cleaned after a trip with harsh weather.
I will toss in a matrace after folding up the rear seats. I'll fit in there with my dog somehow. The tent option I can't feel that in any way.
😍😍
They do make great products!
Is there no heating/ac passthrough from the cab?
Presumably not. You do get the plug socket that you can probably use to do a heated blanket (maybe 50-60w an hour, not those plug in 2Kw fan heaters that drain the battery).
Tbh this tent looks like it's done by someone who either 1) didn't camp much 2) was forced to comply with a design brief of making the product unnecessarily/impractically / excessively based on the cybertruck (why) vs best tent ever.
This $3000 tent makes Rivian R2 / R3's foldable front seats idea look practical in terms of making a camping bed internally in the car. Good for winter and summer.
cool.
Nice job and thank you.
Where's the grill, fridge, water supply and 110 plugs?
Thanks. All those items are in my Amazon wish list and I hope to start building out a full on camping setup for this thing in the next month or so. Should be ready just in time for summer. :)
🔥
They had those on the Chevrolet Vega in the 70s! Nothing new
I'm lazy cuz that looks like too much work haha. Seems easier just to throw a tent in the back. That wind is brutal too
OK, I expected the cybertruck to have a built-in compressor to fill the basecamp with air
Yeah…..I’m keeping my gazelle pop up ground tent much easier…Thanks for showing me this tent is a waste of money 😂
The design isn't bad. I think for a product developed from nothing it's pretty good..
The cost of the thing is probably to make up for the massive RnD costs.
It would better if there is an option to access the Cybertruck cabin or vice versa without stepping outside. Additionally, an awning as part of the package would have been ideal.
There is an awning for it, I just didn’t set it up due to the wind and being on concrete without a way to anchor the poles. It zippers on to the tent, so very easy to attach.
I’d try to convince myself too this is a good thing after dropping 3k on this 😂😂
The biggest design flaw for me is the fact that you can’t use the truck’s HVAC system. One of the best advantages of having an electric vehicle is the fact that you can let it “turned on” to cool or heat up your sleeping space without worrying about exhaust gases. So camping is a big thing for electric vehicles owners and this is a missed opportunity. Sad. I have the founders edition reservation on the way 😢
Curious. If you didn't know the price (of $3k), what would you have thought this cost?
300 bucks
Yeah that's a $300 option I'd agree.
300 bucks. 500 for Tesla OEM.
Well ues u can get a good one for $300. This one looks like it came from wish
I am a huge Tesla fan but this product just feels like something marketing created. Someone needs to create some roof bars that will level out so you can attach a proper rooftop tent. Imagine if it was dumping rain, you would be soaked. Also, there are plugs back there. How they could manage to not give you an electric pump is such a mess.
You would think for that cost, they would give you an electric air pump to plug into the rear of the bed where the other outlets are.
What's the field report?
We have plans to camp in it this weekend for a couple of nights. If there are any specific questions you’d like to get answered while we’re in the field, we’re happy to try and answer them.
So do you plug your truck into the nearest tree while you’re camping?🤣
THEY need applique PRINT for THE Truck Panels ! 🎉
all that work.. might as well just set up a pop up tent.
It's going to be fun trying to charge your truck in the @r5e end of nowhere.
Thanks for making this I’ll stick with a cheap car and a normal tent. Great truck, but the basecamp is a disappointment.
Alrighty then. I think I will stick with my ground tent.
It's no wedge rooftop tent, thats for sure.
I wonder how the tent handles 40 to 60mph winds.
Can you use an electric heater inside there?
Can you show how well the basecamp fares in rain or snow?
im sure this tents cant be manufactured for any truck.. theres a market out there. its a good idea.
