No smartphones, no social media...and we didn't need them - all who were there will never forget this night for the rest of our lives. We lived in the moment, for that moment...
the most insane night ever , i still rememeber walking the beach all night chatting with strangers around campfires and sleeping on the train home the next morning . amazing night .
I was 18, one of the best days of my life I think looking back. Nothing but fun, laughs, great music, good vibes with my best friends. We drove to Brighton from Essex at 4 am and luckily had a place to crash the night. This vid just makes me grin from ear to ear and I feel so lucky to be able to say "I was there" My dad had Live Aid, I have the BBB2002
And Vinyl…😃
social media has pretty much ruined the friggin' world.
And eckies
This set is the best example of how good life was without social media.
There is nothing social about social media.
I remember the opening song from a cd my friend burned me in the mid 2000s. Something awesome about a getting a new set on a CD for the next drive. Shit was awesome
rubbish.
I cant agree more if you watch recent videos of similar venues its beyond ridiculous. Im so glad there were no smart phones in the nineties
But your watching this on social media…
No phones. No posers. No influencers. No social media.
Listening to this in 2024 ! What a mix!
yeaaah
despite the mechanical/electronic aspect this is truly art and requires a great deal of musical talent
Vibes never get old
The clothing. The fashion. The sunglasses. The hairstyles. This is a time capsule.
The lack of bloody phones!
The lack of bloody phones!
And absence of tattoos.
@@ryszardluty4857 good isn’t it, people actually living in the moment :)
And the ecstasy ! 😬🤣
41 now. I was there. This will never be topped. Goosebumps watching this back.
I am from Brazil. In the year 2004, a TV channel showed this show on New Year's Eve, I was alone at home and I was 12 years old. Since then my life has never been the same, musically speaking. greetings.
🤩
great story
The cultural significance of this is profound. As someone in their mid-20s now trying to experience a fraction of this freedom and innocence, it brings me such joy to simply watch this.
Same bro, i was shoked by how their 20's were beautiful compared to ours like f the tiktok gen bro
It just wasn't put on social media... it was not "free and innocent".
I weep for them! ..... Everyone at this gig were connected in the moment! 🖐️👊❤️💃🕺
@@DamnBig6 I'm sorry you're having a shit time in your 20's mate but honestly it's so easy to experience stuff like this every summer. You just clearly don't go the right events. Hit up the boomtowns, the lost villages, the top tier electronic festivals at the moment are genuinely insane. people will say the same about us one day but it is what you make it
Come to Secret Dreams at Legend Valley in Ohio.. In July. You'll get this. Not the same style of music, but definitely freedom to do whatever you want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone
Im 41, give me a time machine and let me experience such moments again

Im 42..too🎉 my daughter always tell me dhe would like to live those so funny years..!! Unfortunately, those communions of transistic dancer sharing smiles swet and goisebumps together...the ferling of the speakers wrombing basses lifted you from ground ....😂

No fake eyelashes, no botox, no lip fillers, no phones, everybody enjoying themselves...the way it was meant to be😍
Indeed.

I was there. The traffic on the A23 was backed up to Handcross. Me and my workmate took the back roads back to Shoreham. Train to Brighton. Did all the backstreets to the beach to avoid the travelling crowds and had one of the most memorable nights ever!!! The atmosphere was just full blown summer joy!!! There’ll never be a night like it. Walked home on such a massive buzz. Thank fuck for this film!!!!
Yep, remember the traffic was stacked up for miles on the A23 and it was a scorching day. Cars overheating left right and centre, but we somehow made it to Brighton beach!
I was in that traffic in the back of my mates car. Crawled at 10mph the whole way from Crawley to Brighton. Me and the boys were rackin up lines of coke on the parcel shelf and sniffin all the way there 😂
That’s absolutely crazy Ade. I live in crawley and often do the brighton run on my motorbike down the A23 … cannot comprehend that many cars!! Shame I’m too young to have been there, looks like you had a awesome day

I’m from Spain. I was living in Uk at that time and I was so lucky to live that day in Brighton. It was so fucking amazing!
As someone who dj'ed and did a lot of clubbing during this time period, i must say the track selection is impeccable and timeless. You could play this entire set nowadays at a festival/club and it would be amazing!
Can confirm I’ve heard similar vibes at a festival and it was unreal 🥳💃🪩

This was yesterday. Hard to realize 2 decades have passed 😊
Good luck with that.

do they ever say that though?
Such a breath of fresh air to see no phones and people dancing good times
Looks like a terrific groundbreaking approach, I hope it catches on
@@morphyon good one !
Dancing and smoking. Terrible
Because there weren’t many phones back then
@@williambirch-james78 Watching the Brighton Beach docu on Sky, *someone* had a camera phone that they used the night after… although the camera was terrible, mind you, and it probably had like 500mb of storage so there’d be no point filming the thing.
…Which is a crying shame. You can’t get a good vibe of the crowd in 12 different jumpcuts a minute. Are there any good bootlegs from within the crowd out there?
Découvrir cette vidéo en 2024 est juste incroyable !
So proud to say I was there, 16 with my parents (they were old school ravers) A water cooler sized bottle filled with vodka and redbull, nothing but pure love, happiness and dancing with strangers. A memory I’ll never forget.

Amen. Been a trance-house head for 25 years. I miss these days
This is still the way to enjoy a party! Keep it up, friend!! 😁
It was amazing, a great night all round.
You know you can still do this, right?
Just learn to give zero f***s to everyone around you...
literally at 1:08:43. whole camera in the crowd
Full respect to the guy who created this video. Insane set.
back in the days before phones it took more then 1 man 🤭🤫
It was released with the album of I remember so you had this set on CD and the other disc was dvd.
bro there's like 5000 different camera angles... you think one guy made this?
@@BeachLookingGuy He's probably speaking of the man/people who work to edit the clip, not filming all the videos
@andymallon6440 do you no the name of the tune at 27 minuits?
A party I will never ever forget. 2024 and I still keep coming back to this, pumping it after work in the house.
When I look at these kind of parties now, everyone is standing dead still, with their phones in the air. I also watch F1 a lot, on tv and in person when I get the chance and it's the same thing. Litterally every single person in the crowd/grandstand is filming and posting the exact same thing. It makes no sense to me. It's as if they are there only for the content, not to actually enjoy what is happening. Not appreciating the experience they are able to have.
I must admit this smashes most modern music out the window...
It does not, check out Fred again, doing amazing things. This is just party music
@@steve-uu6bbFred Again is ok, but it's nothing new, mate. It's all been done in the 90s,my friend.
This is so iconic. He walks through the crowd to get to the stage, he's waving to people in the crowd, there's a kid with a frisbee at one point. A different era.
57:38 kid with the frisbee
Walking? Waving? FRISBEES? My god, you'd never see that today.
Due to the far higher than expected attendance the local authorities were severely underprepared, which led to many incidents including two deaths, over 170 injuries, and six arrests.

My parents got married on this day, the reception was at a hotel overlooking Brighton beach, I was too young (11) to fully appreciate the magic of it at the time but I remember it being a crazy scene.
If this happened now 90% of the crowd would be watching this live through their smart phones 😂😂
Dude looks, moves and acts like a middle-aged dad at a bbq. I love it.
to be fair to him, he was 39 at the time already :D
Gen X knew what they were doing
21 years. And I continue dancing mentally while I listen. Wonderful set.
Qualidade
Oh yes 👍
FBoy Slim proves it’s not the technique, it’s the playlist. No pride, no chip on the shoulder, just make everyone have fun! I’m 5 years too young for the opportunity to attend this one, but there are no events like these anymore. It’s either a pill or you have no business being there.
There were some gigs reminding me of this one when I was a loose 20 years old lad, with SHM, etc. And it all went away by the time I was 28, and I mean these “everyone can enjoy it” kind of events, like SHM etc. I saw FBS once more in MonteNegro after exit, he totally caved to the pilled up crowd with electro and techno, I almost cried.
These performances were The Rolling Stones of our time, and it was just plain f’n fun, for literally everyone. And right now that’s sold as a bad thing.
I know there are people in the comment section seeing what I’m seeing.
Like I am now at Glastonbury

Proud to say I was there at the tender young age 18.
Me and my best friend travelled over 300 miles by train with a hearty breakfast of vodka and orange.
I hope there was some other stuff in that juice too. I would have been the fluffiest party animal at the beach 😂

There were cellphones, but no camera phones. But there was no reception cause the network was completely overwhelmed.
Too bad.

The internet was a thing since 1995 for the mainstream….

I grew up in Brighton & was 15 years old when I was running around the beach at this epic event. Crazy to think how different the world was in 02. I was in an ESL holiday trip for 3 weeks in Brighton, staying at the university dorm, when this happened and i was thrilled! The English course + the trip was my birthday gift (other than a “sweet 16 party”). My parents almost died when they saw it in the papers in Brazil the next day!

No cell phone in hand, everyone enjoying, good times, the new generations don't know how to have fun like we did at this time.....
I remember this. At the time I had no idea how big it was going to be. I met my friend after work who I fancied and we got the bus in. We met a few other friends in Brighton. I don’t want to be that guy but… it was the time when chaining two records meant something 🤩
And the track selection
Acting as if things like Boilerroom don't exist, plus the fact that Norman is still out there raving.
tbh this mix isn’t all that technically good. Yes, he kept the tempo but he wasn’t blending the tracks at all but this still turned out great because of great track selection

As a amateur DJ, there are still absolute heaps of DJ's who mix live, once you 'make it' though you will see a lot of DJ's just doing A B transitions without mixing. Pour one out to the large vinyl DJ and CDJ community
I bought this DVD at a bookstore in Kansas, USA in 2002. I watched the DVD so many times, the spindle from the player broke the DVD in the center. It still never gets old… ever.
I wish like hell I could have been a part of the mayhem but I’m so grateful it was recorded, and made into a damned fine production! Cheers to everyone involved that made this iconic event happen, and for Norman dumping so much of his own money into it after sponsors backed out! Legends all!

Nice sentiment but there is always war 😢
It is impossible to understate just how different this event would be in 2024, if it were even allowed to go ahead, which it probably wouldn’t! 2002 wasn’t that long ago relatively speaking, but goodness how culture has changed. Look at this crowd: all united in an overwhelmingly human experience; no smart phones; no one worrying about how best to project their image / brand for their social media following; just pure joy and a sense of fun across the board. And look at similar events nowadays: the majority glued to their phones, whether filming themselves or the stage, but certainly not experiencing the joy of just being in the moment.
Obviously times like this cannot be recreated. We’ve crossed the rubicon and there’s no turning back.

In reference to western culture and coming from a westerner, it's hard to comprehend how things have changed. This time capsule brings a lot of thoughts to mind and there is a lot to unpack, such as the lack of police/power enforcement, heterogeneous in fashion/dance styles; I think the most common thought that comes to my mind is how free people appear relative to people being the robots we see today
Not a smartphone in sight, jus the odd huge digital camera, beautiful!
There's something special about every era in time, especially when it comes to music. In ten years I'll look back at shows I went to in the late 2010's and early to mid 2020's with nostalgia and a longing for a time gone by. It'll never be the same again, so just be right here, right now.

I was backpacking around the UK that summer and this turnout was all over the UK news. People knew it was legendary the day after. That massive crowd was not expected.
yep, 60,000 were expected and a quarter of a million showed up lol
overcrowding is usual after free galas
Thanks for officialy posting this fatboy slim. This is possibly one of the biggest livesets that anyone have ever done. With hundred of thousand of people joining together to party through the sunset. This set is officially history in techno culture for years to come
It's house music. Some tech house I suppose.
Techno?
I had moved to Brighton to be with a girl. Living in the city just a few months when this happened. We went to the sea front around 1pm and were right near the front. We could feel how epic this was going to be as the crowds just went on as far as the eye could see. It was one of those beautiful golden sunset days in England, we don't get many. When Norman came out the whole city just erupted in a frenzy. The next morning there were people sleeping in the streets, rubbish billowing down every road. It was party carnage. But oh my it was worth it. This DVD was on in the background of every house party we had for years after. Thank you for the memories. Incredible!
dude that sounds awesome, glad you had such a good time.
The big question is buddy are you still with the girl 🤔🤔
@@adeh503haha nope. It’s Brighton. Life moves fast in the best party town in England.
@@travelwithamate good man, living the dream 👌🇬🇧
great memories, thx for sharing
Modern day DJ's can learn a few things from this set. It's not all about technicality. Read the room. Play good songs. That's Dj'ing
Was just saying this tonight - technically he's not great, but fuck me he knows how to play a crowd!
He's why I got into it back then. Wouldn't have the career, residencies and song releases I've had without Cook and his influence back when i was a teen 100%
Never went but my sister and her friends did. I stayed at home and watched it on the telly. But it's great to watch again. Takes me back, 1998 to 2006 were my best days. Music and the nightclubs were amazing back then. Was lucky enough to be able to DJ from 2003 to 2016. Was hard to keep on with it all when I started a family.
Funny, I grew out of night clubbing 1984, saw the housematins twice back then, great to follow him and all the rest since. Moved to Canada 1990 so first time a view.
I was there, absolutely fantastic! Lost my crew, found another bunch from my home town and spent the night on the beach. Good times!
Back when things were still cool like this.
I was born in 2001. It's crazy this happened in 2002.
Music has changed so drastically over the years but this funky, easy, AWESOME vibe this music brings, combined with the people dancing, no phones and social media is just Incredible. Just having the time of their lives. Nothing compared to the "rave scene" these days. I'm 22 years old and I listen to Björk, Hendrix, Erykah Badu, Billy Cobham and other "vintage" genres. (Especially dnd, jungle, funk..)
I think It's rare to to find people my age listen to this kind of genres. But the most important thing is that we all like music and the vibe that brings us together! No matter what...
Love to y'all
Greets from Germany!
You really think that those you mentioned are “vintage?”
What do you call the music from the 1960s then?
Check out the ‘Earth’ albums on Good looking records. They’re the type of albums that need to be played through in their entirety.
I had Volume 1 & volume 6.

This is really making me miss the days of going into the club, posting up next to the DJ booth, and watching the DJ work their magic and digging through crates for the perfect record for the next track. I certainly appreciate the new technologies that have come since then (first with CDJs and now controllers), but there was something so pure about vinyl sets.
Most of the dj’s I see when I go raving are on vinyls,it is what makes me appreciate the music so much more, seeing the talent, skill, knowledge they have is crazy and there are some very good selectors out there still
2 Turntables +Mixer+ Vinyl = Happy People!
I love the good old Times!
